Megadeth Announce June Release for Upcoming Album ‘Super Collider’

Photo Credit: Travis Shinn Big news for Megadeth fans! The thrash legends have unveiled the title of their upcoming 14th studio album, along with the new record label it will come out on and the month of release. Megadeth’s 14th full-length will be titled ‘Super Collider’ and will hit stores in June of this year. Additionally, after releasing three albums with Roadrunner Records (‘United Abominations,’ ‘Endgame,’ + ‘TH1RT3EN’), Megadeth will unleash ‘Super Collider’ on frontman Dave Mustaine ‘s own label, Tradecraft, which will be powered by Universal. “It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal,” says Mustaine. “It seems like every time you see a great band or music video?, it comes from a Universal label … Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home? for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all. Mustaine continues, “We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, ‘Super Collider.’ If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.” Mustaine adds that the split with Roadrunner was amicable, with the band simply having honored their contract with the label. “We completed our contract with them, which not a lot of many metal bands have the luxury to have been able to complete contracts. They usually either break up or quit or give up and stuff like that, but we were honorable and finished our contract with them and we moved on. And we’ve actually got a fantastic relationship with a brand new label. We have eleven songs already recorded. We wanna give them thirteen, ’cause, you know, the B-sides and Japanese releases and all that kind of crazy stuff.” Stay tuned for more updates on ‘Super Collider’ and get ready for the album to drop in June! Megadeth Ask Fans to Suggest Guest Vocalist for Upcoming Album Track

Kevin Winter, Getty Images One of the reasons Megadeth has lasted as long as it has is Dave Mustaine ‘s commitment to evolving the band’s sound. And it looks like Mustaine has another trick up his sleeve. In a new Facebook posting , the vocalist asks his followers, “Any ideas for a guest singer on a track? I have a few ideas, but wanna know what you think.” The timing of the posting is a bit of a head-scratcher as Megadeth recently completed recording on their new album and are currently in the mixing process, so it’s not known if the idea of having a guest vocalist on a song is meant for a future recording or something that might turn up on their next album. In the short amount of time the posting has been up, Mustaine has already received over 3,000 comments from fans with suggestions such as Anthrax ‘s Joey Belladonna , Metallica ‘s James Hetfield and Down ‘s Phil Anselmo among those frequently mentioned. Megadeth have been holed up in the Vic’s Garage studio in San Marcos, California over the last few months with producer Johnny K overseeing the effort. Bassist David Ellefson recently stated , “Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave [Mustaine] today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met — fast, rippin’ and fully bringing the REAL old-school Megadeth sound!!!” An official release has not been revealed, but it’s safe to say that Megadeth’s new album is on target for a 2013 street date. Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine ‘Pumped’ as Band Begins Mixing New Album

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Megadeth are inching closer to a new record. In their latest online update, singer Dave Mustaine provides the news that mixing has begun on their forthcoming release. Though the band has yet to reveal any key details like an album title, artwork, track listing or release date, they have been diligent in keeping fans up to date on the progress of their new disc. The group has been working on their fourteenth collection at Vic’s Garage studio in San Marcos, California. Mustaine revealed in his brief posting , “Played guitar, sang and did some minor adjustments yesterday to songs one-four. Mixing has begun and you’ll have something soon to hear! I’m so pumped.” Mustaine’s posting follows another entry from bassist David Ellefson , who commented earlier last week , “Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave [Mustaine] today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met — fast, rippin’ and fully bringing the REAL old-school Megadeth sound!!!” The group has been working with producer Johnny K on the effort and expects to release it via a new record label later this year. Footage of the band in recording sessions can be seen below. For members of the band’s Cyber Army fan club, drummer Shawn Drover will be dropping in for a chat this Thursday night (Feb. 7) at 7PM ET. Dave Mustaine on New Megadeth Album: ‘We’re Almost Done With It’

Facebook: Megadeth Megadeth are hitting the home stretch on their latest album. In a picture posting on the band’s Facebook page , it was revealed that Dave Mustaine and drummer Shawn Drover were finishing up tracking on the ten songs for their upcoming album, with another song set to wrap things up that evening. The photo (seen above) shows Mustaine and Drover in the studio together. With the album near completion, Mustaine offered a few more details in a video interview with VintageRock.com at the NAMM Convention. The singer-guitarist said of the upcoming disc, “We’re almost done with it. We’ve been doing it with [producer] Johnny K, doing it down in San Diego where I live. And he’s gonna be mixing it out in Chicago at his studio out there. You know, it’s really incredible this way … Last night, Dave Ellefson — he’ll probably not appreciate me telling this story — but he was sitting in a chair and his hand was hanging over the side of the chair, and I said, ‘What’s the matter? ‘ and he goes, like, ‘Man, I haven’t played this much in a long time.’ And I was like, ‘Good.’ So that was really exciting for me, cause David, he’s a monster on bass guitar, and for him to be saying stuff like that and just showing that he’s a little tired because there’s so much activity with the songs, I think the fans are really gonna respond to that.” Mustaine also stated that touring is starting to take shape as well. The band has already signed on for some dates with Iron Maiden in Europe and a number of headlining shows in the U.K. this summer, with a North American trek expected to follow. He also revealed that the ‘Gigantour’ touring brand may be revived for their late year performances. “We’ve got some really interesting lineups for that,” says Mustaine. “Most people would look at the lineup and they would think, like, ‘Dave’s not gonna tolerate your crap at all,’ because there’s a couple of people that we have that are on the lineup — and we’re hoping for the best — but they’re notorious bad boys. But when people grow up, they kind of grow up, they just don’t grown old, and we’re hoping that the music is gonna be the most important thing so that the fans will get what they want.” Mustaine also revealed that the band has chosen a new record label after parting ways with Roadrunner Records, but did not specify which label. Dave Mustaine-Designed Jackson Y2KV Guitar Auctioned for $11K

