Kid Rock Slams ‘Hater’ Palm Beach Music Critic After Poor Review

Leon Halip, Getty Images Everyone’s a critic, but some are a little more harsh than others. Still, that doesn’t mean an artist has to sit back and take it and Kid Rock had a few notes after receiving a fairly poor review of his Palm Beach show Dec. 30. The review, which ran in the Broward-Palm Beach New Times , began with sub-heading “Better Than: ‘Jock James: Volume 5′ before launching into a particularly harsh review that opened with, “It has been said that a jack-of-all-trades is a master of none. However, while someone like Dave Grohl feeds his children by disproving the aforementioned statement, Kid Rock has managed to spin a career out of what boils down to on-stage vivisections of the term.” While the writer offered up some objectivity, stating that Rock high-energy performance was professional and that his band consisted of top caliber players, he also commented, “Kid Rock’s songs simply are not very good.” He added, “The curious thing is that, despite it being fairly common knowledge that Kid Rock totally sucks, there was a full audience — with a minimum ticket price in the range of $60.” In response, Rock provided his own critique of the poor review. In a posting at his website , he called the critic “the biggest hater, jackass, miserable p—- critic on Earth.” He went on to add, “He is such a miserable p—- it makes me laugh to read how much he or she hates me, but has to admit everyone had a blast! He probably really enjoys Radiohead shows!! Haha. I bet if you ask anyone who was at the show, a good time was had by all!” Rock also added, “Happy New Year to all, and yes, ‘Let’s get s— faced!’ (I know this critic fails to believe that’s what most folks do on New Years!! IDIOT!). Hahaha. He is exactly the type of a–hole me and Sean Penn were making fun of in ‘ Americans .’” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/kid-rock-2013-rebel-soul-u-s-tour-dates-openers-buckcherry-hellbound-glory/” title=”Next: Kid Rock Announces 2013 ‘Rebel Soul’ Tour” align=”center”]

Metal Blade The Vans Warped Tour — it’s not just for skater punks and emo kids anymore. In recent years, the traveling festival has increasingly added some harder rocking bands and the Black Dahlia Murder have just been announced as participants in the 2013 trek. As they’ve done in recent years, organizers for the festival are announcing a new batch of bands weekly until revealing the full lineup sometime next spring. The announcements are only a couple of weeks in at this point, but already the Black Dahlia Murder will join I See Stars , Like Moths to Flames and Stick to Your Guns as some of the hardest rocking acts the festival has seen. Black Dahlia Murder vocalist Trevor Strnad says of their participation: “We in the Black Dahlia Murder look forward to seeing you and your friend’s fancy haircuts this summer at the Van’s Warped Tour. I think it’s safe to say that all of us in TBDM have attended this tour at various points and have fond memories of this great American punk rock freak show. This time, we shall be the freaks … the sore thumb poking at your eyeball. We are proud to be the fastest, craziest, and most evil band that has ever played Warped Tour … hundreds of bands will enter, one band will leave. Us. Filter Psyched for ShipRocked 2012 Cruise

