Avenged Sevenfold ‘s ‘Carry On’ has staked its claim on the top spot this week, ousting Shinedown ‘s ‘Enemies’ from the No. 1 position. Elsewhere in the top five, Volbeat ‘s ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ makes a big leap up two spots from No. 4 to No. 2. All That Remains ‘ ‘Stand Up’ holds firm at No. 3, and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ climbs a notch from No. 5 to No. 4 this week. Volbeat’s ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ ties Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow for the rapid riser this week. Both tracks jumped two notches, with ‘Hollow’ moving from No. 16 to No. 14. Rounding out the Top 5 is the aforementioned Shinedown track ‘Enemies,’ which dropped four notches from the top spot. This week also features the debut of two new tracks. No Comments »Shiprocked 2012: Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, Pop Evil – Day 3 Recap + Gallery
December 5th, 2012 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire On day three of the continuous party that is Shiprocked 2012 on the MSC Poesia, rockers and fans alike woke up in the sunny Nassau, Bahamas. Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon was excited to go snorkeling in the morning while Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. enjoyed an escape to Atlantis. Lit frontman A.J. Popoff took an even more romantic route as he took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend on the trip. Others took the time in the Bahamas to catch up on some much needed sleep after the continuous nights of drinking and moshing but when 6PM rolled around, everyone made sure they got their butt on board in time to catch Five Finger Death Punch ’s second performance of the cruise. Five Finger Death Punch put on a kickass set outside on the Deck Stage and had fans belting out songs so loud that the sound must have infiltrated the two boring ships we were docked alongside, as well as the natives and tourists of the Bahamas on land. Frontman Ivan Moody demanded a mosh pit and he definitely got one during the song ‘White Knuckles.’ The band’s ability to evoke various emotions in fans with their very personal stage presence is quite a sight to see. Godsmack put on one hell of a second show as well in the boat’s main indoor venue, the Carlo Felice Theater. Their first performance which kicked off the cruise was an acoustic set but this one was filled with powerful riffs and wild drum patterns that we all know when we hear Godsmack’s music. Other performances of the night included Pop Evil and Helmet’s first sets of the cruise. Filter was supposed to hit the Deck Stage at midnight but it was rescheduled due to some serious rainfall and gusty winds as the ship stayed docked in the Bahamas throughout the night. Late night drinking, in the rain, in the Bahamas, who could complain? December 3rd, 2012 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Rock fans from all different lands traveled far and wide to set sail on the MSC Poesia for the most hard-rocking adventure at sea that is ShipRocked 2012. The boat and about 2,000 rock enthusiasts sailed from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Tuesday Nov. 27, and luckily Loudwire was on-hand to witness the adventure. As rockers waited in line to board the ship bands such as Pop Evil rolled though as did Five Finger Death Punch , who gave high fives to fans along the way. Sevendust also joined the party as they walked through security with fans. The coolest cruise of the year kicked off with an acoustic set by none other than Godsmack. The gig sounded impeccable and was even more enjoyable with some minor guitar tuning mistakes occurred. Not only was it Godsmack’s first time playing Shiprocked, frontman Sully Erna’s admitted that this was also his first cruise ever. A special appearance was made by Samantha ShipRocked (a two foot Barbie doll with blonde hair and a red frilly skirt even too short for a doll) who sat on the side of the stage during Godsmack’s performance. Samantha is said to be a ShipRocked veteran since she made her presence known last year, as well. Overall, the very raw and intimate setting was truly captivating – Godsmack, outside, at night, performing acoustically, on a ship, how could things get any better? 