Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com 30 Seconds to Mars were a surprise name when the lineup for next summer’s Download Festival was revealed, which suggests that the group who played an ungodly amount of shows for their ‘This Is War’ album have returned to work on their next release. Singer Jared Leto told BBC’s Radio 1 that the group got past the fragile nature of their union as they started to burnout toward the end of the last album’s tour support and he feels that are now back on the path to something great. The vocalist explained, “It’s stronger, better and more evolved. It’s a complete transformation for us.” As for that new record, which they’ve managed to keep somewhat quiet, the vocalist adds, “I really think that this could be the best thing that we’ve ever done.” The group has spent time in Asia, Europe and America recording tracks for the forthcoming release. Leto, who also has a solid acting career, has taken advantage of his time off the road to work in another movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter , the actor will portray a “flamboyant cross-dresser with HIV” who helps a Texas electrician (Matthew McConaughey) smuggle alternative drugs into America to help other AIDS patients in ‘The Dallas Buyer’s Club.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/30-seconds-to-mars-the-kill-top-21st-century-hard-rock-songs/” title=”Next: 30 Seconds to Mars – Top 21st Century Hard Rock Songs” align=”center”]
New Ocean Media Evans Blue are enjoying a successful run with their ‘ Graveyard of Empires ‘ album, and are digging deeper into the disc with the latest single ‘Beyond the Stars.’ The song just hit the airwaves, and the band is teaming with Loudwire to bring you the exclusive preview of the lyric video for the track. The lyric video itself is set against the backdrop of the sun emerging from behind a planet while the lyrics to the track grace the screen. The song starts with some in-your-face guitar playing courtesy of Vlad Tanaskovic and Parker Lauzon, while singer Dan Chandler delivers the angst-ridden lyrics, “ Help me surrender my control / searching for the death of my own soul / I bleed but far beneath / my cover keeps the red from leaking .” The weighty lyrical opening leads up to the powerful chorus: “ Keep your silence or reach for life beyond the stars / save your mercy for someone who needs it more / I’m the guilty / All the feelings come crashing down on me / I’m taking you with me. ” The song follows ‘ This Time It’s Different ‘ and ‘ Halo ‘ as singles off the album. The group just completed the second leg of their ‘Graveyard of Empires’ 2012 tour, venturing up and down the East Coast, with a 2013 West Coast trek currently being mapped out. ‘Beyond the Stars’ is currently available on iTunes , as is the ‘Graveyard of Empires’ album . Yesterday, Loudwire delivered an exclusive sneak peek at the new video from Soundgarden for their single ‘Been Away Too Long,’ and today the full video has made its formal premiere (watch above). While the lyrics for ‘Been Away Too Long’ sing out a sentiment that calls to mind Soundgarden’s extended absence, the video travels down a different path. It kicks off with a woman shedding a strait jacket and walking through an abandoned old building. As the building seems to come to life around her the video culminates when she meets the piercing glares of two german shepherds who have her in their sights. Check it out above in its entirety to see what happens next and draw your own conclusions. In addition to the new video, the band is building up the excitement for the release of their new disc ‘King Animal’ on Nov. 13 by announcing a 2013 North American tour. The 20-show run kicks off in late January in Washington, D.C., and takes the band across the U.S. and into Canada before wrapping up on Feb. 13 in Los Angeles, Calif., for two shows at The Wiltern. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Hurricane Sandy has taken monstrous toll on those affected by the massive storm. Much of the U.S. East Coast was hit by Sandy, with perhaps New York and New Jersey gaining the most media attention following the storm’s destruction. An inspirational amount of charity work has been done to help those in need, with Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell being the latest to step up and help. The singer-guitarist has announced plans to play a benefit concert on Monday, Nov. 12, in New York City to raise money for the victims of the disastrous hurricane. Hurricane Sandy destroyed homes, left families without power for well over a week, flooded subway tunnels, completely halted the delivery of gasoline, but most importantly, left dozens of people dead. Chris Cornell will be in New York City with Soundgarden on Nov. 12 to perform on the ‘ Live on Letterman ‘ concert webcast series, but to make the very most out of his visit, Cornell will venture from the ‘Letterman’ stage straight to Bowery Ballroom for the benefit show. All the proceeds from Chris Cornell’s solo benefit will be put towards The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, which directly helps those hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy. Soundgarden will also be performing the next night (Nov. 13) at Irving Plaza in New York City to celebrate that day’s release of ‘King Animal.’ The album is Soundgarden’s first full-length studio disc since the 1996 release ‘Down on the Upside.’ For tickets to Chris Cornell’s solo Hurricane Sandy benefit show, click here . Rick Diamond / Getty Images It’s interesting, but Kid Rock , one of the few remaining mavericks not to bow to the growing behemoth of downloading that is iTunes, has finally given in for the release of his upcoming album, ‘ Rebel Soul .’ So what changed the rocker’s mind? His manager suggests that these are different times and different rules apply in the current musical climate. Lee Trink, who oversees Rock’s career, tells Rolling Stone , “Times are different than they were on the last release. There are fewer record stores available, and there are fans who don’t necessarily want to get in the car and drive to the store. They’ve been accustomed to buying it digitally. He’s proven the point that he was able to have an incredibly successful record without iTunes, [but] that doesn’t mean you can’t reassess the landscape and take a look at people’s buying behaviors.” Rock has adamantly resisted adapting for iTunes over the years, maintaining the artistic ideal of selling a record as a whole piece of work rather than opting for the single track approach of iTunes. With the musician’s decision to finally allow his music to be sold via the digital download site, only big name acts like AC/DC , Tool , and Garth Brooks remain as holdouts. “Now is the right time,” says Trink of Rock’s decision. “Digital will only be a greater and greater proportion in the way recorded music is purchased. At a certain point, there will be a very tiny, tiny proportion of physical goods. You’re going to have to make that decision.” ‘Rebel Soul’ arrives in stores and online Nov. 19 and is currently available for pre-order on iTunes here . The lead single, ‘ Let’s Ride ,’ is already available on the iTunes platform.