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Filter are one of the acts performing and taking part in various activities on the  ShipRocked 2012  cruise, along with bands such as Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, Korn and many others. The ship sets sail Nov. 27 from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and makes stops in Key West, Fla., and Nassau, Bahamas, before returning on Dec. 1. For information on reservations, the itinerary, the performances and much more, check out  GetShipRocked.com . When we spoke to Filter frontman Richard Patrick and guitarist Jonathan Radtke, they talked to us about last year’s rocking cruise, during which they shared the boat with some elderly vacationers, and also expressed their excitement for this year’s ShipRocked trip. Describe the Shiprocked experience last year? Richard Patrick: It’s like you’re on a ship and every time you go out – boom you’re hanging with the fans, as soon as you step out of your cabin you have to know that people on the boat are fans so there’s not a lot of privacy but it’s a lot of fun. Everybody is super respectful. To us it’s like this fun paid vacation where we get to rock ‘n’ roll so it’s not even a big deal, everything is completely taken care of and you’re hanging out with people that just adore you, how hard is that. Jonathan Radtke: And you get to hang out with bands that you’re friends with, we’re really close with the Buckcherry guys. What are you looking forward to most for this year with Shiprocked? JR: Well I think they’re going to a new location this year, the Bahamas. RP: And it’s the entire ship. I feel so bad for the people last year. JR: Half of the ship last year were paying customers who weren’t affiliated with ShipRocked, that were just going to Cozumel where we were going. So when they saw the boat was literally being overtaken by rock people – I remember this old couple, literally as the boat was still in port and the boat was about to take off and I don’t know if they were aware of it and you literally see thousands of people with tattoos and drinking. The first band was Hellyeah or something like that or Hinder and this poor old couple had their hands on their ears like “What is going on?!” RP: “Oh my God is this what we’re in for?!” JR: So apparently this year the entire boat is reserved for ShipRocked, which is even better. RP: They’re going to build scaffolding like a real stage and this whole thing because you’re playing in all these little arenas and these little places and we’re playing and the f—ing speakers are swaying. I remember playing and feeling like I was going to sprain my ankles, it’s a good time. The bands are amazing Five Finger Death Punch, Sevendust – I got a picture of me and Lajon [Witherspoon] just hanging on the beach from last year. No motion sickness for you guys last year? RP: I was telling you earlier about my problems with roller coasters but I was fine on the boat last year. You know what is really interesting though, if you’re too wasted and you’re belligerent they will leave you there. JR: Yeah because you do get off the boat at certain stops and do activities and stuff and there were a couple of people we heard stories about – that a couple guys had a little too much and weren’t allowed back on the boat, they pissed off the ferderales and got in trouble. RP: Dude you’re stuck in Mexico – and a lot of these people it’s just something they did and you don’t know if they had the money to get back and they’re so wasted. All of the shows are held on the boat itself, do you rock out on the sandy beaches at all? JR : Yeah all of the shows are on the boat, each band does like two shows. RP: There’s music going on all over the place, there’s different levels of bands, there’s some weird clubs they have on this things. They have all of these little different departments of strange, there’s night clubs and casinos. There’s not a dull moment – it’s a lot of hanging out, sunbathing, swimming during the day and then as soon as you eat dinner, you start playing. It starts at 4pm and just goes all night long, people are playing ‘til like two in the morning. JR: Us and Buckcherry, we did our theater show and went on at like 1 am – I remember taking a nap and waking up at 11:30 pm. RP: Dude I remember waking up and the people next door were like, “Who is that Steven Tyler?” [Laughs] I’m in there warming up and they’re like “I think it’s Steven Tyler.” Those poor old people. They had this one guy teaching them how to dance and he was Italian. I felt so bad because he looked over and there was this dark cloud of heavy metal and rock fans. Sister Sin Singer Liv Jagrell Talks New Album ‘Now and Forever,’ Swedish Music Scene + More

