Facebook: System of a Down System of a Down fans have been patient in recent years, with the group spending a lot of time on hiatus pursuing other musical avenues. Though the band has reunited for a series of shows over the past two years, there has been no talk about future albums or dates … until now. System have revealed their first two performances of 2013 , set to take place in August. The band has signed on to play Sweden’s Getaway Rock Festival on Aug. 9 and will also perform at the Frequency Festival in Austria on Aug. 16. Tickets for both events are currently available . At present, it is not known if these shows will lead to an extended run of performances, but the announcement of the two festivals provides a ray of hope. However, expectations should be tempered as the group’s members have other projects in the works for 2013 as well. Singer Serj Tankian released his ‘ Harakiri ‘ solo album last year and also spent time raising funds to perform his ‘ Orca ‘ symphony piece. However, at last check he was still composing a score for the ‘ Morning Star ‘ video game and had music from two side projects — Fuktronic and Jazziz Christ — in the works. Meanwhile, the website of guitarist Daron Malakian ‘s Scars on Broadway band teases that a new EP and album are coming soon. When pressed about new System of a Down music last year, Tankian told Loudwire , “It’s a good question and the answer is the same — we haven’t made plans of recording the new record as of yet. When we do, everyone will know. We haven’t really discussed another record as of now with any of the guys really. It’s just something that when it’s the right time, we’ll do it.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/system-of-a-down-toxicity-top-21st-century-metal-songs/” title=”Next: System of a Down – Top 21st Century Metal Songs” align=”center”]

System of a Down’s Daron Malakian Recording New Scars on Broadway Album by Himself
Frank Micelotta, Getty Images With uncertainty surrounding System of a Down ‘s future recording plans, fans of the band are anxiously awaiting the next offering from Scars on Broadway . Fronted by System singer-guitarist Daron Malakian , Scars on Broadway released one solitary self-titled album in 2008, but according to Malakian, a new Scars effort will likely drop in early 2013. System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan was once a part of Scars on Broadway, having announced his exit from the band in August of this year. Along with his statement of departure, Dolmayan encouraged fans by hyping the upcoming album from the project, “You will definitely hear some Scars on Broadway within the next four or five months … And it’s a good album, by the way.” Although Scars on Broadway consists of a full lineup, Malakian has just revealed that he’s recording the new album completely by himself, playing all instruments, including drums. “It was just this secret, personal thing I wanted to do for myself,” says Malakian. “I didn’t want there to be any hype behind it.” “I could have just recorded music and put it out under my own name,” Malakian tells Revolver magazine. “But I actually want to tour these songs and get behind them. And I was ready to do another Scars On Broadway record. I’ve just been going with the flow, and the flow’s taken me here.” The frontman also discusses how he differentiates possible System material from possible Scars material. “It’s a little tough. Because there are some things that would work for either band. But right now System is just playing live. To get that band back together in the studio means getting four different guys back together, and I don’t know when that will happen. But, let’s just say I do have some ‘rainy day’ songs just in case.” Scars on Broadway are currently in the midst of a North American tour with Deftones . Deftones Unleash ‘Tempest’ as First Official Single Off ‘Koi No Yokan’
Reprise Deftones got fans excited for one of 2012′s most anticipated albums, ‘Koi No Yokan,’ by recently unleashing the awesome track ‘ Leathers .’ Today happens to represent another monument for ‘Koi No Yokan,’ as Deftones have released ‘Tempest’ as the first official single from the album. ‘Tempest’ is purely and undoubtedly Deftones, as singer Chino Moreno begins the track with a drifting vocal line. Deftones constantly balance beauty and aggression in ‘Tempest,’ lending a slightly schizophrenic feel to the song, as the development of ‘Tempest’ takes many spikes and dips. This first single from ‘Koi No Yokan’ maintains the fact that no band on the planet sounds like Deftones. The little nuances that have existed during the band’s career are still firmly in tact with ‘Tempest,’ which heightens our excitement for the Nov. 13 release date for ‘Koi No Yokan.’ Deftones are currently on a North American tour with Scars on Broadway, which features Daron Malakian from System of a Down. The band is giving fans a taste of ‘Koi No Yokan’ by playing both ‘Leathers’ and ‘Rosemary’ live, and have also performed ‘ Roller Derby ‘ recently, which was reportedly the working title for ‘Poltergeist,’ the opening track on ‘Koi No Yokan.’ Check out the new Deftones track ‘Tempest’ in the player below.
