David Draiman Explains Disturbed Hiatus, Produces New Trivium Album

Ethan Miller, Getty Images David Draiman is an incredibly busy man at the moment. Along with creating the debut album for his new industrial band  Device , the vocalist is currently in the studio with Trivium to help produce the metal band’s next album. Draiman also recently gave an update about the on-hiatus Disturbed , revealing, “The beast certainly is not dead — it’s just sleeping for a little while.” During an interview with Artisan News  (watch below), Draiman spoke about the relationships he shares with his Disturbed bandmates and stresses that personal differences were not a factor in the band’s hiatus. “We’re all on great terms and we continue to have a very, very huge mutual respect and admiration for another; we check in on each other’s families,” Draiman says. “This was not a hiatus that was brought about by bad blood, this was not a hiatus that was brought about by any sort of legality or for me to decide to start a family or any of the rest of the nonsense that gets thrown out there. All the rest of the guys have families and we’ve been touring on the road with them the entire damn time. So one has nothing to do with the other.” Disturbed’s John Moyer is currently lending his talents to Adrenaline Mob, while Draiman reveals that guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren may be working on a side project of their own. As mentioned, when not working on the upcoming debut album from Device, Draiman is also producing the next Trivium record. Draiman’s gig behind the soundboard was revealed by Metal Injection after photos of Draiman in the studio with Trivium were posted by the band. After Metal Injection asked, “Is David Draiman producing your new album?” Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto responded, “Yes sir, we just started pre pro in Austin.” Stay tuned for more news on Disturbed, Device, Trivium and all things David Draiman. Mastodon Writing Music for Summer 2013 ‘Monsters Inc.’ Prequel

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Getty Images Mastodon have the wheels in motion for their follow-up to ‘The Hunter’ album, but at least one of their forthcoming songs (and perhaps more) may have a more child-friendly slant that the rest of their material. That’s because the group is reportedly working on music for the upcoming ‘Monsters Inc.’ prequel, ‘Monsters University.’ The band revealed the news in a Facebook posting (which appears to have since been removed), as reported by Metal Injection . The movie itself is set 10 years prior to the hit Pixar film, which debuted back in 2001. It follows the story of Sulley and Mike as they attend school and plan their future careers. The movie is set for a June 21 release next summer. Mastodon did not elaborate beyond the fact that they were “writing and recording a song for the new ‘Monsters, Inc.’ movie,” but the timing appears to be right as Brent Hinds recently revealed that the group has already started writing and coming up with ideas for their next album. The group has prior experience working in the animation field, penning the track ‘Cut You With a Linoleum Knife’ for the ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.’ You can watch their ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ contribution below. Black Sabbath Making Progress on New Album in Malibu Studio

Dave Hogan, Getty Images It has been a while since we’ve heard anything about the progress of Black Sabbath ‘s upcoming album , but Metal Injection has uncovered some details about the recordings, including a song title. Sabbath are working on the album at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, Calif. As previously reported, 15 songs have been recorded, and now bassist Geezer Butler revealed to SiriusXM’s Jose Mangin that 12 will make the album, with the other three likely being used as bonus tracks for special editions. Ozzy Osbourne  is currently recording vocals with Rick Rubin. Butler is writing all the lyrics, and the two are working to complete the songs in five track increments. They are reportedly working on the first five now. One song title has been confirmed – ‘God Is Dead.’ Guitarist  Tony Iommi completed all 15 guitar tracks during the band’s sessions in England earlier this year. As for Iommi’s health, Ozzy told Mangin that he spoke to Iommi recently and he is in good spirits and recovery is coming along very well from his cancer treatments earlier this year. Drummer  Bill Ward has not been part of the Sabbath reunion because of a contract dispute , and it looks like he won’t be. If the guitar tracks are done, most likely the drum tracks have been finished, as well, although the band has not confirmed that. Snippets of Mangin’s interview with Ozzy and Geezer will begin airing on Ozzy’s Boneyard (SiriusXM channel 38) starting next week. Landmine Marathon’s Grace Perry – Brutal Female Metal Vocalists

Prosthetic Grace Perry is the earthshaking vocalist of Arizona death metal band Landmine Marathon . As an original member of the band since its 2004 inception, Perry has helped the group deliver four studio albums. The depth of her guttural voice and her ability to project her screams, along with a serpentine twist binding her lyrics, has helped bring Landmine Marathon to underground prosperity. Metal Injection may have put it best when they called Grace Perry ‘The Praying Mantis of Metal.’ Her sheen, yet menacing stage presence is incredibly unique, as she will ungrudgingly jump into the pit and get knocked around alongside the toughest men in the room. Landmine Marathon’s latest release is the 2011 full-length ‘Gallows.’ Perry delivers the most booming and well-rounded performance of her career on the album, and we highly recommend it for death metal fans everywhere. Check out Landmine Marathon’s video for ‘Beaten and Left Blind,’ along with a perfect showcase of Grace Perry’s perplexing stage presence in this live performance of ‘Rise With the Tide.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/kat-katz-brutal-female-metal-vocalists” title=”Next Female Vocalist: ‘Trauma Queen'” align=”center”] Landmine Marathon, ‘Beaten and Left Blind’ Landmine Marathon, ‘Rise With the Tide’ (Live)

Testament Guitarist Alex Skolnick Kicks Off ‘Louder Education’ Web Series

David Livingston, Getty Images For many metalheads, Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick is considered one of the greatest of all time. As one of the most talented and sonically diverse guitarists in music today, Skolnick possesses the skills of a master metal, jazz and symphonic artist, which is why he’s the perfect teacher and host for the new series ‘Louder Education.’ Established by Metal Injection and Peavey, ‘Louder Education’ is hosted at Tomato’s House of Rock (T.H.O.R.) in New York City. Along with Skolnick, ‘Louder Education’ is co-hosted by Chris ‘Tomato’ Harfenist and is attended by the T.H.O.R. students, a collective group of young musicians looking to hone their creative abilities. The first episode of ‘Louder Education’ features Charred Walls of the Damned drummer Richard Christy , who also had legendary runs playing with Iced Earth and Death . Additionally, Christy can be heard on the Howard Stern Show as an on-air personality and master prank caller. The drummer shares his life’s story as a musician, including how he was recruited to play for Death, living life on the road + much more. As is if this wasn’t cool enough for the T.H.O.R. students to witness, some of the kids even got the opportunity to jam Death’s classic track ‘Crystal Mountain’ with Richard Christy manning the drums.
