Members of Iron Maiden, Slayer + More Honor John Bonham at 2013 Bonzo Bash

Evening Standard – Hulton Archive, Getty Images Led Zeppelin great John Bonham has long been one of the most revered drummers in rock and roll and for the last couple of years a number of top skinbeaters have gathered for the “Bonzo Bash” to celebrate his musical legacy. The event, which has been held in Los Angeles on the anniversary of Bonham’s birthday in the past, shifted venues this year to take place as part of the NAMM Convention weekend in Anaheim, allowing for more participants to join in. The 2013 Bonzo Bash was held at the Observatory in Anaheim Thursday night (Jan. 24) with a star-studded lineup rocking out for those in attendance. For instance, Adrenaline Mob ‘s Mike Portnoy came out to rock the crowd with the assistance of former Megadeth bassist James Lomenzo on Zeppelin’s ‘How Many More Times.’ Iron Maiden ‘s Nicko McBrain pounded away on a cover of ‘Immigrant Song’ and Slayer ‘s Dave Lombardo provided a more swinging drum sound on Zeppelin’s ‘Down by the Seaside.’ Fan-shot video of all three ‘Bonzo Bash’ performances can be seen below. The evening also featured such top drummers as Steven Adler , Anthrax ‘s Charlie Benante , Testament ‘s Gene Hoglan, Korn ‘s Ray Luzier, Buckcherry ‘s Xavier Muriel, Jane’s Addiction ‘s Stephen Perkins, Poison ‘s Rikki Rockett and more. In addition, fellow musicians like the previously mentioned Lomenzo, Tesla’s Frank Hannon, Great White ‘s Jack Russell , Black Country Communion’s Derek Sherinian, Mr. Big’s Billy Sheehan, Warrant ‘s Robert Mason, Whitesnake’s Doug Aldrich and S.U.N.’s Sass Jordan also joined in the jam. Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello to Perform at 2013 MusiCares Event Honoring Bruce Springsteen

Samir Hussein / Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder and Rage Against the Machine / Nightwatchman guitarist Tom Morello are both scheduled to perform at the 2013 MusiCares benefit gala. The show will be held on Feb. 8 in Los Angeles to honor Bruce Springsteen, who has been named the 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year. The event is held during Grammy Week, and along with Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello, the show will feature Elton John, Patti Smith, Neil Young and many more. The 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute show will be hosted by Comedy Central television personality Jon Stewart. In its 23rd year, the MusiCares Person of the Year gala has celebrated musical icons such as Paul McCartney , Bono and Paul Simon, among others, in the past. According to the official Grammy’s website , “The 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year gala, which will celebrate Springsteen’s exceptional artistic achievements and philanthropic work, will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction … that will offer an exclusive and unparalleled selection of luxury items, VIP experiences and one-of-a-kind celebrity memorabilia for bidding guests.” The MusiCares event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center two days before the 55th annual Grammy Awards, which features  Anthrax , Halestorm , Iron Maiden , Lamb of God , Marilyn Manson and Megadeth as nominees in the  Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance  category. Kid Rock to Play Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Kid Rock ‘s love affair with Detroit will continue this Thanksgiving as the vocalist has signed on to perform at the Lions halftime show to kick off the United Way holiday campaign. The timing is perfect for Rock, whose ‘ Rebel Soul ‘ album will have arrived in stores earlier in the week. Billboard reports that Rock will perform his new song ‘Detroit, Michigan’ at halftime of the Lions game against the Houston Texans. Rock also performed at the halftime event of the 2010 Thanksgiving Day game, rolling out his track ‘Born Free’ for the national audience. Rock says, “It’s great because I’m home for Thanksgiving, number one, and it’s a huge television audience. I get to be in front of the hometown fans and it’s great to have my family down there and then go eat some turkey and watch the next football game. It’s such a tradition.” The singer recalls going with his father and brother every year to catch the Lions Thanksgiving Day game, and he adds, “To be part of it now, musically, is great — especially when you’ve got a record coming out. It’s a win-win.” Rock’s charitable spirit isn’t just limited to the United Way campaign. As in recent years, Rock is giving back to the Detroit community by offering $30 Meijer gift cards to 1200 families in need. The musician is teaming with local radio stations to give away the gift cards.
