Guns N’ Roses Joined Onstage by Izzy Stradlin During Final Two Las Vegas Residency Shows

Jason Merritt / Scott Harrison, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses just completed their ‘Appetite for Democracy’ residency in Las Vegas on Nov. 24, and fans who attended the final two shows were gifted with an pleasant surprise. Former GN’R guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined the band onstage for a number of songs throughout the band’s sets, including ’14 Years,’ ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,’ Used to Love Her’ and ‘Paradise City.’ It’s difficult to gauge the relationship between Stradlin and GN’R singer Axl Rose is in modern times, but there seems to be a mutual admiration for one another. In May 2006, Stradlin joined GN’R onstage in New York City for the first time in 13 years, and earlier this year, Stradlin performed with Guns at London’s O2 Arena. It should be noted that both Rose and Stradlin skipping Guns N’ Roses’ 2012 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Known to be somewhat of a recluse in his personal life, Stradlin thrilled die-hard GN’R fans during the Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 Vegas dates, playing six tracks during one show and five the following day. Check out video footage of ’14 Years’ below. Stradlin has released 11 studio albums since 1992, with his most recent musical contribution being the new single ‘ Baby-Rann .’ Could Stradlin’s increasingly frequent GN’R live cameos lead to something monumental in the future? We’ll be watching for it, so stay tuned as more Guns N’ Roses news continues to break. Nine-Year-Old Girl Sings With Guns N’ Roses During Las Vegas Soundcheck

Chris McKay, Getty Images The Guns N’ Roses Las Vegas residency was cool as it was, but it got a little cooler this past week for one very young fan. Video footage has surfaced of the band welcoming a nine-year-old girl named Chloe, who lent her vocals to the band’s ‘Catcher in the Rye’ while the band soundchecked for their Nov. 21st performance. The clip, with low quality audio, can be seen below. The band’s Las Vegas run has widely been regarded as a success, with the group crafting their own set lists exclusively for each show. In addition to young Chloe’s pre-show guest appearance, the Nov. 21 date proved special for another reason. Guns N’ Roses reportedly taped part of the show in 3D , presumably for a future concert video release. During the epic performance, the band rocked through many of their classics, along with covering Pink Floyd ‘s ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)’ and Neil Young ‘s ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down.’ The band’s 12-date residency closed out last night (Nov. 24) at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Guns N’ Roses Film Vegas ‘Appetite for Democracy’ Residency Show in 3D

Theo Wargo, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses are gearing up to close out their 12-show ‘Appetite for Democracy’ residency at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas this weekend (Nov. 24.) For fans that weren’t able to make it out to one of the special shows, there may still be a way to check it out in the near future, thanks to modern technology. According to a tweet from the band , the concert on Wednesday, Nov. 21 was recorded as part of a special 3D taping, presumably for a future release. Known for their lengthy shows, Guns N’ Roses did not disappoint on this particular night. The set list was a monstrous, 30-plus song rock-a-thon featuring all the usual suspects from ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Mr. Brownstone,’ and ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ to covers like Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)’ and Neil Young’s ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down.’ A fan posted detailed listing of the set list and all the solos can be seen here . Although the band hasn’t commented on the plans for the 3D taping yet, they were already checking out the footage the following day, posting a tweet with a photo of the different camera angles, saying, “3D 2D looks like 10 cameras on this Street Of Dreams.” Guns N’ Roses are the second rock band to take up residency at the Hard Rock Hotel, following in the footsteps of Motley Crue who broke ground on the concept last February. Def Leppard also recently announced that they’ll be the next band to move into the Strip with a run in 2013. Izzy Stradlin Releases New Single ‘Baby-Rann’

YouTube It’s been a couple of years since we were treated to new music from Izzy Stradlin , but the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist isn’t resting on his laurels — in fact, he has unleashed a YouTube video of a new single, titled ‘Baby-Rann.’ A scorching uptempo rocker featuring a tasty solo from lead guitarist Rick Richards (who co-founded the Georgia Satellites before serving time in Izzy’s band the Ju Ju Hounds), ‘Baby-Rann’ finds Stradlin working with a crew that includes bassist J.T. Longoria and former Reverend Horton Heat drummer Taz Bentley. The video, which is can be seen below, was edited by Ed Shiers after being filmed at L.A.’s legendary Ocean Way Studios earlier this month. ‘Baby-Rann’ caps a year of sporadic activity for Stradlin, who skipped out on Guns N’ Roses’ induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April but turned up on the road with GN’R for a couple of London concerts in May. Perhaps, it serves as the first sign of a new album from the guitarist, who released a whopping five albums between 2007-10, but has been relatively quiet since putting out the iTunes-only ‘Wave of Heat’ in July of that year. Duff McKagan Offers Advice for Band Survival on the Road

