Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe has been selective in the amount of interviews he’s done since being released from Czech jail earlier this summer. Blythe was incarcerated for five weeks after being arrested on alleged manslaughter charges stemming from a 2010 concert incident. Now, in a new Q&A, Blythe reveals some incredible details about the incident. Focusing heavily on the initial arrest of Blythe, along with details on being transported to lockdown, Metal Hammer is set to release an in-depth interview within their latest issue. Blythe described the scene of the airport only a few seconds before he was arrested, “It still didn’t sink in that something weird was happening with my band,” describes Blythe, “but as soon as I got to the top of the ramp, the first thing I noticed was four or five really large men with guns and great pig pointy knives, pistols and facemasks. All you could see was their eyes and their mouths and they looked like they were there to apprehend a terrorist.” Blythe continues, “I was in the car with three plain-clothes homicide detectives, and one of them sort of spoke English, but not very well, and he started asking me, ‘So, what do you remember of this incident?’ Very conversationally, I was like, ‘You know, I really don’t know what’s happening right now so I want a lawyer’. When they hand you a piece of paper that says you’re being charged with manslaughter you know you aren’t just going to answer a few questions then walk out the door.” Blythe even shares about being driven to the jail by a metal fan who knew who Blythe was. “One of the guards who drove me was a metalhead. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Anthrax have been on a hot streak after reuniting with singer Joey Belladonna in 2010. The band has since toured around the world, with high-profile slots on the Big Four concerts and the 2012 Mayhem Festival, along with releasing the critically acclaimed 2011 album ‘Worship Music.’ With the current lineup remaining strong, guitarist Scott Ian has declared, “This will be the only version of Anthrax until there is no Anthrax.” Scott Ian recently spoke with the Georgia Straight about the return of Joey Belladonna and his strongest traits as a frontman. “There’s a certain maniacal energy that Joey has onstage,” says Ian, “and that’s his thing. I mean, if I just compare him to our contemporaries in the Big Four, between James [Hetfield] and Dave Mustaine and Tom Araya you’ve got three frontmen that are all attached to the microphone—but Joey’s all over the place onstage. He’s a maniac, and I always felt like that was one of the things that gave us the kick in the ass we needed way back when to be able to break through and make it, so to speak.” Ian also spoke about how if the current lineup ever changes, Anthrax will cease to exist. “I’ve gone on record saying this will be the only version of Anthrax until there is no Anthrax,” claims Ian. “That’s how I feel, absolutely, in my heart. I don’t see why we would do anything different. This band sounds so great; we made a great record. There’s a long history of musicians starring in movies, from Elvis to Meat Loaf to Prince to Miley Cyrus. And now, Iwrestledabearonce are starring in the feature film ‘A Beary Scary Movie,’ which will be released Nov. 6. You can watch a trailer below. ‘A Beary Scary Movie’ is a horror/comedy that tells the tale of a deranged guitarist named Shreddy from legendary hair metal band White Vulture. He comes straight from hell, murdering bands by hacking them to bits. It’s up to the stars of the film, Iwrestledabearonce, to make it out alive. The movie was written and directed by Justin Beasley. In addition to being the feature film debut of Krysta Cameron (vocals), Steven Bradley (guitar), John Ganey (guitar), Mike Martin (bass) and Mike Montgomery (drums), ‘A Beary Scary Movie’ also features the music of Iwrestledabearonce. Other cast members include M. Shawn Crahan (Slipknot), Jake Busey and Jim Babel. Since the movie was filmed, Krysta Cameron took a leave of absence from the band because of her pregnancy. Courtney LaPlante took over vocal duties during this summer’s Warped Tour. But, it now appears the hiatus is permanent. LaPlante has been the vocalist during the band’s current European tour. Facebook: Ill Nino Things are starting to fall into place for Ill Nino ‘s new album, ‘Epidemia.’ Having already announced the title and Oct. 22 release date of the disc, the band has now revealed the full track listing while offering a song sample. Ill Nino continue their musical growth with their sixth full-length record. The Latin rockers have expanded upon their bilingual vocals and hard-hitting tracks with more tribal rhythms and powerful melodies taking hold on this record. Fans can take a listen to a little bit of the new record courtesy of an album trailer that recently surfaced. The used the album’s opener, ‘The Depression,’ to soundtrack the clip, which is featured below. The group spent plenty of time traveling before finishing the disc, with sessions in Hoboken, N.J., Austin, Texas, and Denver, Colo., before wrapping up the album. Having enjoyed a bit of a break between the studio and the recording, they recently picked up near where they left off as their recent tour started in Fort Collins, Colo. The group is currently out on the road through mid-October with Static-X and Emmure . In related news, upstarts Shogun have joined the trek as well. Ill Nino’s drummer Dave Charvarri manages the group and has been in the studio producing the band’s debut disc. Down Records/Independent Label Group Six songs from Down are better than a full album of tunes from many other bands. The title of the band’s new EP, ‘Down IV, Part 1 – The Purple EP,’ is incredibly long for an extended play, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts.The quintet makes efficient use of the space they’re working with and not a second is wasted. The EP is like a high quality, low-calorie meal. It fills you up, sustains you, gives you energy and makes you feel good, but with none of these excess pounds or throwaway fillers. Of course, it leaves you wanting more, because Down are that good, but you’re not starved. You’re satisfied. Singer Philip Anselmo is in as good of shape vocally as he has been in years. His low rumble hasn’t sounded this healthy or this commanding since the Pantera days. ‘Levitation’ roars with a moshable groove and guitar-tistry. It’s eerie and by the time Anselmo shows up to partner up with the equally dominant riffery, you’re consciousness will be elevated to a higher state. ‘Witchtripper’ positions itself as a modern anthem, opening with a short squall of feedback before pounding your skull into a fine dust with its rhythmic roar. Close your eyes for a minute and you’ll swear parts of Anselmo’s delivery sound like a young, robust Ozzy Osbourne . Even with its heft and its girth, the song’s melodic bluster makes it catchier than germs on a packed subway car. Anselmo provides the rumble of thunder over the bottom-feeding riffs on ‘Open Coffins,’ as well. ‘The Curse Is a Lie’ is a doomy, sonic sign of the apocalypse, and it boasts equally swamp-dwelling guitar sludge that was reared deep in the NoLA bayou. The ominous, lower-than-low tones are heavier than the atomic weight of lead. ‘This Work Is Timeless’ is a little faster and a little chunkier than the songs that come before it, but it’s just as thick and heady. ‘Misfortune Teller’ closes the EP and it packs the most potent groove of the bunch, and on an EP laden with potent grooves, that’s really saying something. Overall, Down make no effort to hide their Black Sabbath worship on these six meaty, muscular songs. But this EP is by no mans paying homage. Down soak their riffage in a metallic gumbo found only in NoLA, and it’s uniquely their own. But Down aren’t all bones and braun. This EP is the work of true metal artisans who aren’t afraid to be unpolished and dirty. What’s more metal than that? New Ocean Media Bobaflex are sure to turn a few heads with their standout cover of Simon and Garfunkel ‘s ‘The Sound of Silence,’ and Loudwire is proud to present the exclusive premiere of the new video for the song. In the clip, the band members deal with an obsessed fan with murderous intent on her mind. Singer/guitarist Marty McCoy explains, “The idea for the video came from the song itself. ‘The Sound of Silence’ was written about the assassination of JFK, and how the nation felt as a whole during this tragic event. Today, we as nation experience the same feeling every time the news shows another unmeditated psycho, with a gun shooting innocent people, in places we thought were safe.” The video shows the fan’s growing obsession with the group through her shrine built at home featuring numerous pictures of the band. From there, she turns up at show after show before finally getting the nerve to hop in her car and speed off to find the group members to enact her plan. For Bobaflex, Simon and Garfunkel might not seem like an obvious choice. However, the hard rockers show they are more than capable with the vocal and musical skill to pull off the faithful and harmonic sounds that the original duo had for the first portion of the song before they finally rock-up the track, thus putting their own stamp on a classic. McCoy says, “Picking this song to cover was an easy choice. I had become a little disenfranchised with the way that music was being performed live. It seemed that everybody was using tracks with background vocals, guitars, and keyboards that weren’t really on stage. It had become so common that I wondered if we were missing the boat. Should Bobaflex be using tracks? The answer is … NO!!!! I was watching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction one night and it all became clear. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel took to the stage with an acoustic guitar and one microphone. My mind was forever changed. Those two guys made music that was beautiful and real.