eBay There are definitely some avid Dave Mustaine fans out there and one of them just shelled out just over $11,000 to own an ultra rare prototype Jackson Y2KV guitar that was specifically created for the Megadeth leader. Mustaine signed off on the design and it was delivered to him on Dec. 23, 1998. The guitarist was proud enough of the instrument to pose with it on the cover of Guitar magazine in 1999. The magazine photo, along with the original guitar order form and snapshots of the instrument, can be viewed at the eBay auction site here . This was the first guitar with the final 3+3 Y2KV head and was branded with the Jackson logo on the headstock. It features dot inlays, a rosewood fingerboard, alternate knobs and a blade switch. While the body shape wasn’t quite finalized, this was the first approved prototype by Mustaine, used as a reference for the final prototype. The guitar comes with Seymour Duncan JB-TB bridge and JB SH-4 neck pickups and well as a Tune-o-Matic string through body bridge and Schaller tuners. The Megadeth frontman designed the guitar as his vision of a less-aggressive, retro-looking flying V, which was a bit of a contrast to his usual King V that he was playing at the time. The guitar was primarily used during the support of the ‘Risk’ and ‘The World Needs a Hero’ records. The winning bidder, who submitted an $11,300 bid, will also receive a signed certificate of authenticity in return for their payment. Dave Mustaine Lands on Anderson Cooper’s ‘RidicuList’ for Spat With Men’s Wearhouse

Mark Metcalfe, Getty Images / Men’s Wearhouse In part three of the Dave Mustaine vs. Men’s Wearhouse saga, the Megadeth guitarist scored a mention on a big-time news program. On Jan. 8, the tale of Mustaine’s public statement about how Men’s Wearhouse messed up a delivery made it all the way to CNN program ‘Anderson Cooper 360′ and the show’s ‘RidicuList’ segment. It was on a cold winter’s day that Dave Mustaine, filled with Christmas spirit, purchased a thoughtful present for Megadeth tour manager Jim Carroccio in the form of a gift certificate to Men’s Wearhouse. Unfortunately, the gift certificate wasn’t delivered on time, resulting in an amusing yet serious rant from the mind of Dave Mustaine posted on Megadeth’s Facebook page. Men’s Wearhouse apologized to Mustaine for the mishap, and CNN  jumped in to cover the entire story. CNN host Anderson Cooper gave props to Mustaine for his hard work, legacy as one of thrash metal’s most important artists and even showcased a clip of Mustaine explaining the music theory behind the diminished fifth chord, also known as the “Devil’s Tritone.” Although Mustaine was given said respect, Anderson Cooper offered the witty line, “We are all old. You know that you’re old when one of the founding members of Metallica is upset about a customer service issue with a Men’s Wearhouse in Salt Lake City.” According to Cooper, Men’s Wearhouse did not respond to CNN inquiries about the debacle, leaving the host to playfully state, “Maybe they only like to tweet pioneers of thrash speed metal.” Funnily enough, Mustaine recently blasted CNN for claiming he still had a feud going with Metallica. This is actually the second time Dave Mustaine has been featured on ‘The RidicuList,’ so after you check out the CNN piece on the Mustaine vs. Men’s battle in the video below, click here for Mustaine’s first time on the list. Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Rants on Chemtrails + Accuses CNN of Not Getting Facts Right

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has once again taken to his computer keyboard to share his beliefs with all who will listen. The subjects of Mustaine’s many posts via social media platforms have been both diverse and controversial, and this time, Mustaine has been talking to his fans about “chemtrails.” The theory of chemtrails is a belief that our world is being sprayed with various chemicals via aircraft for unknown reasons. However, one theory is that these chemtrails are being used to affect our climate. We’ve all seen the white trails that airplanes can leave behind while in-flight; these lines have been dubbed called “contrails” by aircraft specialists. It is universally agreed within the scientific community that contrails are most often made of water, triggered by the water vapor in the exhaust of an aircraft engine. Despite scientific consensus, there is still a contingent of people that believe these aircrafts are spraying chemicals such as aluminum oxide and barium salts into our atmosphere. Mustaine addressed his chemtrails belief in a set of tweets on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, respectively: Shame on the pilots spraying the grid lines in the once beautiful skies of San Diego. Shame, shame, shame! — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 5, 2013 It’s aluminum oxides & barium salts. They know what their cargo is. Only a fool or an accomplice would argue the unarguable. #chemtrails — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 6, 2013 Mustaine also recently used his Twitter page to blast an CNN article posted on Jan. 4, detailing the Megadeth frontman’s tiff with Men’s Wearhouse . The CNN writer ended his piece by stating, “Mustaine still holds a grudge against the more successful Metallica .” The shredder tweeted: Get yer facts right @ cnn ! I don’t still have a grudge w/Metallica, but I do w/you now. Guess ya missed the Big 4 tour? twitter.com/DaveMustaine/s… — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 7, 2013 Do you think Mustaine’s opinions on chemtrails have merit or are they based in an unfounded conspiracy theory?
