Facebook: Testament Whenever a metal band gets some attention from the mainstream media without having to go on a drunken or drug-fueled rampage, we as fans definitely count it as a win for our beloved subculture. However, it’s even greater when a hilarious dichotomy is created between vanilla news anchors and metal musicians, which is what happened earlier this week (Feb. 21) when Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson of Testament stopped by a Fox news program in Michigan. Skolnick and Peterson are 2/5 of the current all-star Testament lineup, who are currently headlining the ‘ Dark Roots of Thrash ‘ tour. Shortly after filming a concert DVD in Long Island, N.Y., the duel shredders stopped by Fox 17 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to talk thrash with one of the most hilariously nerdy news anchors on the planet. The guitarists remained incredibly light-hearted during the interview, even when challenged with pressing questions such as, “What’s this thrash metal?” and “25 years you’ve been doing this. (Actually it’s 30, but who’s counting?) How do you maintain your music and not, you know, fall, you know, I guess, everything else, making you guys change the way you do your music? How do you keep it the same?” to which Skolnick replied, “It’s not the same,” while Peterson offered a more detailed answer about not allowing yourself to become too commercial. Skolnick offered some interesting insight on their live shows, noting that Testament are still bringing in young fans while keeping the old school thrashers as well. He explained, “Maybe the first time around with the band, it might have not been a show you would bring your family [to]. Now, you’ve got families coming. You’ve got kids who weren’t even born yet when our first album came out showing up with their parents who were fans back in the late ’80s or early ’90s.” Skolnick and Peterson even invited the Fox host to stage dive at tonight’s show, although the anchor politely declined. T-Boy / UMe Little by little, Rob Zombie has been leaking out details about his forthcoming album, ‘ Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor .’ We’ve already got the April 23 release date and the album art , which was delivered via an online puzzle. Now, the full track listing for the disc has been revealed, and the song titles are quite intriguing, to say the least. Zombie had previously announced that ‘Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Super Town’ would be the lead single from the album and that it stood alongside such tracks as ‘Gong Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga,’ ‘Lucifer Rising,’ his band’s cover of Grand Funk Railroad’s ‘We’re an American Band’ and ‘Behold! The Pretty Filthy Creatures.’ Now, the entire track list is out and posted below. The rock icon stated of the new album, “I think for the first time this new album perfectly merges the old days of White Zombie with the future of what I am doing now. I think fans of both will agree this is the perfect combo of both worlds.” Zombie’s tour itinerary is currently empty. However, he is expected to appear at the 2013 Revolver Golden Gods ceremony in May in Los Angeles where he’ll receive the Golden God Award for embodying the spirit of hard rock and metal. Theo Wargo, Getty Images It’s time to start stocking up on extra padding as Suicidal Tendencies have announced their impending return with a brand-new full-length album and a full-on tour to follow. The band will release their ‘Who’s Afraid?’ album on March 26 and you can bet the group’s ninth release is filled with all the energy and fury of its predecessors. Details on the disc are scarce at this point, but it’s likely that the group will incorporate songs from the album into their set lists when they tour in April. Frontman ‘Cyco Miko’ Muir stated last year of their hopes for their new music, “The way we look at it is that next year will be the 30th anniversary of our first record. When we look at a record, we don’t want to have it sound like 2012. We want it to sound awesome 25 years from now, so when a kid who wasn’t even born when we made it listens to it, he’s like, ‘Damn, that’s a cool record!’” The group has dubbed their upcoming trek the ‘Slam City’ tour. It launches April 11 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco and runs through a May 12 finale in San Diego. Suicidal Tendencies revealed that DRI will be joining them for the first part of the run, with Sick of It All taking over as primary support on the back end. Meanwhile, Wake the Dead will serve as the opening act throughout the run and the band is teasing the possibility of another great band who they hope to have on board for the first four shows of the trek. Stay tuned. Universal Heavy metal’s living (as of this post) legends Steel Panther have been making progress on their upcoming third full-length album. Since the release of ‘Balls Out’ in October 2011, Steel Panther presumably have been celebrating the album’s success with mountains of cocaine covered in groupies, but after finally coming down from the binge, the Los Angeles quartet are back in the studio. Steel Panther have been on a roll since their debut release, ‘Feel the Steel,’ in 2009. They’ve captured the hearts and naughty parts of fans worldwide, even gaining enough votes in our 2012 Loudwire Music Awards to be declared Live Act of the Year , beating out legends such as Metallica , Tool and Iron Maiden . The heavy metal re-innovators teased that they’ve started recording a new ralbum on Feb. 12, posting an in-studio picture of a soundboard along with the message, “So it begins…” Steel Panther drummer Stix Zadinia has completed tracking his drums for the yet-untitled record, and according to a series of tweets from Zadinia, rhythm guitars are also done, with bassist Lexxi Foxxx next in line to lay down his parts. NEWSFLASH: Rhythm guitars are DONE for new record. Bass begging tomorrow! This shit is gettin handled!!!!! — Stix Zadinia (@Stixzadinia) February 22, 2013 ? Jeff Gross, Getty Images While Pearl Jam have been taking their time with new music, it appears as though the immediacy of generating new music is starting to ramp up for the band. Guitarist Mike McCready tells Rolling Stone that the group hopes to have their next album out “this year, for sure.” Speaking about the disc’s current status, he told the magazine, “We’re working on demos right now and we’re going to be recording soon. What everybody’s been saying is ‘ halfway done .’ I think that’s true — we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie [Vedder] brings in, so we’ll weed through those too.” McCready’s bandmate, Stone Gossard, recently suggested a “ nine-to-twelve month ” wait until a new album would be ready. The guitarist says he’s reluctant to discuss the album’s direction yet, adding, “What I can say won’t make any sense until you hear it.” However, he did offer, “I would say as a cliché answer, it’s kind of a logical extension of what ‘Backspacer’ was. But I think there’s a little more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.” The band met with producer Brendan O’Brien earlier this year and will resume work with their longtime knob-turner in the coming months. In the downtime though, McCready is free to pursue other passions. The guitarist is traveling to New Orleans to play ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and run a half-marathon in support of former Saints player Steve Gleason, who is battling ALS. Revolver Lord knows that many of the musicians taking part in this year’s Revolver Golden Gods have done their fair share of interviews overs the years, but in the commercial for the 2013 ceremony, they get to experience life from the other side of the microphone in what amounts to the world’s most metal press conference. The awesome and hilarious commercial finds host Chris Jericho concluding a press conference and then taking questions from “the media.” However, the media for this event are some very well known faces, with everyone from Anthrax ‘s Scott Ian to Halestorm ‘s Lzzy Hale throwing questions at the host. The spot offers a who’s who of the hard rock and metal genres, with Ian, Five Finger Death Punch ‘s Jeremy Spencer, Zakk Wylde , John 5 , In This Moment ‘s Maria Brink, Hale and Sebastian Bach all having speaking parts while various other members of Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm and other bands can be seen in the background. The commercial in general offers a humorous look at not only some of the talent playing this year’s ceremony, but also mentions some of the major names like Metallica and Rob Zombie that will be receiving honors. The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards show takes place at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia May 2 and will air on AXS TV, XBOX Live and Facebook . For ticket information, click here .
