HIM Unveil ‘Tears on Tape’ Album Art

Razor & Tie HIM continue to give a little bit more as they get closer to the release of their upcoming ‘ Tears on Tape ‘ album. The band’s website , which has featured a clock splash page for a good portion of the past month, has finally changed to feature a horned art piece, complete with the band’s “heartagram” logo and an empty box. However, fans who type in the words “Tears on Tape” into the box will get a quick flash of the album’s new cover art. What appears is a snake who has wound itself around in a circle with symbols on the body throughout. In the middle of the of the circular snake is the band’s “Heartagram” logo, while outside of the snake piece is blocked artwork that looks similar to the waves of an ocean. You can see the final piece to your left. HIM recently announced an April 30 street date for their eighth studio album. Frontman Ville Valo stated about the upcoming disc, “‘Tears on Tape’ is going to be really organic, straight-in-your-face, super melancholy bulls— [Laughs]. It’s going to be something nobody’s heard before. I’m really happy about it. It sounds great. Remember the soundtrack for ‘Twin Peaks’ that Angelo Badalamenti did? It’s got that similar forlorn, melancholy quality but mixed up with Motörhead. That’s where we’re at! We’re really happy. It’s got that dreamlike quality. It’s like Roy Orbison meeting Metallica.” The band will make their way to the States to promote the effort this spring. Dates for the 2013 North American tour can be seen here . Anthrax / Slayer Fill-in Drummer Cites Charlie Benante + Dave Lombardo as Big Influences

Facebook: Jon Dette Drummer Jon Dette’s name has been surfacing a lot more in the news lately as he’s landed a pair of high profile fill-in gigs for Anthrax and Slayer , two acts he’s played with previously. Dette recently spoke with ‘The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show’ at the NAMM Convention (video below) just weeks before his offers to join Anthrax and Slayer for dates became wide public knowledge. Dette, who is mostly known for his work with Testament , will sit behind the kit for both Anthrax and Slayer on each band’s respective tours of Australia and he says there’s nothing but respect for the two men whose chair he’ll be filling in the coming months. He explained, “ Charlie [Benante] is one of my biggest influences ever, next to [Dave] Lombardo .” The drummer first sat in with Anthrax last year , taking over for Shadows Fall ‘s Jason Bittner when Benante was unable to tour. The Anthrax skinbeater personally called Dette to fill in, and the drummer recalls, “It was kind of a surreal moment for me to get a call like that, saying, ‘Hey can you help me out?’ Which of course I said, ‘Absolutely.’ I just went and did a Europe tour with Anthrax and Motorhead and now I’m getting ready to actually head off to India and Australia with them in February and March.” As for Slayer, Dette’s stint with the band came between Paul Bostaph and the return of Dave Lombardo behind the kit. He recalls, “Slayer is one of those bands I’ve been playing forever, and so it was so natural, and I think we really felt that when we were in a room together.” Speaking about his past experience, he added, “[There were] so many business things that I got to learn — just the music business in general, good and bad. But, again, just to have the opportunity to play for one of my all-time favorite bands and see the back of their heads every night … I’d like to think I did it justice at the time I was with the band and it was just an amazing experience.” Watch Jon Dette Discuss His History With Anthrax + Slayer [button href=”http://loudwire.com/decibel-magazine-tour-2013-must-see-metal-concerts/” title=”Next: Check Out 2013’s Must-See Metal Concerts” align=”center”]

Ailing Meshuggah Frontman Jens Kidman Returns for New York Show

Nuclear Blast Records Meshuggah were back at full strength Friday night (Feb. 15) in New York, even if frontman Jens Kidman was still a bit under the weather. The vocalist has been suffering from the flu and recently had to miss a couple of the band’s shows , but he triumphantly returned for the New York performance. Though Meshuggah’s voice was conspicuously absent over the past week, the band was not. The group got through their scheduled performances placing a cardboard cutout of Kidman on the stage and requesting that the audience members provide the singing for the evening while the band delivered their usual pummeling passion during the sets. Following his return to the stage Friday night, Kidman took to Facebook and posted the following message: New York! Thanks to all of you for the amazing support tonight. It has truly been some rough days for me, but I refuse to let you guys down. You rule and you never disappoint!! Hats off, /Jens Meshuggah’s Marten Hagstrom admitted that playing without Kidman was a unique experience. Speaking to the Village Voice , he explained, “The way it sounds is not that different … but it’s more the way you feel walking up onstage, not seeing the entire band, because we’ve never done this before. You’re used to being that five-piece unit, walking up and doing this together. But there’s no use in complaining about it. The only thing we can do is try to make the most out of it. We’ve travelled over here now. A lot of places we play on this tour we haven’t really played for a long time, so canceling is not an option.” It’s expected that Kidman will be able to continue with the band after returning to the stage Friday. The group’s remaining dates on the trek can be seen here . Korn Guitarist Munky Optimistic for Permanent Reunion With Brian ‘Head’ Welch

