Casting Call: Who Should Play Nirvana in a Movie?

Universal Music Few bands have made quite the impact that Nirvana did when they exploded onto the scene in the early ’90s. Led by frontman Kurt Cobain and featuring the talents of drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic , Nirvana revolutionized rock music with their 1991 sophomore album, ‘Nevermind.’ Tragically, Cobain took his own life in 1994, but their music and legacy lives on, making them the perfect subject for a big-screen biopic. But who should play the iconic rockers in a movie? We think we’ve found three very strong candidates to portray the members of Nirvana. Check them out below: Kurt Cobain Played by Joe Anderson Frank Micelotta, Getty Images / IMDB Talk about an uncanny resemblance! Actor Joe Anderson is the spitting image of the late, great Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. While you may have seen Anderson in the Liam Neeson film ‘The Grey’ or the TV series ‘The River,’ he remains relatively unknown, making him a perfect candidate to play the enigmatic Cobain. That said, it’s no easy task portraying a troubled musical genius that changed the face of rock music forever. ? Dave Grohl Played by Efren Ramirez Universal / Alberto E. Rodriguez, Getty Images Along with being an extremely talented drummer, Dave Grohl is one of rock music’s resident funnymen. He was always the jovial member of Nirvana, and has continued to show his sense of humor as the frontman of Foo Fighters. In addition to having similar facial features as Grohl, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ actor Efren Ramirez can definitely display the musician’s comedic side. So, we say ‘Vote for Pedro’ to play Dave Grohl in the Nirvana movie. ? Krist Novoselic Played by Jason Segel Jeff Kravitz / Jason Merritt, Getty Images The first qualification to play the 6-foot, 6-inch Krist Novoselic is that you gotta be tall. And at 6 foot, 4 inches, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor Jason Segel definitely fits the bill, as he also resembles Novoselic. Segel has been known to play a bit of a klutzy oaf in movies, and that experience will come in handy when he re-enacts the scene of Novoselic tossing his bass in the air at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards and having it land on his face. Who do you think should play the members of Nirvana if a biopic was made about them? Let us know in the comments section below. Kurt Cobain Documentary Filmmaker Inspired by ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ Movie

Frank Micelotta, Getty Images A new Kurt Cobain documentary film is currently being planned for a 2014 release, and it aims to delve into the true spirit of the late  Nirvana frontman. As popular as Cobain remains, the musician’s life continues to be somewhat of an enigma even among his most rabid fans. Now, the director of the recent Rolling Stones documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ has accepted the challenge to reveal the true nature of Cobain. ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ was released in 2012, receiving an impressive amount of critical acclaim and securing a 92 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes . Director Brett Morgen now seeks to create another success with the yet-untitled Kurt Cobain project. “If you think about Kurt, he’s a contradiction,” Morgen tells NME . “He could be sincere and sentimental, and also ironic and sarcastic. He was sweet and sour. He was incredibly funny too, and the film has to reflect his sprit.” Morgen adds, “The thing about him people might not know too is that he was an incredible visual artist and left behind a treasure chest of comic books, paintings, Super8 films, all sorts. We’re hoping the Cobain film, that’ll hopefully be released in 2014, will be this generation’s ‘The Wall’ – a mix of animation and live action that’ll allow the audience to experience Kurt in a way they never have before. It’s very ambitious.” As word of the Cobain documentary first broke, it was reported that Hole frontwoman and Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love would be a part of the film’s creation. Although Morgen stated that Love originally brought him into the project, it has been confirmed that Love will not be involved in the filmmaking process. Frances Bean Cobain ‘Creeped Out’ by Tattoo of Her Face

Thomas Pollard / Rocky Schenck Who could blame Frances Bean Cobain for being a little weirded out after one of her Twitter followers alerted her to the fact that someone had gotten a tattoo of one of her recent photo spread pictures? But the offspring of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole vocalist Courtney Love also had some kind words to say about the tattoo artist who created the fresh ink as well. The tattoo imagery was initially posted on Twitter by Thomas Pollard, who wrote, “Done this smoking hot chick today… Haha! Great fun! Will get a better photo when it’s all healed…” In a series of tweets, Cobain expressed her equal admiration for the artwork that went into the tattoo creation but also the awkwardness knowing that her image was now on someone’s body: @ kittycordaiy whoa. That’s my face permenently on someone’s body. I’ve had my art tattooed on ppl but never my face #kindacoolkindaawkward — Frances Bean Cobain(@alka_seltzer666) December 1, 2012 @ kittycordaiy he did portray my hands perfectly though. Talented dude. — Frances Bean Cobain(@alka_seltzer666) December 1, 2012 @ kittycordaiy definitely a little creeped out but not by him he was just doing his job. It’s cool, I’ve given up trying to understand humans — Frances Bean Cobain(@alka_seltzer666) December 1, 2012 The picture that the tattoo was based on came from a photo spread of Frances Bean taken by Rocky Schenck last year. See more pictures from that spread here . In a separate Twitter discussion, Cobain discussed her affinity for attracting “crazies.” Her tweets read: Why am I a magnet for crazies? I’ll be minding my own business & they’ll always find me. I think it’s a genetic predisposition (thanks mom) — Frances Bean Cobain(@alka_seltzer666) November 29, 2012 @ sawacloud im not just talking nirvana/hole/Internet crazies. I’m talking crazies of the fucking world. they’re drawn to me. tis unfortunate — Frances Bean Cobain(@alka_seltzer666) November 29, 2012 Cobain has reason to be cautious about her privacy. She was recently in the headlines when her house was broken into . She would later tweet that the man that was arrested for breaking in was apparently there to attempt to kill her fiancé . Courtney Love Working on Kurt Cobain Documentary With Acclaimed Filmmaker

Pier Marco Tacca / Frank Micelotta, Getty Images Courtney Love  has set the wheels in motion on a documentary about her late husband Kurt Cobain . She has reached out to filmmaker Brett Morgen , the man behind the current  Rolling Stones  documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane,’ to oversee a project based on the life of the late  Nirvana  frontman Morgen told the New York Post’s Page Six that he’s already planning out his Cobain documentary with the blessing of Love. He explained, “Courtney is the one that brought me into this. We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now.” The documentarian went on to add, “Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and filmmaker. So we are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography — as if Kurt was around and making a film about his life.” There were recent rumors that Love was interested in telling Cobain’s story on Broadway or as part of a musical film, but she later shot down talk of those projects happening.
