YouTube What better way to celebrate your birthday than with the launch of a new online merch store! That’s exactly what guitar legend Zakk Wylde did for his 46th birthday today (Jan. 14). In the very funny promo video below, directed and edited by Matt Zane and backed by Black Label Society’s ‘Overlord’, Wylde is shown waking up on his birthday cuddled with his signature guitar and surrounded by chips and beer at his Doom Crew Headquarters, where he’s in for a hard day’s work. After working in a pressing plant, Wylde states in the clip, “People always ask me what I’m doing when I’m not playing music, somebody’s got to make the f—ing t-shirts.” Check out the new merch store here , and watch the video below to get a limited-time discount code. Black Label Society are also due to film a new live DVD titled ‘Unblackened’ in March. The shoot will take place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Calif., on March 6. The special show will include BLS songs, plus tunes from Wylde’s solo album and his Pride & Glory project. The band plans to strip the songs down for an acoustic performance that will feature a four-piece string section, pedal steel guitar and special guests on select tracks throughout the set. Zakk Wylde Recording Hurricane Sandy Benefit Song With Members of Sevendust + Candlebox

Ethan Miller (2) / Facebook: Candlebox Several members of the hard rock community are mobilizing to help those in need by recording a benefit track to raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The collective, which consists of Black Label Society ‘s Zakk Wylde and JD Deservio, Sevendust ‘s Morgan Rose , Candlebox ‘s Kevin Martin and New York outfit the Infinite Staircase, will record the as-yet-untitled song with plans to release it as an iTunes exclusive on Jan. 8. The group has already booked studio time this week at Architekt Music, the state of the art recording facility where Sevendust tracked their ‘Black Out the Sun’ disc and where the Infinite Staircase are currently recording, and they’ll use the space for free as engineer Mike Ferretti has agreed to donate services to make the project come to life. All of the musicians involved have close ties to the New York and New Jersey areas, with either family or friends living in the vicinity of the Hurricane Sandy destruction. Black Label Society just finished dates in Canada and South America and they’re currently planning a new DVD titled ‘Unblackened’ that’s expected to be recording next year. Martin has been touring with Candlebox and is currently mulling a second disc from his other project the Gracious Few. Rose and his Sevendust crew will be issuing the new album ‘Black Out the Sun’ in March, and the Infinite Staircase are currently recording their follow-up to 2009′s ‘The Road Less Traveled,’ with Rose producing and playing drums on the album. James Lomenzo + Mark ‘Abba’ Abbattista Share How Metal Aided Their ‘Amazing Race’ Journey

CBS While viewers have yet to see even see the first episode of the new season of ‘The Amazing Race,’ rockers James LoMenzo and Mark ‘Abba’ Abbattista have completed their journey and now get to reflect on it with the rest of America. LoMenzo, a veteran of Megadeth , Black Label Society , and White Lion who is now a member of Hail!, and his partner on the race and Hail! cohort Abbattista are flying the metal flag on this year’s edition and they told TheGauntlet.com how their time on the road actually benefitted them. LoMenzo says, “The weird thing is Mark and I have traveled all over the world with our band Hail! To me, this is in so many ways, even though we have much more going on, much more enjoyable. For one thing, I didn’t have to carry a guitar on my back getting on airplanes. All we had to carry places was a really light backpack. It was just so much fun having to do nothing but compete everyday.” Abbattista added, “Only having one person yelling at me instead of the whole band was great!” LoMenzo admitted there were a few times during the race where their familiarity to metal fans aided their journey, though not as much as they initially thought might happen. “Things are just so frantic and we never really stayed in one place for very long,” explains LoMenzo. “There were some times it came to our advantage. I don’t know if we’ll see it on the show, but it definitely happened.” Though they could not reveal their fate, the bandmates were one of 11 teams competing for a $2 million dollar prize. By the time the season ends, the winning team will have covered over 25,000 miles spanning three continents. The 21st season of ‘The Amazing Race’ begins tonight (Sept. 30) at 8PM ET/PT on CBS.
