Metallica Support Virginia Tech ‘Enter Sandman’ Shirts for Morgan Harrington Scholarship Fund

Virginia Tech Metallica are one of the most stringent bands when it comes to usage of their trademark, which makes the new Virginia Tech ‘Enter Sandman’ shirts something truly special. The group gave the school permission to print the shirts with the idea that the money raised would go to the Morgan Harrington Scholarship Fund. Harrington was a Virginia Tech student who went missing after attending a Metallica concert at John Paul Jones Arena in October 2009. After several months of searching, her body was found on an Albemarle County farm in January 2010. Her killer still remains at large. The group initially put up a significant reward when Harrington went missing and even though her body was discovered, the band have continued their involvement in the search for her killer. Earlier this year, singer James Hetfield filmed a new PSA describing the murder and showing a sketch of the suspect in question while seeking any new information. NBC’s WVIR-TV reports that so far, sales of the shirt have raised $17,000 and Virginia Tech officials say they hope to make the shirt available to the public at the beginning of every football season. The shirts are currently available for order in both long-sleeve and short-sleeve via the Virginia Tech bookstore. To learn more about the Morgan Harrington Scholarship Fund, click here . Mark Tremonti Envisions Wolfgang Van Halen Recording With His Band

Fernando Leon / Kevin Winter, Getty Images Wolfgang Van Halen was definitely thrown into the fire, being called upon to play bass for Tremonti a day before the band’s first show of their fall tour, but it looks like things are working out so well that his involvement will continue beyond their current trek. Mark Tremonti tells the Metal Shrine blog, “We’ve already talked about [recording] and we look forward to it. I think it’ll add a whole other element to this band.” The guitarist was very complimentary of his new bassist, who came on board after his longtime Creed and Alter Bridge cohort Brian Marshall had to exit to deal with some personal issues. Tremonti says of Wolfgang, “He’s a very positive person and good to be around and an incredibly talented musician. Things have been going well.” The guitarist says that things have a weird way of working out, and Van Halen’s entrance into the band was not the first time he was actually considered for the group. The guitarist says, “We had talked about having him being a part of the band early on, but Van Halen got back together and did a nine-month tour together and it was right in the window when we needed to do this, so we moved on without him. Eric Friedman tracked the bass on the record, and then we started touring and we had Brian Marshall playing bass with us, and then something came up at the last minute with Brian and it just so happened that Wolfgang was in town. I gave him a shout and he came right over and jumped on board.” In a recent video interview , Wolfgang admitted that even though he was a last minute addition to the lineup, he was definitely familiar with the music. The bassist says he was hanging out in New Jersey with Sevendust at the same time that Tremonti was tracking his disc, and got to know the band pretty well. Corey Taylor Talks About His Near Involvement in Anthrax’s ‘Worship Music’

Adam Bettcher, Getty Images ? In a recent interview with Radio Metal , Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor  recalls the time he was asked to contribute vocals to Anthrax’s critically acclaimed 2011 album ‘Worship Music’ prior to the thrash metal veterans’ reunion with singer Joey Belladonna. A few years back, Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson departed the band after ‘Worship Music’ was recorded. It was then assumed that John Bush would re-record the vocals on the album, but he ended up parting ways with the band, as well. ‘Worship Music’ ended up being re-recorded with Belladonna handling vocals and reworking some of the lyrics from the scrapped version. However, prior to the Belladonna reunion, Taylor was asked to help out, but his record label wouldn’t let him. “I didn’t record anything with Anthrax, actually,” Taylor explains. “It’s one of those things that I would have loved to do, but never had the chance to do it. When they sent me some riffs and some music they had done, I thought it would be fun, not only as a friend but as a fan too, to see where the demos could go after my involvement.” Taylor continues, “But my label forced me out of this project so I wasn’t able to do it. Then, I went to do [ Slipknot ‘s] ‘All Hope Is Gone’ and Anthrax called Joey Belladonna back. After hearing ‘Worship Music’, I really think it’s their best record. Although I didn’t record anything with them, I told them that I would love to help them in writing stuff in the future. …At first, I was really mad about it, but I let it go after a while. But it would have been interesting to see what Anthrax and I could have done, for sure.” In the same interview, Taylor talks  Stone Sour ‘s upcoming album, ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ? (due Oct. 22) and its follow-up ‘Part 2′ (due in 2013). “We had a lot of fun doing this,’ remarks Taylor. “Part Two is a wonderful difference from Part One: it wasn’t just getting together and re-recording some stuff on Part One. I’m really excited about it: the songs we’ve written are above the best stuff we’ve ever made and can’t wait for people to hear it all put together.” Stone Sour recently released a snippet of the track ‘The Travelers, Pt. 1.’ Listen below.
