Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Richard Fortus to Hold Master Class at University of Central Oklahoma

Ethan Miller, Getty Images While Guns N’ Roses are off the road, guitarist Richard Fortus will help other aspiring musicians learn his chosen trade. The axeman has agreed to host a master class this coming week at the University of Central Oklahoma that will give him a chance to share his skill. Fortus is the latest musician to visit the campus’ ACM@UCO Performance Lab, following in the footsteps of Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Roger Daltrey and Jackson Browne , Black Country Communion ‘s Joe Bonamassa, Flaming Lips instrumentalist Steven Drodz and singer-songwriter Ben Folds among others. The guitarist joined Guns N’ Roses in 2001 and can be heard on the ‘Chinese Democracy’ album. He’s also performed or recorded with Thin Lizzy , the Psychedelic Furs, Fiona Apple and Jesse Malin among others. His master class will take place this Thursday (Feb. 21) at the Academy of Contemporary Music lab at the University of Central Oklahoma in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district (329 E. Dave Grohl to Host SiriusXM ‘Sound City’ Show

Theo Wargo, Getty Images As if he didn’t already have enough to do, Dave Grohl has picked up another new gig: Host for satellite radio provider SiriusXM, where the Foo Fighters frontman will be behind the mic for a limited-run series titled ‘Dave Grohl Presents Sound City.’ As astute readers have probably already guessed, Grohl’s show will tie in with his upcoming ‘Sound City’ documentary , which takes a loving look back at some of the many classic songs and albums recorded at the legendary studio of the same name. If you think devoting a film and radio show to a defunct old studio seems a little excessive, never fear: Grohl has plenty of material to work from, as Sound City played host to a long list of acts that included Fleetwood Mac , Metallica , and Tom Petty (not to mention Nirvana ) before closing its doors. “I’m so proud of the Sound City film and beyond excited for the world to see what I’ve been working on for the past year,” Grohl said in a statement announcing the show. “Even before that, though, I’m grateful to SiriusXM for giving me the opportunity to share all this great music and to let people know what got me excited about Sound City in the first place.” ‘Dave Grohl Presents Sound City’ is scheduled to debut this Thursday (Nov. 29) at 4pm ET on Classic Vinyl, channel 26, with subsequent shows airing on different channels. Kid Rock to Play NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship Race

Rick Diamond, Getty Images Kid Rock will be in action Sunday (Nov. 18) as he performs at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship race and will be a major part of the coverage on ESPN. The vocalist will be part of the pre-race festivities, playing a live set that includes the race-appropriate single ‘Let’s Ride’ along with three other tracks. In addition, Rock will serve as the celebrity pace car driver at the Homestead-Miami Raceway. The pre-race coverage will begin at 1:30PM ET. After all of the pre-race fun, Rock will head into the booth where he’ll answer questions during the first extended caution. ESPN, who are broadcasting the race beginning at 3:00PM ET, will also show the musician some love by playing his music during the telecast as well. Rock has had a strong presence in the world of NASCAR as his music has been part of telecasts throughout the “Chase for the Sprint Cup” season. Homestead-Miami track president Matthew Becherer stated, “The addition of Kid Rock rounds out a stellar lineup of entertainment for Ford Championship Weekend. His music is pure Americana and will be the perfect way to transition to 267 laps of championship racing.” Rock’s new album, ‘ Rebel Soul ,’ arrives in stores this week.
