October 19th, 2012 Metalkult Metal Blade GWAR front-thing Oderus Urungus is in the upper ranks when it comes to tearing humans apart both physically and orally. When he’s not ripping the limbs off celebrities and disemboweling politicians onstage, Oderus’ favorite pasttime is bashing those he feels are inferior to himself. In this most recent display, Oderus goes after both Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson , while taking the credit for Slipknot ‘s existence. The ‘Twins of Evil’ tour has been a source of controversy as of late, with co-headliners Zombie and Manson taking shots at each other onstage. Oderus Urungus addressed the situation during our recent interview with the intergalactic warmonger, but he went even more in-depth with BrowardPalmBeach.com . “A lot of bands have tried to do what GWAR does,” Oderus begins. ‘But no band has ever taken it as far as GWAR has. No one has ever out-sicked us. You think these Walmart behemoths of the music industry like Marilyn Manson or Rob Zombie are really scary people? That they have any kind of revolutionary agenda? All they care about is making money, and hanging out with their director buddies as they throw gala award ceremonies to circle jerk each other into a frenzy. GWAR is where GWAR should be: In the drawer marked filth.” The hideous space barbarian continues, “There would not be Slipknot without GWAR. I have a direct quote from Rob Zombie about GWAR when he was figuring out what he wanted to do with his career. They asked him, “Hey what do you think of them?” and he said, “The first time I saw GWAR, I thought ‘I want to be that, but I want to make money.’” That to me says a lot about Rob Zombie as an artist. It says that he isn’t one … Rob Zombie is a tired, G-Rated, mishmash of other people’s styles. When I see Slipknot I see lots of pentagrams and cow skulls. Really familiar imagery. What I do like about Slipknot is their music. Their drummer is f—ing amazing. But when I get to Marilyn Manson, he’s a little harder to peg. A little Alice Cooper, a little Bowie, a little Johnny Rotten.” GWAR are currently on tour with Devildriver, Cancer Bats + Legacy of Disorder. October 17th, 2012 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire / Ethan Miller, Getty Images There have been several stories over the past year on the topic of Zakk Wylde filling in for the late Dimebag Darrell should Pantera ever decide to reunite for shows, but singer Phil Anselmo says comments he made to that effect were taken out of context. Anselmo tells Ultimate-Guitar.com , “That whole thing was taken way out of context. All that happened was Zakk and I spoke and what it was about was just a personal issue between he and I that was worked out quickly and easily. We were cozy as kittens after that and we just shot the sh-t. Honestly, the whole Pantera thing did not come up at all. Whoever interviewed me and I f—in’ forget the whole thing but it was taken out of context because we didn’t even talk about Pantera reuniting or anything like that. Matter of fact we talked about relations and mutual friends and just honestly everybody getting along and that’s really all we talked about.” Anselmo was quoted by the Village Voice as saying , “I talked to Zakk about two weeks ago, and he’s very open for it. He’s got an open mind about it. But, truth be told, Vince has got a grudge against me that is really unfounded. And, honestly, I’ve always had a wide-open door when it comes to Vince. If it takes me standin’ there and lettin’ that little guy punch me in the f—in’ face repeatedly, over and over and over, til his hands were tired of hittin’ my rock-hard f—in’ head, as long as we could sit down and talk afterwards, I’m all for it, man.” Earlier this year, drummer Vinnie Paul also stated that should a reunion ever happen, Wylde would be the choice to fill in for his late brother Dimebag. But Vinnie Paul also stressed that he felt it was best to leave the band’s legacy alone. October 5th, 2012 Metalkult Metal Blade We may have mentioned this a few times in some recent posts, but Between the Buried and Me ‘s upcoming album ‘The Parallax II: Future Sequence’ is insanely awesome. The record comes out Tuesday, Oct. 9, and BTBAM fans everywhere have been pulling their hair out waiting for it to drop, so to tide you over for the next few days, the band have posted teasers for every single song on ‘The Parallax II.’ Between the Buried and Me have been gifting their fans with an incredible amount of content from the yet-released album, including guitar demonstrations of ‘Telos’ from both Paul Waggoner and Dustie Waring. ‘Telos’ has been out for a few months now and BTBAM have released a music video for ‘Astral Body,’ but there are 10 more tracks which have yet to see the eternal darkness of space, which give ‘The Parallax II’ a total run time of over 72 minutes. Every track that BTBAM have teased in this new six-minute compilation is fairly well represented, but with every little bit Between the Buried and Me have chosen to tease fans with, there are dozens of licks, melodies, harmonies and nuances still left to be discovered on Oct. 9. Keep the lyric, ‘Goodbye to Everything’ in mind, because it’s a theme that is revisited many times throughout the band’s sonic space odyssey. September 30th, 2012 Metalkult Kevin Winter, Getty Images Slayer have sparingly worked on new music this year, focusing mostly on their touring with the Mayhem Festival, but according to singer Tom Araya, the group is working hard to make sure their twelfth studio album arrives next year. Araya tells Seven Sisters Post , “We are working on a new album, aiming for a 2013 release. We are experimenting with a lot of sounds. What we can tell you is that the new album will be very Slayer.” The vocalist says that even though they are now elder statesmen in the world of metal, it hasn’t mellowed them out any. He adds, “We have maintained our signature intensity, which is the heavy and fast. Age, huh? Slayer has lived up to its signature intense music and crazy lyrics for the last 30 years with every new album that we come out with.” Over the summer, guitarist Kerry King had stated that while it was still early in the process, the fact that fellow guitarist Jeff Hanneman was still recovering from the flesh-eating spider bite had no role in their progression. The guitarist stated that they had secured engineer Greg Fidelman for a 12-day window that yielded two new songs, with several other tracks in various forms of completion, but that it was his hope that the band would block out some time in October to fully attack the record. At present, there are four late October shows in India and Japan, and then nothing on their tour schedule until the Soundwave Festival in February 2013. September 24th, 2012 Metalkult Robert Sebree, Getty Images System of a Down singer and social activist Serj Tankian offers many opinions in a new in-depth interview. Among the topics discussed is the 2012 Presidential Election. In the fascinating interview with American Rock Scene , Tankian went into detail about America’s current political structure. “Here’s the thing, if you want more choices you have to create more choices,” begins Tankian. “We need more parties and that’s been the case for many, many years … We really need a healthy left wing party in this country like the Green Party or — I’m down to start a socialist party because President Obama is not socialist. The republicans are calling him socialist and I’m like, “come on,” the guy made legislation where you have to buy insurance from private entities. That’s not socialism, there’s no public option. Most of his policies are centrist, just to the right of center, sometimes left of center. That’s not socialism, but apparently, America has no idea what socialism is.” Tankian goes on to speak about Republican candidate Mitt Romney. “Mitt Romney’s policies are, well first of all, he’s gone back and forth between so many different policies. First he supported health care in Massachusetts and then he turned a 360 and said, ‘I don’t like it anymore I was wrong. Everything I thought, was wrong, I repudiate.’ He’s just trying to get the right wingers on his side but ultimately they are failed policies of the past. It hasn’t worked for America. It’s left us in debt, it’s left us in wars. And the fact that he actually even said that he doesn’t care about 47 percent of America. I would f—ing toss him off the ticket now. That’s offensive.
