Maynard James Keenan’s Puscifer to Release ‘Donkey Punch the Night’ EP in Early 2013

Puscifer Entertainment Rock and metal music’s greatest workaholic, Maynard James Keenan , has announced the upcoming release of new Puscifer material. Keenan is famous for his work with Tool and A Perfect Circle , but Puscifer is another beast entirely, mixing electronic elements with bizarre imagery and gorgeous songwriting. Puscifer’s next release, ‘Donkey Punch the Night,’ is set to drop on Feb. 19 and will consist of eight tracks. The EP will showcase the talents of Keenan, singer-songwriter Carina Round , Mat Mitchell, Josh Eustis and A Perfect Circle musicians Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl; the same solid lineup featured throughout the band’s 2011 album, ‘Conditions of My Parole.’ Out of the eight tracks featured on the record, there will be two original songs: ‘Breathe’ and ‘Dear Brother.’ ‘Donkey Punch the Night will also house various remixes, along with covers of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Accept’s ‘Balls to the Wall.’ Keenan spoke about the inclusion of the two covers on the band’s forthcoming EP. “While continuing our tradition of releasing a few new songs at a time,” explained Keenan. “I also had an itch that needed scratching, and that itch was ‘Balls to the Wall.’ Which was followed by an even harder to reach itch known as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’  And scratch them we did.” Check out the full track listing for Puscifer’s ‘Doney Punch the Night’ EP below. Black Sabbath Continue Recording New Album, Reveal Vinyl Box Set Details

Tim Whitby, Getty Images We’re getting closer and closer to a new Black Sabbath album, and the latest update involves bassist Geezer Butler . The band  posted a photo (seen below) of an empty stool and a bass guitar where Butler apparently would be setting up shop for the day. If that wasn’t enough, they spelled it out by saying, “Geezer Butler is all set to record some more bass tracks on the new album today.” Guitarist Tony Iommi recently revealed that while the band does intend on having their next album ready by April, recording is still afoot on the disc. Black Sabbath should be in the home stretch though, as not only do they have a specific time frame for the album release, but they’ve started booking tour dates for 2013 , as well. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath fans will have something to tide them over until the new disc arrives, as the group has announced a Dec. 12 release for their ‘Black Sabbath The Vinyl Collection: 1970-1978. The limited edition box set celebrates the iconic albums of the band’s full original lineup. Included in the box set (seen below) are full reproductions of the original album releases, remastered from the band’s personal archives on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl. In addition, the poster from ‘Masters of Reality’ and photo insert book from ‘Volume 4′ will be part of the set. And fans can relish in having a 7-inch copy of the group’s debut single ‘Evil Woman,’ backed by the non-album b-side ‘Wicked World.’ Also included as part of the box set is a hardback book featuring the original tour programs from the band’s 1970, 1975, 1976 and 1978 treks and a “Back to Black Sabbath” download voucher good for easy download of the full set. Machine Head’s Robb Flynn Releases Video Diary Documenting Successful Hernia Surgery

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Machine Head recently were forced off the road as frontman Robb Flynn could no longer soldier through the pain of his double inguinal hernia. The band left a massive tour with Dethklok, All That Remains and the Black Dahlia Murder so Flynn could undergo emergency surgery. The singer went under the knife yesterday (Nov. 14), filming the process along the way. Robb Flynn’s surgery diary begins with the frontman being driven to the hospital, acting less than enthusiastic about the procedure, but reassured fans, “I’m a little nervous; I going under anesthesia, but I’m stoked to be getting it done. I’ve been putting it off for too damn long.” The rest of the short film includes Flynn giving very specific details and updates throughout the day, while showing off his ballin’ purple hospital socks. As a dazed Flynn woke up from the surgery, he seemed relieved to be done with his hernia burden. “Apparently it went really good,” assured Flynn. “I got a couple of holes in me. I’ve got some IV going, I’ve got some good drugs on me; not feeling a whole lot of pain right now … apparently my double inguinal hernia is fixed.” Flynn went on to thank his bandmates and friends for their support during the process, of course adding that his family jewels were feeling sore. Soundgarden Celebrate Release of ‘King Animal’ With Sold-Out Show in New York City

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire A little more than a year ago, Soundgarden played a show at a venue just outside of New York City that has a capacity of well over 15,000, but for the release of their latest album, ‘ King Animal ,’ the band decided to get a little more intimate. As part of a string of small-venue shows , Soundgarden celebrated the release of ‘King Animal’ at New York City’s Irving Plaza with a sold-out crowd of just over 1,000 screaming fans on Nov. 13. Taking the stage a few minutes after 9 PM, Soundgarden tore into a jamming rendition of ‘Incessant Mace.’ In a set that lasted nearly two and a half hours, the band played songs like 1989′s ‘Gun’ and the Grammy Award-winning ‘Spoonman’ that were sure to please long-time Soundgarden fans. Throughout the night, the band also played several new tracks like ‘Non-State Actor,’ ‘Eyelid’s Mouth’ and their latest single, ‘Been Away Too Long.’ Song after song, Soundgarden rocked Irving Plaza with no signs of slowing down. Only addressing the crowd a handful of times, frontman Chris Cornell was more worried with delivering a memorable performance than chit-chatting with fans. During his first break, Cornell explained to the crowd that this was not just a concert, but it was “kind of a record release party.” During another break, he poured his heart out to the fans and thanked them for allowing Soundgarden to get back together and create new music. The band sounded just as tight as they ever did in the 1990s. From guitarist Kim Thayil’s face-melting shredding to bassist Ben Shepherd’s insane finger-picking, to drummer Matt Cameron’s ferocious style, Soundgarden took every single note they played extremely seriously. This was even more apparent with Cornell’s intense and methodical focus on his beautiful lyrics and dynamic vocals. Albums like ‘King Animal’ and live shows like the gig at Irving Plaza – not to mention their appearance on CBS’ ‘ Live on Letterman ‘ – don’t come around very often. If this is what happens when you take a 16-year-long break, perhaps more bands should follow Soundgarden’s lead. Soundgarden Nov. 13 Set List: ‘Incessant Mace’ ‘Gun’ ‘Jesus Christ Pose’ ‘By Crooked Steps’ ‘Outshined’ ‘Room A Thousand Years Wide’ ‘Spoonman’ ‘Taree’ ‘Been Away Too Long’ ‘Worse Dreams’ ‘My Wave’ ‘Ugly Truth’ ‘Fell On Black Days’ ‘Hunted Down’ ‘Drawing Flies’ ‘Non-State Actor’ ‘Black Saturday’ ‘Blow Up the Outside World’ ‘Eyelid’s Mouth’ ‘Blood on the Valley Floor’ ‘Rowing’ Encore: ‘Slaves and Bulldozers’ Second Encore: ‘Rusty Cage’ Check Out Photos of Soundgarden Performing at Irving Plaza in New York City Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire
