Just in case you need an extra jolt to keep you on the edge of your seat, a photo has surfaced of frontman Lemmy Kilmister laying down some bass tracks in the studio for Motorhead’s follow-up album to 2010′s ‘The Wörld Is Yours.’ Motorhead are settled in the studio with longtime producer Cameron Webb for the band’s next album, which is expected to drop this summer. BraveWords recently spoke with Lemmy Kilmister to talk about Motorhead’s 21st studio album. “We’ve got 11 songs so far,” says Kilmister. “I’m just writing words to them at the moment, and putting bass and vocals on the tracks. So we’ll see – it will take a little while. It’s going all right though. I did two tracks yesterday.” Some confirmed song titles for the new Motorhead album include ‘Outsider’ and ‘Silence When You Speak to Me,’ As for the release date, Kilmister comments, “We’ve got to get it out by the end of summer.” So there you have it! Frontman Lemmy Kilmister himself presented the new headphones this week in Las Vegas at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Along with introducing the headphones, Lemmy offered some priceless quotes while answering questions at a Motorheadphones press conference. Motorheadphones brand manager Andres Nicklassen describes what make the new product different from the various headphones released by hip-hop musicians. The main difference is that Motorheadphones are engineered to focus on mid-range sounds, rather than Beats headphones and the like, which are more about the bass. Nicklassen went as far to say that Beats “takes the soul out of rock,” after which Lemmy compared the Beats experience to “listening through a towel.” Lemmy was full of dry British wit when interviewed by reporters: Reporter 1: “There’s a lot of lines of headphones; celebrity headphones…” Lemmy: “Oh, is there? I didn’t know.” Reporter 1: “So why are these different?” Lemmy: “Because they’re from Motorhead.” Reporter 1: “So is the sound quality different?” Lemmy: “These are for deaf people, you see. Our fans are deaf, remember?” Lemmy is exactly right when he says that Motorheadphones are for deaf people, as the speakers are 6-10 times more powerful than a standard set of headphones. “These new headphones are not like the weak-kneed, lily-livered, tin-pot, skinny sounding little pieces of garbage out on the market today,” says Lemmy. “We designed these headphones to deliver everything louder than anything else and with the sort of range, clarity and TRUE rock reproduction you’d expect from a band of warriors like us.” Meanwhile, Lemmy took some time to mess with some additional reporters: Reporter 2: “When you were developing this did you listen to a lot of your music when you were playing it back and make sure they sounded the way you wanted them to sound?” Lemmy: “I didn’t have a chance to do that, but we told them what to do with them … very specifically. And we threatened them with terrible violence if they didn’t get it right, so I’m sure they got it right.” Reporter 3: “Lemmy, do you like hip-hop?” Lemmy: “No.” Reporter 3: “Why are these headphones better than any headphones out there?” Lemmy: “Because we’ve said they are.” We’re sold! YouTube Lemmy Kilmister may be an ageless wonder, but the Motorhead frontman need not worry about his band’s music surviving for the long haul. That’s because the robot band known as Compressorhead does a pretty nifty job of taking on the Motorhead classic ‘Ace of Spades.’ The mechanical outfit is not only quite adept at playing the hard-driving song, but one of the robots, guitarist Fingers, has the headbanging action down pat as well. However, watching Compressorhead play gives you newfound respect for Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee, as it’s noticeable that the robot drummer Stickboy has a few more appendages to pull off what Dee normally does behind the kit. Compressorhead take their “metal” roots to heart, also covering such songs as AC/DC ‘s ‘TNT’ and Pantera ‘s ‘ Becoming ‘ as part of their repertoire. Drummer Stickboy previously performed at the 2008 Big Day Out festival in Australia and will return with the full robot group to be part of the 2013 Big Day Out bill . The legendary Motorhead have released a total of nine types of ‘Motorheadphones,’ including three kinds of traditional headphones and six in-ear models. Each model of headphone is named after a Motorhead song, with the traditional types entitled, ‘Bomber,’ ‘Ironfist’ and ‘Motorizer.’ The six types of in-ear headphones are labeled as ‘Overkill’ and ‘Trigger,’ with the models available in black, silver and brass. The 2013 Download festival has announced more acts for its upcoming three-day show, and the list is incredibly enticing. Alice in Chains , Queens of the Stone Age , Motorhead , 30 Seconds to Mars , the Gaslight Anthem , HIM and A Day to Remember have all been added to the bill. The aforementioned acts will join previously announced headliners Slipknot (June 14), Iron Maiden (June 15) and Rammstein (June 16). For Queens of the Stone Age, this will mark their first appearance at Download. The rest, though, are pretty much Download veterans. 30 Seconds to Mars are back for the third time, Motorhead for a fourth time, Alice in Chains for a second time and A Day to Remember for a third appearance. Download has a lengthy history of booking quality performers, as Soundgarden , Megadeth and Metallica all graced the festival stage in 2012. One of those backgrounds happens to be playing bass and providing vocals for Motorhead , with the legendary Lemmy Kilmister offering his two cents on the election. During a recent discussion with Rolling Stone , Lemmy was talking about his inclusion for a Chuck Berry tribute concert. During the conversation, Rolling Stone journalist Patrick Doyle shared an experience he had while interviewing Berry, who teared up while saying, “My dad said, ‘I don’t know if we’ll live to see it, but one day we will [have an African-American President] – and thank God that I have.’” Lemmy responded to the story with a passionate statement of his own. “I would have said America wasn’t ready for it. And I don’t think they were, because they’re trying to drag him down now,” begins Lemmy. “I mean, the poor f—er’s only just gotten rid of all that George Bush s–t that he left, or is trying to. And he’s being stonewalled by the f—ing Congress all the time. I don’t know how he’s gotten anything done. They should be glad. I mean the alternative is Mitt Romney. Please, please don’t vote for Mitt Romney. F— him. Repeal abortion law is the first thing he’ll do. F—ing monster.” When Lemmy was asked whether he had been watching the debates, the musician responded, “I couldn’t bear it.” Be sure to head out and vote tomorrow (Nov. 6), but in the meantime, make sure you cast your vote for our President of Heavy Metal election.
