Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard Narrows New Album Timeline to ‘Nine or Twelve Months’

Rick Diamond, Getty Images Pearl Jam fans have been waiting patiently for new music and the band admittedly has been taking things at their own pace, but guitarist Stone Gossard gave fans some hope for a light at the end of the tunnel by offering a timeline during an interview on an Italian radio station this week. The guitarist told the station (excerpted by GrungeReport.net ), “I cannot tell you an exact date, but if all goes according to plan, we will have a new Pearl Jam album in nine or twelve months.” For those doing the math in their heads, that would place the timeline between November 2013 and February 2014. Last fall, both Jeff Ament and Eddie Vedder alluded to the band being halfway through their new album, but they also revealed that the group had spent significant time away from each other over the past year and would regroup when the timing felt right to conclude their disc. Late last month, Ament added that the band members had met with producer Brendan O’Brien , which would at least signify that they might be starting up on new music soon. The group has also booked some scattered dates this summer, including a show at Chicago’s Wrigley Field . The still-untitled new album would be the band’s first since 2009′s ‘Backspacer’ and only their third disc in the last decade. Three Days Grace Share Intimate Details of Singer Adam Gontier’s Departure

Ethan Miller, Getty Images The recent exit of Three Days Grace singer Adam Gontier from the group shocked many in the music industry, but probably no one more than the rest of his bandmates. After offering a very brief statement on Gontier’s exit and revealing that My Darkest Days frontman Matt Walst would be filling in on their upcoming tour with Shinedown, more and more details have begun to leak out. Initially it was stated that a “health issue” was part of the reason for Gontier’s sudden exit , but the vocalist later told fans that he had not suffered a relapse in his sobriety and that he had decided the time had come to “evolve on his own terms.” For their part, Three Days Grace issued another statement after the initial posting stating that they were shocked to hear the news, but were committed to their tour and still felt a passion for what they were doing. Not soon after his exit, it was revealed that Gontier was planning a solo show at a New York City benefit on Jan. 17, which raised a few more eyebrows. Having some time to deal with the aftermath of Gontier’s exit, the group has decided to let fans in on the timeline of the singer’s departure and today (Jan. 16)  offered a Facebook posting with more intimate details about the split. It reads as follows: It had been our desire to keep an internal band matter just that, internal. However, after public statements by Adam we feel the need to give our fans the facts. Here’s the exact timeline of events over the past few weeks. On December 21, 2012, Neil and Brad (via email), our manager and business manager (via federal express) received a letter from Adam’s lawyer stating, “Please be advised effective immediately Adam is terminating his involvement with the band Three Days Grace. Adam has been wrestling with a health issue, outlined in the attached letter (a doctor’s letter dated December 14), which would have precluded him from touring with the band in 2013 and he wants the group to continue moving forward as they see fit while not holding them back.” As you can imagine, this came as a complete shock to us. We had just played a series of shows in Hartford and Peterborough the preceding week with no mention from Adam of any health issues or that this resignation letter was coming. We had no idea then that the December 15th Hartford show (which we played one day after the date of the doctor’s note attached to Adam’s lawyer’s letter) would be our final show with Adam as lead singer. After receiving Adam’s lawyer’s letter, Brad sent Adam a text offering to get together to make sure that Adam’s decision was in fact the decision he wanted to make, a final decision, and to talk through any issues. As Brad said, “It would suck to end a twenty year relationship through a lawyer.” Brad’s invitation was declined by Adam via a text stating, “My decision is 100%. My relationship with Three Days Grace is over.” We were then surprised to learn that even though we were told on December 21st that Adam was not able to tour with the band due to health concerns, he apparently planned on participating in a show on January 17 in New York City, as a solo artist. How would you feel if you were in our shoes? Someone you had known for 20 years, whom you had grown up with, gone through ups and downs with, shared dreams with, ends that relationship as if you had known him for a single day with a letter from a lawyer. With a new album and new tour about to begin, and music that everyone in the band is proud to play and promote, we were quickly left to come up with a way to continue what we started. We had a tour for “Transit of Venus” scheduled to start in a month, and we felt we owed it to our fans and ourselves to go through with it. As we have said before, our fans are the best. You have stood with us through good times and bad times and you are the reason we do what we do. We appreciate more than we can say in words the support we have received during this time. This is not about choosing sides or deciding who’s right or who’s wrong. This is about being honest with you. Adam has made his choice and we wish him well. We care about our band, and we care about honouring our commitments to you, the fans. Three Days Grace has never been about one single band member and it never will be. After touring is complete, we will move forward. In what shape and form, that is yet to be determined. What we can tell you is that and are excited to rock live and we can’t wait to see you all on the road. Baroness’ John Baizley Updates Fans on Health, Jams ‘Stretchmarker’ Acoustically

