Slayer’s Kerry King on Next Album: ‘I’m Very Comfortable Saying That It Will Be Out This Year’

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Although Slayer have a way to go in recording their next album and there is no set timetable for when it may come out, guitarist Kerry King has stated that he is “very comfortable saying” that the record will see a 2013 release date. ‘That Metal Show’ host Eddie Trunk spoke with King at the 2013 NAMM convention and nabbed a comment from the legendary thrash guitarist. “We have two songs that we completed last May and just need mixing,” reveals King. “We have another that just needs vocals and leads and me and [drummer]  Dave [Lombardo]  are working on a complete new one that we haven’t demoed. The whole hold-up now that seems to happen with every album we do is that Rick Rubin wants to change distributors. So we’re left in limbo until he lands somewhere. Realistically we are without a deal, but we plan on staying with Rick. When that gets settled we will start recording. I’m very comfortable saying that it will be out this year.” King also commented on the health of guitarist Jeff Hanneman , who is still recovering from necrotizing fasciitis after suffering a spider bite. “Not to sound weird, but when you get off tour, you scatter. And [it’s not] because I hate him, I don’t talk to him because I had enough of him! I don’t even talk to [singer] Tom [Araya]. The only reason I talk to Dave is that we rehearse all the time. When I go off tour I just want to go chill and be Kerry, not Kerry King. From what I know he’s still trying to get basic in the game.” Hanneman has unfortunately not been able to contribute to the next Slayer record as of yet. “I have enough material on my own if need be, but I’m open,” King says. “If Jeff comes to the party with some new material, hell ya! I will play all the guitars. I’ve been playing all the guitars for years anyway, except for Jeff’s leads.” Check out Eddie Trunk’s full interview with Kerry King below. Slayer Drummer Dave Lombardo Performs ‘Raining Blood’ With Metal Mariachi Band

Courtesy of Slayer There isn’t much middle ground that thrash legends Slayer share with Mexican mariachi bands, which is why this next video is incredible. Not only did Los Angeles-based metal-meets-mariachi band Metalachi perform an insanely weird version of Slayer’s ‘Raining Blood,’ but they did it with the one and only  Dave Lombardo behind the drum kit. Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has never been one to pass on a good jam session, having experimented with bands Fantomas and Philm in the past, but this jam session is about has pure as can be. The dichotomy between Lombardo’s ferocious drumming and Metalachi’s brilliant ridiculousness blend together perfectly for a hilarious Mexican gumbo. According to the band’s Facebook profile, the members of Metalachi crossed the boarder from Juarez, Mexico into the U.S. only to discover a partially buried copy of Black Sabbath ‘s ‘Paranoid’ album waiting for them on the other side. After meeting their destiny on American soil, Metalachi has become “the greatest metal band to ever live,” so apparently Dave Lombardo is jumping on the bandwagon early before the group begins to play sold-out arenas. Check out this footage of Metalachi performing ‘Raining Blood’ with a little help from Dave Lombardo. Slayer’s ‘Raining Blood’ Used in Halloween Themed Google Chromebook Commercial

Sony Holy Slayer , we’ve got yet another mainstream commercial using metal music to sell their product. This time, Google has used the Slayer anthem ‘Raining Blood’ for a Halloween-themed commercial for the company’s new Chromebook. The commercial is mostly text-based, and reads, “For little devils, for scaring off viruses, for spooky-fast startup, for an undead battery, for horror movie marathons, for no fear of crashes, for no phantom files, for no software nightmares, for a fun size, for no haunting hassles; the $249 laptop from Google for everyone.” This is the second time in a short while where Slayer has been used in a commercial. In September, ESPN used the band’s logo for comedic contrast for an ad featuring the seemingly nerdy SportsCenter commentator John Clayton, who wears a Slayer shirt while showcasing a ‘Reign in Blood’ poster in his “bedroom.” Still, the reigning champion of heavy metal commercials is the History Channel , when they used Suffocation ‘s ‘Bind Torture Kill’ to promote their ‘Dark Ages’ programming. What do you think of the use of Slayer’s music for a Google commercial? Is it funny? Does it work well? Is it a sellout move? Let us know your opinion in the comments section below.