Victory Records Swedish metal band Sister Sin are gearing up for the release of their new album ‘Now and Forever.’ The band is also set to invade the United States by supporting Doro on a string of dates next year. When we recently had the opportunity to chat with Sister Sin singer Liv Jagrell, she spoke candidly about the new album ‘Now and Forever’ ( available here ) and how the band has fought tooth and nail to make it in the music business for almost a decade. In addition, Jagrell dished on women in metal today, as well as why she thinks so much good music keeps coming out of Sweden. Check out our exclusive interview with Liv Jagrell of Sister Sin below: What does the album title ‘Now and Forever’ mean to you? The title ‘Now and Forever’ is kind of a statement for us as a band. As a band and as individuals we have been through quite a lot of things, a lot of troubles and things that might break up bands but we’re so dedicated to this band. So that’s the title – we are here now and hopefully forever. We won’t give up even if something goes wrong – it’s tough to be in the music business today. Sister Sin have been a strong unit for a decade, for you what keeps the band going, secret to your longevity? Yes it’s been almost a decade at least for me and Dave [Sunberg] the drummer because we started the band from the beginning and yeah it’s kind of a decade now – that’s a long time. It’s really hard today with the business, there’s so many bands, so much competition out there, no money whatsoever and all the things with downloads – I mean it could be could but also bad, depending on how you look at it. When I started to play music at 15, the music business and scene was totally different and you could actually make money from it. When I was 15, I just decided, “I’m going to play music my whole life and I’m going to be a rock star” — that kind of attitude. So I spent all 15 years to convince myself that that’s the only thing I will ever, ever do so that’s why I can’t give up because I programmed my brain to believe that I will do this forever. I think that’s why we don’t give up and why sometimes other bands do – they find other opportunities and other things they love too, they have something else you actually can do and you’ll probably do that because that will make you money and a better living. If you just prepare your whole life to be in the music business and tell yourself “This is what I’m going to do, I’m not going to do anything else” it’s kind of foolish and childish but in that way you just can’t give up. People of course give up and I’m not saying I’m not going to do it years from now but right now I still feel like I have to fight for that dream that I had as a teenager. Obviously we all have gained a lot and experienced so much but we’re still a little bit far away that whole kind of – living with the music or for the music thing – close but still far away. [Laughs] I think that’s what drives us. What have you learned being in a band for almost 10 years that you didn’t know at the start of the journey? I’ve learned very much. [Laughs] I’ve learned that I love to be on tour and I love to be onstage and I only feel that I am myself. I’m one hundred percent Liv when I’m onstage. I feel that’s the only time I’m just me. I’ve also learned that I thought it would be ten times easier and I thought it would be not as hard as it is. Of course I want people to fight and live for their dream but they have to understand that the dream comes with a lot of sacrifice and I don’t think people understand really how much being in a band, how much sacrifice comes with being in a band. If you can do the sacrifice then you should be in a band because when you’re onstage, when you tour, when you record your songs it’s the best thing in the world, absolutely the best feeling in the world. What is your opinion on the way women in heavy metal are viewed today? Today is very much better than when I started, I’m very happy that I can see the progress. There are more women, more girls feel that they can take a spot in the metal scene – I didn’t really feel that when I started. There was this all girl Swedish band called Strange Stockholm and when I saw them I was like “If they can do it, I can do it too.” Before that I had Courtney Love but that’s not metal but I thought Courtney Love was really cool – she played the guitar and she was just a very outstanding person. Strange Stockholm was metal and it was an awakening that I could do this if I really want to – so for me that was the big thing when I discovered them and after that I just tried to push my way into the metal scene. I think it’s easier today, I hope it’s easier today – in Stockholm today we have a lot of female-fronted bands or all girl bands. I hope the girls today feel like they have people to look up to and I hope I can be one of them. I discovered Doro later, maybe 22 so when I was 15 I didn’t know much girls in metal. You did a cover of a Motorhead tune, what is another band you would like to cover that you haven’t yet. There are so many, I so love Twisted Sister. I really wanted to cover a Twisted Sister song but not their most known songs maybe some of the least known but a Twisted Sister song that would be really fun to do. Sometimes it’s better to think outside a little bit and not choose the very normal suggestion, people tell us all the time “You should do a Motley Crue cover or you should do a Judas Priest” but that’s kind of too easy. Sometimes it’s fun to find those diamonds somewhere in a song that people don’t know so much with a band – maybe that’s not even metal but you can make it your own. Many talented bands have come out of your home country of Sweden like In Flames, Opeth, Arch Enemy just to name a few. What do you think it is about all of this music coming out of Sweden that has such a broad appeal to people internationally? I think it could be two things, the first is that Sweden has always been a very good country when it comes to music – from when we’re a child we have opportunites to get into music school for free or for a very small fee at least when I grew up, I know it’s kind of changing now because we have another political power right now. When I grew up they would try to get kids into artistic things like music or theater stuff like that, it was that or sports. So you either get good at sports or music or art and drama so that’s why I think many people are very good musicians from Sweden because we learn from a very early age to do all of these kinds of things. The other thing is that Sweden is very cold, you can’t just be on the beach the whole day and surf or do many things outside, other than a couple of months, in December you have to be inside because it’s too cold here. So again if you want to do something at home – you go and play music or you go and do sports so I think that could be a reason why a lot of people in Sweden are dedicated and they have this kind of music coming out. There’s nothing else to do here, people tend to be drawn to being together and playing music. Jack Osbourne Reveals Detailed Account of Aiding a Drowning Woman in Hawaii

? Ethan Miller, Getty Images Jack Osbourne ’s honeymoon in Hawaii recently turned into a rescue mission when he and his friend were called upon to help a woman who was drowning. Osbourne recently opened up about the incident on his Facebook page, filling in all the details. “On Oct. 8, I was approached by a family member telling me he had just seen a woman being pulled out of the water who’d drowned. I grabbed my friend Tyler who was a former Army operator and went to see if we could be of assistance,” Jack starts off. “In case you are not aware, I was a police reserve for 5 years and have had a lot of training in CPR and as a first responder. I am not an EMT or paramedic, but I have assisted in resuscitating individuals in the past.” That training would come in handy as Osbourne and his friend descended on the woman needing help. “When Tyler and I arrived on the scene, the woman was not conscious and had approximately five people assisting in an attempt to resuscitate her,” Osbourne explained. “A neurosurgeon from Japan had taken charge in trying to manage the chaos though she did not speak much English. The woman had a J-tube in her airway, and the defibrillator had already been used. Two women were assisting in chest compressions, and another was operating the Ambu bag.” From there the woman was transported from the beach on a spine board on a cart and Osbourne, his friend, and another good Samaritan rode with her to the front of the hotel and continued administering CPR along the way. The EMTs arrived minutes later and Osbourne delivered the woman into their capable hands. In response to what Osbourne referred to as some “oddly hostile and rather rude” comments made about him regarding the situation, Osbourne made it clear that he wasn’t claiming to be a hero of any kind, just helping someone in need. “As soon as the EMT’s arrived, I backed away and let them take over,” Osbourne recounts. “I never said I was the sole contributor in the rescue. In fact, I haven’t said anything at all. The last thing I want to do is take all of the credit when in fact there were a few people who helped save her life.” The good news is, the woman seems to be on the mend. “From what I’ve heard, she’s doing better and is now awake. I hope she has a speedy recovery,” Osbourne concluded. Osbourne’s full statement regarding the situation can be read on his Facebook page here .