Kevin Winter, Getty Images It’s great to jam out with your buddies, but you really find out a lot about a person when you spend every waking hour with them on the road and even the best of friends can start irritating each other. Luckily, Duff McKagan , who knows a thing or two about performing with some rather unique personalities, has offered a few tips for survival on the road in his latest Seattle Weekly column. McKagan, who has been part of combustible acts like Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver , says in introducing his 10-point list, “There is definitely an art to the dance that is being in a band. All kinds of crap can happen if band members let some of the following things go unattended. As an aside, it is healthy for a band’s creative juices to have a bit of a rub within the band. The release of tension onstage can be magical.” With that said, McKagan’s guide to surviving in a touring band is as follows: 1. Don’t be a dick. Yes. That simple. 2. Get used to having little to no personal space for weeks at a time. A tour bus or a van, and traveling through airports together, can be small enough, but add small backstage dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, and studio control and you have the condition for someone in your band to blow their top. 3. Personal hygiene. (see #2) 4. Respect off-limits places. For example, when you draw the curtains to your bunk on the bus, no one should be allowed to f— with you. No punching in the dick, even. Each others’ girlfriends/wives/husbands/boyfriends are also off-limits. 5. Share everything. Clothes, chocolate, drugs, whatever. If it’s expendable, it is a “band” item. 6. Hug it out. Being in a band is the best place I can think of to be as up-front as possible. If you let something stew, it’ll grow into a mountain of nonsensical black mud in no time. 7. Read books and keep informed. The conversation can get old if you don’t have some good new topics to bring to the table. Gossip and c–k-talk only go so far. 8. Keep in touch with Mama Kin. Yes, definitely phone home and text as much as possible. It keeps one a bit sane, and leaves one with at least a modicum of a cornerstone. 9. Write a riff. Keep bringing fresh ideas to your band. 10. Don’t poo in the same room that someone else is eating in. Unless of course said eater gives the “poo OK.” If a “poo OK” is granted, you have a band that will NEVER break up! These days, McKagan has more control over how things play out as a touring member and leader of Duff McKagan’s Loaded . The bassist has also become a well-respected columnist, and an archive of his Seattle Weekly pieces can be viewed here . Guns N’ Roses Kick Off Las Vegas Residency on Halloween Night

Chris McKay, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses have kicked off their nearly monthlong residency in Las Vegas. Beginning on Halloween night, the band ripped through a set where singer Axl Rose gave a far greater performance than he has at recent shows. After a highly criticized performance by Axl Rose at Neil Young’s annual Bridge School benefit show, which was widely distributed online at the expense of Rose, the singer proved that he can still deliver a quality vocal show at this first Vegas show. Additionally, the city of Las Vegas celebrated the Guns N’ Roses residency by temporarily renaming Paradise Road as Paradise City Road . The band ripped through a 29-song set that included covers of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2′ and Neil Young’s ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down.’ The show also allowed band members Tommy Stinson and Bumblefoot to take lead vocals on their own original songs. Guns N’ Roses’ residency at the Joint Las Vegas continues through Nov. 24. Axl Rose on Feud With Slash + Duff McKagan: I’m Surviving This War, Not the One Who Created It

Robert Cianflone, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose is certainly one of the most beloved, but also detested musicians in rock history. It’s almost impossible to run into anyone who doesn’t have an opinion on Rose as a human being, but the GN’R icon recently partook in an interview that went pretty deep into the mind of one of rock’s most polarizing figures. In Rose’s in-depth interview with USA Today , the singer attributed the lengthy process of writing the ‘Chinese Democracy’ album to mental abuse caused by former Guns guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan . “[Slash and McKagan] did more damage to my ability as a writer,” claims Rose. “To those three, it was all crap. It beat me down so much. At the time of the [‘Use Your Illusion’] tours, Slash and Duff said, ‘You’re an idiot, you’re a loser.’ I didn’t write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it’s right to be venting and when you’re digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on ‘Chinese’ took a long time.” Rose also explored the idea of how the classic GN’R lineup could have lasted longer. “Maybe if we could have worked together in the way ‘Appetite’ was put together. I was really naïve,” says the singer. “I thought the success of that record would bring everyone together more. It did the exact opposite. They got success and wanted to run in their own directions. I thought they’d go, ‘Whoa, it did work.’ But they wanted to do their own huge bigger success off of Guns.” On the possibility of a truce amongst the classic members, Rose comments, “I feel that ball’s not in my court. I’m surviving this war, not the one who created this war.” Additionally, when asked about fans who consider the current Guns N’ Roses lineup as illegitimate, the singer simply responded, “They can think whatever they want. I’m not interested in their opinions.” Rose says that the band is currently writing and working on their next release, and added, “[The next album] will come out sooner.” Check out the full Axl Rose interview at USAToday.com .
