Guns N’ Roses Announced as Third Headliner of New York’s Governors Ball Festival

Chris McKay, Getty Images New York’s annual Governors Ball festival recently revealed its lineup for the 2013 event, and it’s an eclectic mix of primarily indie rock bands and hip-hop acts. But there was one headliner not announced that remained a mystery. Organizers have now filled in that rather conspicuous blank with legendary rockers Guns N’ Roses . The veteran outfit will take their stage show to Randall’s Island park in New York, where they’ll share the spotlight over the June 7-9 three-day weekend with fellow headliners Kings of Leon and Kanye West . The festival will be the band’s first major North American show since their Las Vegas residency and the Neil Young Bridge School benefit last fall. The Governors Ball festival is primarily indie-rock leaning, with GN’R serving as the primary hard rock option for festival-goers. Along with the headliners, fans can also catch the Avett Brothers, Grizzly Bear, Feist, The xx, Best Coast, Animal Collective, Gary Clark Jr., Kendrick Lamar, Nas and more. Guns N’ Roses have used some of their recent downtime to continue work on a 3D concert film that’s expected later this year. The band is also heading to Australia for a handful of March performances . Guns N’ Roses’ DJ Ashba Cites Production Issues for Band’s Concert Tardiness

Jason Merritt, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses have taken a few knocks in recent years for appearing onstage late or rolling past curfews as a result, but one of the main reasons for that occurrence is the production value that they’re bringing to audiences around the world. Guitarist DJ Ashba tells Australia’s Yahoo7 News that the production issues are a common reason for the delay in getting the band to the stage. He explains, “We have a huge rig and pyrotechnics so often it’s the case of fitting all that into the venue. Our number one priority is to make the shows safe. [The criticism from fans on social media] kills us as a band because we’re not doing any of this on purpose. Our main goal is to go and give the fans a show they will never forget and we understand how expensive tickets are. We take that into account and when we do hit the stage, it’s almost impossible to get us off.” The guitarist also addressed the sometimes negative perception of frontman Axl Rose in the media, explaining, “I think a lot of people and the press try to blow it up and say he’s an a–hole, but everyone can be an a–hole if you get them on the wrong day. One thing people don’t seem to get is that he’s genuinely funny and he’s always joking around and telling stories to make people laugh. I always say that if he wasn’t a musician, he’d be a great comedian. I wish the world could see that side of him because it’s the opposite of what people have branded in their brains.” Even though Ashba is one of the last members to join the current Guns N’ Roses lineup, he says that Rose has done nothing but treat his bandmates like gold since he started. He adds, “He lets us write our own solos and gives everybody their time to shine on stage and I think that says a lot about who he is. He has no problem sharing the spotlight, in fact he quite likes it.” Guns N’ Roses will next take the stage this March in Australia. 10 Best Nikki Sixx Songs

