System of a Down Unveil First Tour Dates of 2013

Facebook: System of a Down System of a Down fans have been patient in recent years, with the group spending a lot of time on hiatus pursuing other musical avenues. Though the band has reunited for a series of shows over the past two years, there has been no talk about future albums or dates … until now. System have revealed their first two performances of 2013 , set to take place in August. The band has signed on to play Sweden’s Getaway Rock Festival on Aug. 9 and will also perform at the Frequency Festival in Austria on Aug. 16. Tickets for both events are currently available . At present, it is not known if these shows will lead to an extended run of performances, but the announcement of the two festivals provides a ray of hope. However, expectations should be tempered as the group’s members have other projects in the works for 2013 as well. Singer Serj Tankian released his ‘ Harakiri ‘ solo album last year and also spent time raising funds to perform his ‘ Orca ‘ symphony piece. However, at last check he was still composing a score for the ‘ Morning Star ‘ video game and had music from two side projects — Fuktronic and Jazziz Christ — in the works. Meanwhile, the website of guitarist Daron Malakian ‘s Scars on Broadway  band teases that a new EP and album are coming soon. When pressed about new System of a Down music last year, Tankian told Loudwire , “It’s a good question and the answer is the same — we haven’t made plans of recording the new record as of yet. When we do, everyone will know. We haven’t really discussed another record as of now with any of the guys really. It’s just something that when it’s the right time, we’ll do it.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/system-of-a-down-toxicity-top-21st-century-metal-songs/” title=”Next: System of a Down – Top 21st Century Metal Songs” align=”center”]

Behemoth Frontman Nergal Meets Bone Marrow Donor Who Saved His Life

Photo by KOBARU Behemoth frontman Adam ‘Nergal’ Darski is one of metal’s most inspirational figures. After the black metal mastermind was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, Nergal beat down an early mortality in heroic fashion. Now, with ever-improving health, Nergal was finally given the opportunity to meet the bone marrow donor who saved his life. “Thank you for life,” Nergal expressed to 25-year-old Gregory Kite upon meeting him for the first time. The black metal musician originally had no idea who his bone marrow donor was, but after two years of publicly stating that he wanted to meet his savior, it finally happened earlier today (Dec. 17). “The bottom line is that we won life, there are people, doctors who are struggling and want to win this life,” says Nergal, according to Polish news source tvn24.pl . “This is the core of everything.” Kite also spoke of the donor process that saved Nergal. “I had a series of tests,” begins Kite. “I passed it successfully. It turned out that I could give stem cells. The cell transfer procedure lasted several hours. It was painless.” Behemoth currently have only two tour dates scheduled for 2013, a slot at Impactfest in Warsaw, Poland and the See-Rock Festival in Graz, Austria, headlined by Iron Maiden , Slayer , Motorhead and more. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It’s been a busy year for metal band Huntress with the release of their debut album ‘Spell Eater.’ In a new video, premiering right here on Loudwire, the band’s frontwoman Jill Janus talks all about the music of Huntress and their creative process. “Huntress is true heavy metal. We stay true to the roots of heavy metal, it’s fast, it’s vicious but melodic,” says Janus. “That’s the way that we write, we want to be melodic in all of our songwriting, the thrash elements, the elements of black metal and death metal and I wail. That’s what I do, I scream.” Janus also reflects on when she first met her current bandmates: “When I came to Los Angeles, I met a band named Professor and saw them perform and immediately I knew, I knew that we needed to join forces – so I begged them to listen to a demo that I had written. We rehearsed once and after that we decided to team up and Huntress was birthed.” Anyone who has seen the band live or watched their videos knows the intensity of Huntress. The song ‘Spell Eater’ was their lead single off of the debut record and fans have been hooked ever since. Check out a list of the band’s European tour dates below. Extreme Metal Olympics: Group 4, Quarter Finals

Group 4 of the Extreme Metal Olympics has featured heavier-than-hell bands from countries such as Belgium, Austria, Japan and Canada. The eight bands within Group 4 have been diminished into two Quarter-Finalists, one of who will win their bracket and move on to the Semi Finals. In perhaps the most fascinating upset of the Extreme Metal Olympics so far, Japanese metal enigmas Dir En Grey defeated one of the most
