Dave Grohl, James Hetfield + Axl Rose Among Richest Rock Vocalists

Justin Sullivan / Theo Wargo / Jason Merritt, Getty Images Being the frontman of a rock band can provide you with plenty of opportunities, including financial ones. Some rockers have benefitted more than others over the years, and Celebrity Net Worth has compiled a list of the richest rock singers, with Dave Grohl , James Hetfield , and Axl Rose among those doing well. The site compiled their list using publicly available information on salaries, real estate holdings, divorces, and endorsements as well as record sales and royalties. They then worked out a formula that subtracts taxes, manager’s fees, agents’ fees, and lifestyle to come up with their final estimate. As expected, the rockers that have been doing it the longest have amassed the biggest fortunes, with Paul McCartney leading the way at $800 million, followed by Bono at an estimated $600 million. Hard rock fans have to scroll all the way down to No. 11 on the list to find Foo Fighters singer and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who was estimated at earning $225 million. The next highest hard rock vocalist is Metallica ‘s James Hetfield, who reportedly netted $175 million, good enough to place him at No. 17. Following closely behind is Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, who is worth $150 million, which lands him at No. 19. Other hard rock vocalists of note inside the Top 50 include: Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘ Anthony Kiedis at No. 25 with $125 million; Iron Maiden ‘s Bruce Dickinson at No. 28 with $115 million; AC/DC ‘s Brian Johnson at No. 30, tied with Black Sabbath ‘s Ozzy Osbourne with $95 million; Pearl Jam ‘s Eddie Vedder at No. 34 with $80 million; and Soundgarden ‘s Chris Cornell at No. 48 with $60 million. Aside from McCartney and Bono, the rest of the Top 10 includes Jimmy Buffett ($400 million), Elton John ($320 million), Mick Jagger ($305 million), Gene Simmons ($300 million), Sting ($290 million), Phil Collins ($250 million), Dave Matthews ($250 million), and Prince ($250 million). Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Rejoins Queens of the Stone Age for Next Album

Mark Mainz / Jonathan Wood, Getty Images We now know what Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is going to do with at least part of his hiatus , as it’s been revealed that he’s returned to the drumkit to play on the next Queens of the Stone Age album. Queens leader Josh Homme confirmed the news to BBC Radio . For further proof, the band posted a mixing board photo on their Facebook page  (see below) showing the knobs for Homme’s guitar and Grohl’s drums. With the addition of Grohl, that means that longtime drummer Joey Castillo has exited the band . Homme confirmed Castillo’s exit during his appearance on BBC Radio. Incidentally, Castillo joined the group following the 2002 album ‘Songs for the Deaf,’ which featured Grohl on drums. Grohl and Homme have a longtime friendship and musical connection that also included their partnership in the band Them Crooked Vultures . Homme revealed earlier this year that the band had returned to recording after several stops and starts in recent years. The band’s sixth studio album will be the follow-up to their 2007 effort, ‘Era Vulgaris.’ The group had reportedly worked on material dating as far back as 2008, and a supposed 2011 release never came to fruition. Though an official release date has not been announced, a new album is expected in 2013 and the group has already booked appearances at Lollapalooza Brazil and Chile and at the Download Festival . In addition to his upcoming plans with Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl is in the process of wrapping up his ‘ Sound City ‘ documentary, based on the popular Los Angeles recording studio and featuring many top names in rock that have recorded there over the years. Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Daughter Design ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ T-Shirt

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Foo Fighters frontman  Dave Grohl is getting some serious daddy-daughter points by signing on to design a ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ t-shirt with his daughter Violet. Audio Ink reveals that the shirts are aimed at the younger demographic, and the tee designed by the Grohl father-daughter team (shown below) features three of the ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ characters drawn and colored by Violet against a white t-shirt backdrop. You can also make out a faintly drawn character with an emo haircut and devil horns with a halo hovering overhead, which might be the work of Violet’s dad. The shirt is just one of many created by musicians and/or their offspring. Rocker Jack Black created a shirt with his many facial expressions revealed in various colors against a green t-shirt backdrop, while the Tenacious D singer and his son Sam teamed up on a “Brobee” t-shirt with a white backing. The Flaming Lips ‘ Wayne Coyne, Devo ‘s Mark Mothersbaugh, actor Jon Heder and rapper Biz Markie have also created special shirts for the ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ line.