10 Years gave an explosive performance on the Deck Stage as well as they had fans singing their new track ‘Backlash,’ ‘Russian Roulette,’ ‘Shoot It Out’ and many others. Singer Jesse Hasek sounded flawless as they band’s vigor made anyone who didn’t know who 10 Years were fully aware of their presence. Not to mention, he cut his leg while climbing on top of a stack of speakers – battle wounds already on the first day. Carlo Felice Theater is an elegant venue, on the ship, that holds a little over 1,000 people with a lovely purple décor and comfortable seats – Five Finger Death Punch ripped it to shreds. Their rabid fans had the ship rocking, literally, as they bounced through FFDP anthems which could be heard throughout the 15 decks of the boat. Concerts went into the wee hours of the morning as Sevendust rocked fans at midnight. Frontman Lajon Witherspoon got all up in fans faces as did bassist Vinnie Hornsby who provided the much needed comic relief onstage due to some technical difficulties. It was a tough night for guitarist John Connolly who was having some major trouble with his guitar cable. Clearly and understandably frustrated he continued to play but he and his brothers onstage showed why this band has been a force for well over 15 years – with or without the broke-ass guitar cable, Sevendust sounded damn good. Other performances for day one of Shiprocked included In This Moment , Pop Evil and The Letter Black. All of the acts perform twice over the course of the four days so fans are lucky enough to catch them later in the trip if they missed it (or twice if they didn’t). One only knows it’s far too easy to miss a set while they were drinking it up at one of the many bars and lounges, losing or winning money in the casino, hitting the gym, getting a massage at the spa, in the pool or getting lost on one of the 15 floors on this grand spectacle called the MSC Poesia. November 15th, 2012 Metalkult Facebook: Sevendust Sevendust have titled their upcoming album ‘Black Out the Sun,’ according to a recent interview with guitarist Clint Lowery. The band’s upcoming ninth studio album is tentatively slated to drop in April 2013. ‘Black Out the Sun’ was recorded with engineer Mike Ferretti at Architekt Studios in New Jersey. In an interview with Source of the Sound With Wendy Campbell , guitarist Clint Lowery talked about the upcoming record by saying, “It’s a lot of what we do — it’s heavy and it’s got its melodic element in it.” He goes on to say “So if you’re a Sevendust fan, it’s more along the lines of the second and third records we did — it’s kind of like that. It’s got a couple of throwback vibes to it. ‘Animosity’ and ‘Home,’ if I can put those two records together, it would [sound similar to the new CD].” In the same interview, Lowery also stated that the band was in talks of a possible trek with Coal Chamber and Lacuna Coil in early 2013. In Loudwire’s interview with drummer Morgan Rose , he talked about the upcoming disc by saying “I know I’m gonna scream like a banshee on the next record, I don’t know how many more we got left in us – from now on it’s gotta be treated like it’s the last one in my book. I know it’s gonna be real heavy.” ‘Black Out the Sun’ will be the band’s follow-up to their 2010 album ‘Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow.’ Sevendust will be playing Shiprocked 2012 along with Godsmack , Korn , Finger Death Punch and more. November 8th, 2012 Metalkult Razor & Tie All That Remains are a polarizing band. Frontman Phil Labonte isn’t afraid to speak his mind , and as the group’s success has increased, so have the haters. ‘A War You Cannot Win’ will have those critics complaining louder than ever, but the album should draw legions of new fans that will embrace ATR’s style. That style combines elements of metalcore, mainstream metal and hard rock, and ‘A War You Cannot Win’ is probably the band’s most melodic effort. That doesn’t mean there aren’t songs that pack a wallop. The proceedings start aggressively with ‘Down Thru The Ages,’ with Labonte using harsh vocals and a few higher-pitched screams. Clean vocals make their appearance as well, along with a searing guitar solo. Speaking of guitars, the dual attack of Oli Herbert and Mike Martin is impressive throughout. From darker riffs on songs like ‘A Call To All Non-Believers’ to shredding eighties styles solos, they are on point. When it comes to radio-friendly accessible songs, ‘A War You Cannot Win’ has a few. If you listen to rock radio, you have heard ‘Stand Up,’ an extremely catchy track. ‘Asking Too Much’ is another future radio hit, very melodic and memorable. The power ballad ‘What If I Was Nothing’ has a Five Finger Death Punch vibe and is an obvious choice for a single. Those that buy the album after only hearing the radio singles might be turned off by the harsh vocals, but the balance of those styles is what makes All That Remains who they are. The music might be formulaic, but they execute that formula so well it’s hard to hold it against them. By the last third of the album, there are a few misses. Jason Costa’s drum work gets some nice exposure on ‘Sing for Liberty,’ yet the track itself doesn’t stand out among the rest. They rebound with ‘Not Fading,’ but some momentum is lost with the nondescript acoustic instrumental ‘Calculating Loneliness.’ The tempo cranks back up along with a breakdown or two for the title track, which closes out the album. ‘A War You Cannot Win’ is packed with catchy singles and a polished production from Killswitch Engage’s Adam D. that will appeal to the mainstream. There’s also an ample supply of aggression and heaviness to satisfy metalheads. The combination should make it a very successful album.

