Warner Bros. Records Avenged Sevenfold have kept a fairly low profile this year but they did find some time to contribute a new track for the latest edition in the ‘Call of Duty’ video game series. The new Avenged Sevenfold tune ‘Carry On’ will be featured in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ due out on Nov. 13. Fans don’t have to wait that long to hear the new song though – listen below. Avenged Sevenfold are no strangers to the ‘Call of Duty’ gaming series, crafting ‘Not Ready to Die’ in 2011 specifically for the game’s ‘Call of the Dead’ expansion pack. While nothing official has been released regarding the writing process for ‘Carry On,’ it sounds like it may have followed the same path, with the game’s story line serving as its inspiration. The speedy rocker starts off with raging guitar riffs courtesy of the dueling prowess of guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance before M. Shadows vocals kick off the epic tune of strength, spirit and power. ‘ Search endlessly, fight ‘til we’re free ,’ Shadows wails out over shredding guitar and pounding drums leading up to a massive guitar solo fit for a royal-as kicking. The vivid imagery that Avenged Sevenfold ceremoniously paint with their music seems to pair perfectly with modern-day video games so it’s no surprise that the ‘Call of Duty’ franchise came calling again. The song certainly provides something for fans to sink their teeth into as the band gets ready to work on a follow-up to 2010′s ‘Nightmare.’ Listen to Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Carry On’

The upcoming disc, ‘Back From the Dead’ will hit the shelves on Nov. 26 and will feature appearances by Rob Zombie / former Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5 and Steven Adler’s former GN’R bandmate Slash . In addition to its namesake drummer, the band Adler is comprised of singer Jacob Bunton (Lynam, Mars Electric), guitarist Lonny Paul (Adler’s Appetite) and bassist Johnny Martin (Chelsea Smiles). Produced by Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, Dokken) and mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour) ‘Back From the Dead’ promises to deliver adrenaline pumping rock tracks, arena rock anthems and powerful, heart-felt ballads. During our recent interview with Steven Adler, he told us why music fans should pay attention to his new band. “They can expect in-your-face rock’ n’ roll; something that the world needs,” he said. “The world hasn’t had a great rock’ n’ roll band since what the Foo Fighters ’95. The world needs a good rock ‘n‘ roll band and we’re just the guys to give it to them.” In a press release, Bunton states, “The process of making this record was incredible. Our musical influences are all over the place and this record is a perfect reflection of everything that we love about Rock ‘n’ Roll.” While Adler adds, “I’m so proud of this record. Metal Blade Records As I Lay Dying have been on the scene for more than a decade now, and they are back with their sixth studio album ‘Awakened.’ In the fickle, ever-changing world of trends and short attention spans, it can be difficult to build a lasting fan base, especially in the metalcore genre. However, AILD has managed to develop a sound that is consistent and recognizable. All the ingredients from past AILD albums are on ‘Awakened’ – a mix of harsh and melodic vocals, catchy hooks, palm-muted guitars and monster breakdowns. But, the band has refined and enhanced those ingredients, resulting in a highly polished product. Eschewing a long intro or interlude, ‘Awakened’ begins with vocalist Tim Lambesis taking a breath, letting out a scream, then yelling ‘Go!’ ‘Cauterize’ gallops along for a bit, then eases back with melodic vocals from bassist Josh Gilbert. It has all the elements expected from a metalcore song, including a big breakdown, but it is executed so flawlessly and has so many catchy moments. Gang vocals are in full force on ‘A Greater Foundation,’ which is bound to get the crowd moving in a live setting. One area that has really improved on ‘Awakened’ is the guitar solos. Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa are showcased on several songs, with effective solos on songs such as “Resilience” and “Whispering Silence.” After working with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) on their last two albums, As I Lay Dying turned to Bill Stevenson (NOFX, Black Flag) for their latest album. The sound on ‘Awakened’ is pristine without being sterile, and doesn’t dilute any of the heaviness or tone down the cranium rattling breakdowns. It’s hard for any band with screaming vocals to break into the mainstream, but AILD has songs that are very accessible. ‘Overcome’ has a memorable chorus and inspirational message along with plenty of punch that’s aggressive without being oppressive. Speaking of vocals, Lambesis steps up his performance on the album. He shows more diversity in terms of tone, emotion and intensity, while Gilbert’s delivers rock-solid clean vocals on the disc. ‘Awakened’ is not breaking new ground when it comes to metalcore music, but if you want an expertly executed, well-written album, As I Lay Dying deliver the goods.
Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong will reportedly seek treatment for substance abuse following his meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. At the show, Armstrong went into an expletive-filled tirade after noticing a clock that had counted down to one minute left in their set. At the time, the band was in the middle of their seventh song, ‘Basket Case,’ when Armstrong stopped mid-lyric to begin his rant over the time constraint. After unleashing a verbal assault on officials seated near the clock, and claiming he wasn’t “Justin f—ing Bieber,” the singer proceeded to smash his guitar, flip off those he thought were responsible, and vow to the crowd that Green Day would return before thanking the audience for dealing with the situation. The statement issued by a Green Day representative to E! News read: Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse. Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances. The incident comes shortly after the band had to cancel a show in Italy after Armstrong was hospitalized for an undisclosed illness. Mike Dirnt would later reveal that the singer was suffering symptoms of “severe dehydration” and had been vomiting prior to the show cancellation. The band’s new album, ‘¡Uno!,’ is due in stores this Tuesday (Sept. 25). The disc is currently streaming at the group’s Facebook page.