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Ever since a gruesome bus crash caused the career of Georgian eclectic collective Baroness to come to a screeching halt, the band has been healing in a multitude of ways. Frontman John Baizley severely broke his left arm and leg, drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni suffered fractured vertebrae, while guitarist Pete Adams was treated for more minor injuries. Despite the horrific pause in the timeline of Baroness, Baizley has written yet another uplifting entry on his health, along with video footage of ‘Stretchmarker’ from their 2012 double album, ‘Yellow & Green,’ played acoustically. Two months after the August bus crash in England, we had the honor to facilitate the very first interview with John Baizley since the accident. Within the hour-long discussion, Baizley opened up about his injuries, the slow recovery process and even how the wreck affected his life as a father. Now, Baizley has released another update, which can be simply described as remarkably inspirational: Simply put: it’s time to get back to it. Since my belated and thankful return to the USA (after our painful test in motor coach-aeronautics) I can definitively say I’ve exhausted my reserve of potential leisure activities (there’s not that many of them, after all). I’ve come dreadfully close to boredom, and in those moments I can’t help but focus on my glaring physical infirmities. Television offers little respite from this relative stasis; I’m sure by now I have sampled every biker-meth-dealer-zombie-low-talking-cop-crime-scene-serial-killer-real-housewife soap opera that is currently being broadcast (and there’s no small number of them). I’ve tried to fill my weekly routine with as much physical therapy as possible but the truth is, PT is not fun, and its benefits come with a great deal of mental/physical/spiritual pain and struggle. Furthermore, I believe I am getting a touch of Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to my doctors and therapists (the highlight of my week should NOT involve a clinic). Music might be the best therapy I have right now. Perhaps it’s both the cause and the cure (the thought has crossed my mind); but I feel lost without it.  Pete and I have just spent a long week surveying our musical wreckage and, surprisingly, we are quite well and intact. Sure, there are some substantial obstacles to overcome before we write, record or perform any time soon; but we still have everything we need to get ‘back in’ that particular ’saddle again.’ Most of my peers are familiar with such high-school-gym-teacher poeticisms as ‘risk equals reward’ and ‘no pain, no gain;’ but did any of us every really believe there was any real wisdom in those adolescent platitudes? I didn’t. I am, however, starting to understand the essence of these and many of our other favorite clichés. As odd as it might be for me to write these ‘updates’ after 10 years of personal silence on the internet, I feel that I owe everyone who’s voiced or given their support to  Baroness a brief synopsis of our situation and more importantly a heartfelt thanks.  Honestly, it has made this ordeal much easier on me. What little publicity that surrounds our crash has given voice to so many people who have shared their own stories of injury, trauma and struggle with us, and has furthered my own faith in the communicative and universal strength of music. As every singer on every stage has nightly said, ‘we wouldn’t be where we are without you.’ Thanks everyone. We look forward to seeing you soon. Here’s a short clip of a song we wrote.” Check out John Baizley and Pete Adams performing an acoustic cover of ‘Stretchmarker.’ Baroness, ‘Stretchmarker’ (Acoustic Jam) [button href=”http://loudwire.com/best-rock-albums-of-2012/” title=”Baroness – Best Rock Albums of 2012″ align=”center”]

Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan Appears on ‘CBS This Morning’

Theo Wargo, Getty Images Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has continued his non-stop press tour with interviews with ‘CBS This Morning,’ the Chicago Tribune and Sound Magazine recently. Out of the three sit-downs, plenty of riveting news and quotes was offered by Corgan, such as the possibility of writing a triple album, the current state of rock music and much more. During Corgan’s appearance on CBS ‘ This Morning ,’ the frontman responded to praise from fans regarding Corgan’s newest album, ‘Oceania,’ and the belief that the frontman seems creatively rejuvenated. “I think America is obsessed with what I call ‘the peak moment,’ says Corgan, but as an artist I’m invested in the journey, and when I study other artists, I’m just as interested in the fallow times as I am interested in the great times.” Corgan went on to reference the works of artist Pablo Picasso to represent the timeline of the Smashing Pumpkins. “There are some horrible paintings in there, but you can learn a lot from the horrible paintings because, ‘What was he trying to express that he wasn’t able to?’” During Corgan’s Sound Magazine interview, the musician flirted with the idea of creating a triple album. “Actually we’ve talked about making a triple album, not with this current album, but the next one. We started talking about what that would mean. I would like to do another big work but that just takes so much energy and commitment. It just takes over your life” Finally, Corgan voiced his opinion of today’s rock world during his chat with the Chicago Tribune . “I do believe rock and roll needed to change away from a hero-worship culture back to what it always was, which is sort of a mystical culture,” explains Corgan. “But that has been subverted basically by commerce. It speaks to a bigger sociological point, which is: Everything is for sale now. One painter can paint a house and make it feel haunted and another painter can paint it and bore you to tears. So, what is it about the painter of the haunted house capturing the symbolic forms? That’s how I look at it.” The Smashing Pumpkins are finishing up their 2012 U.S. tour dates tonight (Dec. 10) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Billy Corgan on CBS ‘This Morning’