The ship sets sail Nov. 27 from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and makes stops in Key West, Fla., and Nassau, Bahamas, before returning on Dec. 1. When we spoke to Filter frontman Richard Patrick and guitarist Jonathan Radtke, they talked to us about last year’s rocking cruise, during which they shared the boat with some elderly vacationers, and also expressed their excitement for this year’s ShipRocked trip. Describe the Shiprocked experience last year? Richard Patrick: It’s like you’re on a ship and every time you go out – boom you’re hanging with the fans, as soon as you step out of your cabin you have to know that people on the boat are fans so there’s not a lot of privacy but it’s a lot of fun. Everybody is super respectful. To us it’s like this fun paid vacation where we get to rock ‘n’ roll so it’s not even a big deal, everything is completely taken care of and you’re hanging out with people that just adore you, how hard is that. Jonathan Radtke: And you get to hang out with bands that you’re friends with, we’re really close with the Buckcherry guys. What are you looking forward to most for this year with Shiprocked? JR: Well I think they’re going to a new location this year, the Bahamas. RP: And it’s the entire ship. I feel so bad for the people last year. JR: Half of the ship last year were paying customers who weren’t affiliated with ShipRocked, that were just going to Cozumel where we were going. So when they saw the boat was literally being overtaken by rock people – I remember this old couple, literally as the boat was still in port and the boat was about to take off and I don’t know if they were aware of it and you literally see thousands of people with tattoos and drinking. The first band was Hellyeah or something like that or Hinder and this poor old couple had their hands on their ears like “What is going on?!” RP: “Oh my God is this what we’re in for?!” JR: So apparently this year the entire boat is reserved for ShipRocked, which is even better. RP: They’re going to build scaffolding like a real stage and this whole thing because you’re playing in all these little arenas and these little places and we’re playing and the f—ing speakers are swaying. I remember playing and feeling like I was going to sprain my ankles, it’s a good time. The bands are amazing Five Finger Death Punch, Sevendust – I got a picture of me and Lajon [Witherspoon] just hanging on the beach from last year. No motion sickness for you guys last year? RP: I was telling you earlier about my problems with roller coasters but I was fine on the boat last year. You know what is really interesting though, if you’re too wasted and you’re belligerent they will leave you there. JR: Yeah because you do get off the boat at certain stops and do activities and stuff and there were a couple of people we heard stories about – that a couple guys had a little too much and weren’t allowed back on the boat, they pissed off the ferderales and got in trouble. RP: Dude you’re stuck in Mexico – and a lot of these people it’s just something they did and you don’t know if they had the money to get back and they’re so wasted. All of the shows are held on the boat itself, do you rock out on the sandy beaches at all? JR : Yeah all of the shows are on the boat, each band does like two shows. RP: There’s music going on all over the place, there’s different levels of bands, there’s some weird clubs they have on this things. They have all of these little different departments of strange, there’s night clubs and casinos. There’s not a dull moment – it’s a lot of hanging out, sunbathing, swimming during the day and then as soon as you eat dinner, you start playing. It starts at 4pm and just goes all night long, people are playing ‘til like two in the morning. JR: Us and Buckcherry, we did our theater show and went on at like 1 am – I remember taking a nap and waking up at 11:30 pm. RP: Dude I remember waking up and the people next door were like, “Who is that Steven Tyler?” [Laughs] I’m in there warming up and they’re like “I think it’s Steven Tyler.” Those poor old people. They had this one guy teaching them how to dance and he was Italian. I felt so bad because he looked over and there was this dark cloud of heavy metal and rock fans. November 5th, 2012 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire After announcing his participation in the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon a couple of months ago, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has been forced to pull out of the Nov. 11 race as the result of an unspecified injury. Back in August, Erna expressed his enthusiasm about the marathon by writing on his Facebook page: “Started officially training 2 weeks ago for the 26.2 mile Rock N Roll Marathon in San Antonio, Nov. 11th 2012! Hoping to get sponsors and fans to help support me and raise money for children’s hospitals around the country.” Now, a new post on Godsmack’s official site reports, “Unfortunately because of an injury, Sully has chosen to back out of the San Antonio Marathon on Nov 11. He plans on continuing his training as soon as he is feeling better and appreciates all the fan support thus far. Fortunately, there will be other marathons in the near future and he looks forward to participating in one of them. He may have to take a little break for now, but he WILL be back in action very soon!” While the injury was not specified, Erna did have knee surgery within the past year and was seen playing shows with a knee brace. However, he tweeted, “Knee is holding up great so far!” earlier this year. Godsmack are set to play this year’s ShipRocked Cruise with a massive lineup that includes Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, P.O.D., Sevendust and many others.
