New Sevendust Song Gives Anthrax Singer Joey Belladonna Goosebumps

YouTube Powerful music often elicits involuntary responses. A smile. The chills. Goosebumps. Tears. You can’t fight the response that your body and your heart have to a quality, high impact song. Anthrax frontman Joey Belladonna is no different than the rest of us when it comes to his response to music. He was so moved by the new Sevendust song ‘Blackout’ that he got goosebumps and almost cried. Sevendust are currently recording their new album in New Jersey and they have shared many a video update on the process, looping fans into the Sevendust way. In this particular clip, Belladonna is on site, seated, listening to the music in the studio, staring intently, absorbing every note while nodding along to the melody. He is surrounded by singer Lajon Witherspoon and drummer Morgan Rose. He makes the grim metal face for a hot second, and then shows his arms, indicating that he has goosebumps or that the babyfine hairs are standing on end as a result of listening to the song. That’s power! He then says, “That makes me cry” and wipes his eye. We don’t full on see the vocalist shed a tear, but he is visibly moved by the song, which is reportedly about the passing of guitarist Clint Lowery’s father. It’s refreshing to see a musical icon like Belladonna have such a genuine reaction to a song. The video also reveals that Sevendust’s new album should arrive in April 2013. Watch Joey Belladonna in the Studio With Sevendust

Kid Rock and Actor Sean Penn Go Head-to-Head in Hilarious Political Video

YouTube: KidRockVideos Kid Rock and actor Sean Penn have just made one of the funniest collaborative videos in recent memory. The two stars operate on two very different sides of the political spectrum, but in this short film titled ‘Americans,’ the duo are able to find a peaceful friendship in each other, while Penn persuades Kid Rock to buy a Prius, Kid Rock replaces Penn’s martini with a good ol’ brewski, and much more. The video begins with an irritable Sean Penn walking into a bar, faced with a Mitt Romney speech on the television, with Kid Rock performing in support of the Republican Presidential candidate. After asking a bartender to change the channel, Penn notices that Kid Rock, draped in a pair of overalls, happens to be at the very same drinking establishment. A brilliant war of words develops, as Penn calls Kid Rock a “seal-clubbing, Confederate flag-waving, oil-whoring, ‘Chick-fil-A’-eating, waterboarding, NASCAR-loving, Caiman Island bank account-having, endangered species hunting, warmongering, redneck, toothless, Wall Street troglodyte.” Kid Rock responds by pinning Penn as a “tofu-munching, welfare-loving, Prius-driving, Obama-sucking, tree-hugging, whale-saving, gay marriage-fantasizing, big government-voting, PETA-chasing, Oprah Winfrey-masturbating, flag-burning, socialist, ACLU, whiney-ass granola-crat.” Before a fight breaks out between the two, common ground is discovered which unites the duo, inspiring them experience the life of their political contrarians. The rest of the video is hilarious, and absolutely worth a good watch. “The goal of the film is to tear down the one-dimensional political stereotypes portrayed by the media by confronting them head on,” reads the video’s description. “It reminds us that what really matters is that we’re all Americans, with diverse thoughts, opinions and stances on issues. We are millions of unique, individual parts, the sum of which comprise a whole that is the shining beacon of freedom throughout the world.” See how Kid Rock and Sean Penn settle their differences in this soon-to-go-viral video. Corey Taylor Dishes on Working With Dave Grohl for ‘Sound City’ Documentary

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com / Kevin Winter, Getty Images Several months ago it was revealed that  Slipknot / Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor was one of the artists recording music with  Foo Fighters frontman / ex- Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl for the latter’s ;Sound City’ documentary. Now Taylor has revealed more about the collaboration in an interview with Phoenix radio station KUPD (watch below). Taylor reveals, “[Dave Grohl] sent an email to me, basically explaining this huge project he was doing – the documentary around the infamous board that he got from Sound City, which so many people have recorded on – myself included – we did ‘Iowa’ on that board…He bought it, and I loved the idea that he was like ‘how many albums have been made on this board?” He adds, “He wrote the song, he sent me a demo of it and I was like ‘this is fantastic’ and I just basically wrote the first thing that came off the top of my head. He didn’t even hear it until I went down there to record it. And I laid it down and he was just like ‘wow.’ Because we did it old school – two inch tape, take after take after take. And with that board, man. It just sings, it was really, really cool.” Countless legendary albums were recorded at Sound City, including Nirvana ‘s ‘Nevermind,’ Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours,’ Neil Young’s ‘After The Gold Rush,’ Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’ ‘Damn the Torpedoes’ and Rage Against the Machine ‘s self-titled debut. While an official release date for the documentary has still not been revealed,  the web site for the film has several video clips and other info. Watch Corey Taylor’s Interview on KUPD

Mark Tremonti Envisions Wolfgang Van Halen Recording With His Band

Fernando Leon / Kevin Winter, Getty Images Wolfgang Van Halen was definitely thrown into the fire, being called upon to play bass for Tremonti a day before the band’s first show of their fall tour, but it looks like things are working out so well that his involvement will continue beyond their current trek. Mark Tremonti tells the Metal Shrine blog, “We’ve already talked about [recording] and we look forward to it. I think it’ll add a whole other element to this band.” The guitarist was very complimentary of his new bassist, who came on board after his longtime Creed and Alter Bridge cohort Brian Marshall had to exit to deal with some personal issues. Tremonti says of Wolfgang, “He’s a very positive person and good to be around and an incredibly talented musician. Things have been going well.” The guitarist says that things have a weird way of working out, and Van Halen’s entrance into the band was not the first time he was actually considered for the group. The guitarist says, “We had talked about having him being a part of the band early on, but Van Halen got back together and did a nine-month tour together and it was right in the window when we needed to do this, so we moved on without him. Eric Friedman tracked the bass on the record, and then we started touring and we had Brian Marshall playing bass with us, and then something came up at the last minute with Brian and it just so happened that Wolfgang was in town. I gave him a shout and he came right over and jumped on board.” In a recent video interview , Wolfgang admitted that even though he was a last minute addition to the lineup, he was definitely familiar with the music. The bassist says he was hanging out in New Jersey with Sevendust at the same time that Tremonti was tracking his disc, and got to know the band pretty well. Metallica Offer Free Download of Orion Music + More Soundcheck

Donald Kravitz, Getty Images When we arrived at Bader Field the day before Metallica ‘s Orion Music + More festival, we were greeted with the band rocking out to one of our favorite tunes, ‘Creeping Death.’ It turned out that they were performing their usual pre-show soundcheck, working out all the kinks before they kicked off their first ever two-day fest. For those who weren’t lucky enough to be in Atlantic City to experience Orion, the band released both nights’ performances as downloads via LiveMetallica.com . While those cost money to download, Metallica has now released that Friday soundcheck as a free download . The soundcheck includes the aforementioned ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Hell and Back’ from the ‘Beyond Magnetic’ EP and the instrumental ‘The Call of Ktulu.’ With this being a soundcheck, the band was not playing as serious as they would during an actual live performance. This is obvious when frontman James Hetfield, while jamming on ‘Creeping Death,’ decides to skip out on singing the first verse. This looseness provides a unique listening experience for ‘Tallica fans, making this a download you won’t want to miss. Orion Music + More was held at Bader Field in Atlantic City on June 23 and 24, 2012. It was Metallica’s first music festival that they created and the band has promised to turn it into an annual tradition. Download Metallica’s Orion Music + More Soundcheck here.