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Nikki Sixx may not be a frontman, but you’d be hard pressed to find a bassist that deserved the spotlight more. As a songwriter, Sixx had a hand in creating a majority of the hard-rocking hits Motley Crue have cranked out over the years. Plus he’s shown that even outside of Crue, he’s still a creative force to be reckoned with as the namesake member of the powerful trio Sixx: A.M. He even turned in some solid work in the lesser-known bands 58 and Brides of Destruction. With that in mind, we salute Nikki Sixx’s contributions to the world of hard rock and metal with this list of his best work. So let’s kickstart our countdown of the 10 Best Nikki Sixx Songs: 10 ‘Looks That Kill’ Motley Crue From: ‘Shout at the Devil’ (1983) ‘Looks That Kill’ gave Motley Crue their first national music video exposure and the track introduced fans to Vince Neil ‘s soon-to-be-recognizable voice and some stellar guitar work from Mick Mars. Sixx penned the track, which provides a more sinister feel to describing a gorgeous woman. ‘Looks’ aren’t the only thing that kill with this song. This driving track slays in concert, as well. Listen to ‘Looks That Kill’ 9 ‘Lies of the Beautiful People’ Sixx: A.M. From: ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ (2011) Nikki Sixx’s passion for photography find its way in his second book-album amalgamation, ‘This Is Gonna Hurt.’ The Sixx: A.M. bassist took pleasure in shooting non-traditional beauty, and even leads off the song’s video by stating, “It’s okay to be different.” Musically the track ‘Lies of the Beautiful People’ is driven by Sixx’s chunky bass and guitarist DJ Ashba ‘s licks, while singer James Michael offers the requisite amount of emotion using his upper register to make the song an inspirational one. Listen to ‘Lies of the Beautiful People’ 8 ‘Girls Girls Girls’ Motley Crue From: ‘Girls Girls Girls’ (1987 Motley Crue’s partying was reaching its height in the mid-to-late ’80s and you tend to write what you know. The anthem ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ was an ode to the strip clubs where the band enjoyed some of their best times. Sixx’s chugging bass, Mars’ memorable guitar licks and the boastful wail of Vince Neil led this track. It’s still a staple today both in strip clubs and as part of the band’s live set. Listen to ‘Girls Girls Girls’ 7 ‘Shout at the Devil’ Motley Crue From: ‘Shout at the Devil’ (1983) ‘Shout at the Devil’ is the track that gave the Crue their first radio success. The song itself features Mick Mars ‘ blistering guitar and Tommy Lee ‘s cymbal mastery. Sixx, who penned the track, took some criticism over the song’s alleged satanism, but the rocker would say in ‘The Dirt’ autobiography, “It just looks cool. It’s meaningless symbols and s–t. I’m just doing it to piss people off. It’s not like I worship Satan or something.” Listen to ‘Shout at the Devil’ 6 ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ Sixx: A.M. From: ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ (2011) When it comes to straight-up, adrenaline-filled rockers, there’s no doubt that Sixx: A.M.’s ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ deserves its spot among the 10 Best Nikki Sixx Songs. The second single from the band’s sophomore album is one of the more rocket-fueled tracks that Sixx has come up with. There’s some serious shredding by Ashba on guitar and James Michael’s vocals deliver one of the catchiest choruses in the band’s catalog. Listen to ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ 5 ‘Dr. Feelgood’ Motley Crue From: ‘Dr. Feelgood’ (1989) One of Motley Crue’s biggest songs has Sixx’s fingerprints all over it. The chugging opening of ‘Dr. Feelgood’ immediately grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. As for the title and lyrical content, Sixx would tell Rolling Stone , “It had a whole different theme to it. It was called ‘Dr. Feelgood,’ but a whole different thing lyrically. In the end, it was inspired by drug dealers. Is there ever just one? A good drug addict always has more than one dealer.” Listen to ‘Dr. Feelgood’ 4 ‘Wild Side’ Motley Crue From: ‘Girls Girls Girls’ (1987) ‘Wild Side’ is one of the more non-traditional songs in the band’s catalog, with its shifting time signatures and equal parts swinging and rocking moments. But that doesn’t mean it rocks any less. In fact, it’s a live favorite with the band getting to show off more of their skill. Lyrically, the track deals with the band’s own hardships in the Los Angeles music scene and is meant as a rallying cry to those who’ve lived life on the ‘Wild Side.’ Listen to ‘Wild Side’ 3 ‘Life Is Beautiful’ Sixx: A.M. From: ‘The Heroin Diaries’ (2007) ‘Life Is Beautiful’ deserves its spot on the 10 Best Nikki Sixx Songs list as it is arguably his most personal track. The bassist lays his soul bare on this one, expressing the emotions he felt upon almost dying from his drug addiction and what he endured while kicking his habit. Beautifully and powerfully delivered by singer James Michael, the song is one of the most affecting songs in Sixx’s arsenal. Listen to ‘Life Is Beautiful’ 2 ‘Home Sweet Home’ Motley Crue From: ‘Theatre of Pain’ (1985) Look up power ballad in the dictionary and this song should be the definition. ‘Home Sweet Home’ finds drummer Tommy Lee delivering the opening piano notes and Vince Neil joining Sixx and Lee in receiving writing credits. After the opening stanza, the song rocks out with Lee returning to drums and Sixx’s bass work keeping the pace in place of the piano. The song is also notable for arguably the band’s most recognizable guitar solo from Mick Mars. Listen to ‘Home Sweet Home’ 1 ‘Kickstart My Heart’ Motley Crue From: ‘Dr. Feelgood’ (1989) While Nikki Sixx has penned some serious songs about his drug addiction and near-death experience, this one offers a lighter take. It was inspired by the two adrenaline shots needed to revive him after he was clinically declared dead. Sixx told Rolling Stone he initially considered the track “a throwaway,” but that it fit the band’s album better than expected. Luckily the band held onto the song, as it yielded a Grammy nomination and turned into one of their most requested live tracks. Listen to ‘Kickstart My Heart’ What Is Your Favorite Nikki Sixx Song? So there you have it — a pretty impressive list of songs that Nikki Sixx has had a hand in recording over the years. Did your favorite Nikki Sixx song make the cut? Would you like to make an argument for a Brides of Destruction or 58 song to make the list? Here’s your chance to give us feedback on this list. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Slipknot’s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan to Direct Video for Hollywood Undead Track ‘We Are’