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It’s no secret many Korn fans were bummed when Brian ‘Head’ Welch left the band, but he is set to reunite with the group for a couple of shows in 2013 after playing a one-off gig at the Carolina Rebellion festival this past year. ‘Head’ is set to join Korn for their dates at next year’s German rock festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park. The gigs will be his first full sets with the band since 2004. Loudwire had the opportunity to catch up with guitarist Munky  on last week’s ShipRocked cruise, and he talked all about his excitement for the upcoming German Festival dates and jamming out with ‘Head.’ Munky also expressed his optimism for ‘Head’ eventually rejoining Korn permanently, but makes it clear that they don’t want to rush anything and still have a long road ahead of them. “He’s our brother, to be able to have him onstage with us is a great thing. He’s one of the members of the band that helped define this sound.” Munky Talks About Reunion With Head  [button href=”http://loudwire.com/korn-welcome-back-guitarist-brian-head-welch-for-two-2013-shows/” title=”Next: Korn to Reunite With Head for Two Germany Gigs in 2012″ align=”center”]

3 Doors Down: The Story Behind the ‘Duck and Run’ Video – Exclusive Premiere

Rick Diamond, Getty Images 3 Doors Down have enjoyed a lot of great times on the road, and as they approach the release of their upcoming ‘ Greatest Hits ‘ album, the band is reflecting on their past in a series of video vignettes. Loudwire is proud to bring you the vignette with the band members reflecting on the ‘Duck and Run’ video that shows their life on the road perhaps better than any clip they’ve released. Singer Brad Arnold , guitarist Chris Henderson, and bassist Todd Harrell gathered to offer the insights on the clip, which Harrell says was probably one of his favorites videos they ever shot. Henderson and Arnold joke around as well about getting used to having a camera crew around at all times and how normal it became after a while. The vignette can be seen below. ‘Duck and Run,’ which just continued the breakout success of the band’s debut disc ‘The Better Life,’ is one of many favorites on the ‘Greatest Hits’ disc. The compilation, due Nov. 19, also features standouts like ‘When I’m Gone,’ ‘Kryptonite,’ ‘It’s Not My Time,’ and ‘Here Without You,’ along with the new single ‘ One Light .’ Fans can currently pre-order the album here . 3 Doors Down are getting ready to hit the road, and will kick off a co-headlining U.S. tour with Daughtry on Nov. 17 at their ninth annual ‘ The Better Life ‘ foundation benefit in Tunica, Miss. Metallica Offer Free Download of Orion Music + More Soundcheck

Donald Kravitz, Getty Images When we arrived at Bader Field the day before Metallica ‘s Orion Music + More festival, we were greeted with the band rocking out to one of our favorite tunes, ‘Creeping Death.’ It turned out that they were performing their usual pre-show soundcheck, working out all the kinks before they kicked off their first ever two-day fest. For those who weren’t lucky enough to be in Atlantic City to experience Orion, the band released both nights’ performances as downloads via LiveMetallica.com . While those cost money to download, Metallica has now released that Friday soundcheck as a free download . The soundcheck includes the aforementioned ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Hell and Back’ from the ‘Beyond Magnetic’ EP and the instrumental ‘The Call of Ktulu.’ With this being a soundcheck, the band was not playing as serious as they would during an actual live performance. This is obvious when frontman James Hetfield, while jamming on ‘Creeping Death,’ decides to skip out on singing the first verse. This looseness provides a unique listening experience for ‘Tallica fans, making this a download you won’t want to miss. Orion Music + More was held at Bader Field in Atlantic City on June 23 and 24, 2012. It was Metallica’s first music festival that they created and the band has promised to turn it into an annual tradition. Download Metallica’s Orion Music + More Soundcheck here.
