David Draiman’s Device: First Single ‘Vilify’ Leaks

Facebook – Device In this day and age in the music industry, it’s hard for bands to keep songs under wraps before their official release. Disturbed singer David Draiman ‘s new band Device are no exception, with the first single ‘Vilify’ off their self-titled debut hitting YouTube today (Feb. 17). Listen below. Draiman himself acknowledged the leak via a Twitter post, even including the YouTube link for his fans to hear the song. “It’s out there, so I might as well share it,” tweeted the singer in his usual all caps. As for the song itself, ‘Vilify’ features the rapid-fire vocals Draiman has delivered with Disturbed for more than a decade. Musically, the aggressive tune boasts industrial rock and electronic elements, as Draiman has indicated when he began talking about the direction of Device’s music. Lyrically, Draiman sings of a relationship gone bad, with a chorus that declares, “When you vilify / You begin to nullify / Everything that we’ve ever done / You’re f—ing with my head.” All told, Disturbed fans will likely embrace ‘Vilify,’ as it incorporates Draiman’s trademark vocals while adding a fresh sound to his repertoire. The leak of the song should only increase anticipation for Device’s self-titled debut album. The disc drops April 9 and features such guest musicians as Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler, System of a Down’s Serj Tankian,  Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows and Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, among others. ‘Vilify’ officially hits radio on Tuesday, Feb. 19, but, with Draiman’s permission, you can listen to the song below and let us know what you think of the tune in our comments section. Robot Band Compressorhead Bring the ‘Metal’ With Motorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’

YouTube Lemmy Kilmister may be an ageless wonder, but the Motorhead frontman need not worry about his band’s music surviving for the long haul. That’s because the robot band known as Compressorhead does a pretty nifty job of taking on the Motorhead classic ‘Ace of Spades.’ The mechanical outfit is not only quite adept at playing the hard-driving song, but one of the robots, guitarist Fingers, has the headbanging action down pat as well. However, watching Compressorhead play gives you newfound respect for Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee, as it’s noticeable that the robot drummer Stickboy has a few more appendages to pull off what Dee normally does behind the kit. Compressorhead take their “metal” roots to heart, also covering such songs as AC/DC ‘s ‘TNT’ and Pantera ‘s ‘ Becoming ‘ as part of their repertoire. Drummer Stickboy previously performed at the 2008 Big Day Out festival in Australia and will return with the full robot group to be part of the 2013 Big Day Out bill . Lenny Kravitz To Play Marvin Gaye in New Biopic

Carlos Alvarez, Getty Images Who better to play out the trials and tribulations of an R&B legend on the big screen than another musician, right? At least that’s what the creators of the upcoming biopic on Marvin Gaye seemed to have in mind when they cast rocker Lenny Kravitz for the iconic part. Over the past few years Kravitz has quietly added ‘actor’ to his repertoire of artistic skills. Although this will serve as his first leading role, Kravitz does have some acting experience under his belt. In the past few years he’s played parts in movies like ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Precious’ and has a handful of additional movies he’s contributed to sitting in post-production or currently being filmed. According to ABC News , the Marvin Gaye biopic will focus on the troubled artist’s life during the early ‘80s when he was in Europe and trying to kick his drug habit and revive his music career. Gaye’s life came to a tragic end in 1984 when he was shot by his father. Although Kravitz has not yet commented on his involvement, his publicist has confirmed his role. The biopic is set to be shot next year and directed by Julien Temple. Kravitz’s most recent album, ‘Black and White America,’ was released in August of 2011.