Mary Ouellette, shewillshootyou.com / Ethan Miller, Getty Images Hollywood Undead are gearing up to release their third studio album, ‘Notes From the Underground’ in 2013. With another year coming our way, rock and metal acts from around the world will attempt to create the biggest buzz of the year, capturing the spotlight for themselves and their music. To give Hollywood Undead a little extra boost for the new single ‘We Are,’ the band has recruited Slipknot ‘s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan to direct the song’s music video. Crahan has helped Slipknot achieve phenomenal success since the group’s inception, and the artist will now seek to lend his talents to Hollywood Undead for the ‘We Are’ video. “We are very excited to be working with someone that thinks as progressively about their art as we do,” says Hollywood Undead’s Da Kurlzz. ”Clown is a great director, and together we are going to deliver something truly memorable.” Band member Johnny 3 Tears elaborates, “The song [‘We Are’] is about collective resistance. It’s the silent majority, but we’re using Los Angeles as the backdrop. Every time we work with Danny, he takes our music to the next level. Think of it as an ode to our misled youth.” Johnny continues, “We’ve maintained an underground identity. When we write songs, we’re coming from a place people don’t like to look at or talk about openly. As people get older, they get used to lying. We have a bond with so many kids because they appreciate that honesty. They don’t know how bad some things get yet. We tell them the truth.” The ‘Notes From the Underground’ album title is an homage to the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Stay tuned for the ‘We Are’ video and the 2013 release of ‘Notes From the Underground.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/hollywood-undead-notes-from-the-underground-webisode-1-exclusive-premiere/” title=”Next: Watch the First ‘Notes From the Underground’ Webisode” align=”center”]

Green Day’s Music To Serve as Soundtrack to Episode of ‘CSI: NY’

Christopher Polk / Carlo Allegri, Getty Images Green Day may be off the road due to Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s rehab stint , but the group is finding plenty of other ways to remain in the spotlight. One of them will happen on Oct. 19, when the group’s music is used to soundtrack an episode of the CBS crime drama ‘CSI: NY.’ According to the band’s website , songs such as ‘Stop When the Red Light Flashes,’ ‘Amy,’ ‘Night Life,’ ‘The Forgotten,’ and ‘Kill the DJ’ will help tell the story of the episode. In the episode itself, Lindsay (Anna Belknap) is injured while trying to stop the attempted murder of a political candidate. CSI: NY executive producer Pam Veasey states, “My ultimate goal was to tell a story without dialogue, and Green Day’s music and lyrics beautifully accompanied the visuals making it a very special episode.” The band stated, “We were stoked when we found out ‘CSI: NY’ wanted to use our music instead of dialogue to narrate the first few acts of the episode. It’s the first time something like this has been done on the series, and we are blown away with what we’ve seen.” ‘CSI: NY’ airs Fridays on CBS at 8PM ET/PT. Tommy Lee Sued Over Roller Coaster Drum Design

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Motley Crue  shows are made even more entertaining by the antics of drummer Tommy Lee .  For many male fans, tops on the list is the portion of the show where Lee encourages ladies to show a certain part of their anatomy on camera. Right behind that is Lee’s roller coaster drum solo. However, that drum design is now part of a lawsuit. As previously reported, an engineer named Scott King wrote a letter to Motley Crue’s lawyers, saying he pitched the idea for the drums more than 20 years ago and was turned down.  He claims Lee used his design during Motley Crue’s 2011 tour, wants compensation, and threatened to sue. Lee’s lawyers responded to King’s letter by denying Lee stole King’s idea. Now, according to TMZ , King has officially filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court. He is demanding at least $400,000 in damages. Meanwhile, Lee is about to turn 50, and apparently he made a pact  with ex-wife Pamela Anderson that if they were both single at 50 they would remarry. But Anderson recently told Ellen DeGeneres that she doesn’t remember making that pact.  So it doesn’t look like a reconciliation is in the cards. Anderson has been in the spotlight lately, being the first person to be eliminated in the current all-star season of  ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ The couple divorced in 1998, but have two kids together and remain close. Mark Tremonti Crushes New York City With Assist From Wolfgang Van Halen

Playing his first solo show in New York City, Mark Tremonti came across as a seasoned frontman. Leading his latest outfit, Tremonti, the guitarist for Creed and Alter Bridge was in the spotlight last night (Sept. 12) at NYC’s Highline Ballroom, and his fans couldn’t have been happier. The debut Tremonti album, ‘All I Was,’ was released on July 17. Full of great thrash riffs and crushing rhythms, the band proved
