YouTube There’s something to be said for moving on from heartbreak, and Otherwise capture that spirit in their most recent single, ‘I Don’t Apologize (1000 Pictures).’ If you didn’t get that from hearing the lyrics initially, the band has now provided a video that spells it out even further. The new clip for ‘I Don’t Apologize’ features a man who has taken a trip to the desert where there’s a lone, solitary leafless tree. As he stands by himself, he begins thumbing through photos taken with his ex, reflecting on some of the good times had and with each photo, he places it with a clothespin on one of the brittle branches. But as we see, the good times didn’t last and the love of his life was cheating on him, so each photo placed upon the tree serves as a way of shedding his past and moving on. If you follow the lyrics of the song, you can guess the fate of the aforementioned tree and the photos that adorn it. Otherwise are currently touring in support of their debut album, ‘True Love Never Dies.’ The band can be seen opening shows for Stone Sour and Papa Roach on their current North American tour leg. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Soundgarden continued their resurgence this week with two sold out shows at Hammerstein Ballroom on Tuesday (Jan. 22) and Wednesday (Jan. 23). During the Tuesday night show that we attended, the grunge legends rocked the venue with a massive setlist that spanned their entire discography, including classic favorites and new tracks off their latest album ‘King Animal.’ Frontman Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron are masters of their instruments and remain a powerful force onstage. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Los Angeles-based outfit Hollywood Undead kicked off the weekend by bringing their fusion of hip-hop and rock to a sold out crowd at New York City’s Gramercy Theater on Friday (Jan.18). The band played without an opening act as they took the stage to their breakout hit, ‘Undead,’ which got their fans bouncing and singing. Their hour-and-a-half long set consisted of 18 tracks, including cuts from their latest record ‘ Notes From the Underground ’ such as ‘Another Way Out’ and ‘Dead Bite.’ One of the cooler parts of the evening was the dueling drum solos between touring drummer Daren Pfeifer and percussionist Da Kurlzz. Surprisingly the band did not perform their past single ‘Levitate,’ but they did hype up the crowd with fan favorites like ‘My Town,’ ‘California,’ ‘Paradise Lost’ and ‘Hear Me Now.’ When the band teased the crowd by walking off stage after ‘Hear Me Now,’ the “One more song” chants turned into “Two More Songs” chants and Hollywood Undead gave fans just that. They performed an encore consisting of ‘Everywhere I Go’ and their lead single, ‘ We Are ,’ from their new record. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Underoath performed their second show at Irving Plaza this week and their final date ever in New York City Thursday night (Jan. 17) as part of their farewell tour. The show also featured a strong support lineup, with engaging sets from mewithoutYou, As Cities Burn and Letlive . The evening began with openers Letlive, who will be headlining shows of their own soon enough. With the band’s powerful songs and undeniable stage presence, Letlive performed as if it were their last show in New York City (thankfully it’s not). Frontman Jason Aalon Butler dove into the crowd numerous times and even made his way onto the balcony where he was holding on for dear life while belting out lyrics. As Cities Burn followed with a high energy performance as they got fans singing and audience members crowd surfing. The pace slowed down when mewithoutYou took the stage. The Philadelphia-based outfit brought their indie and experimental sound to the line-up and vocalist Aaron Weiss had the grace of a ballerina onstage whether he was singing, hopping, playing accordion or the tambourine. As “Underoath” chants began to increase in volume, the band embraced the warm welcome the New York City crowed provided. They kicked off their set with three strong tracks — ‘Breathing in a New Mentality,’ ‘It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door’ and ‘In Division.’ Diehard fans also sang along to favorites such as ‘In Regards to Myself,’ ‘Paper Lung,’ ‘Reinventing Your Exit’ and numerous others. Even though frontman Spencer Chamberlain stated that he was feeling under the weather, he and the rest of the band gave a stellar performance that their New York fans won’t soon forget. Machinehead1.com Machine Head have built their fan base over a steadily strong career, but singer Robb Flynn still gets surprised by who some of his fans are. The rocker reveals in his latest journal that former baseball manager Tony LaRussa and his family have shown their fandom for his work in recent years, which is something that still blows him away. Flynn says, “Life has a funny way of playing out, how seemingly innocuous encounters can take you to place you never thought you’d go. Flash back to about a year and a half ago … I’m walking through Whole Foods in Walnut Creek, talking on the phone to my friend Tom when a lady and her daughter approach me wide-eyed. ‘Are you f—ing Robb Flynn?!’ … ‘I could be …’ They scream and make a big ‘ol to-do, ‘Oh my God, we’re huge fans, I love ‘The Blackening,’ I’m Tony LaRussa’s wife!’” Then, just last year when the band returned to play the Warfield in San Francisco, the LaRussa family came to the show. Flynn recalls, “My baseball fanatic dad FREAKS OUT, and Tony L blows my mind when he tells me that I ‘have so much charisma, he wishes he could bottle it and make his players drink it.’ Wow!!?? I’m not worthy!” After speaking some more, Flynn says they bonded over the fact that he got his dog from the Animal Rescue Foundation that LaRussa founded. The vocalist says he and LaRussa exchanged information and the manager reached out to him about attending his annual benefit. LaRussa also asked if he would perform as an anniversary gift for his metal-loving wife. The singer admits he was nervous, but says LaRussa’s intro was great. He recalls, “Tony LaRussa’s intro blew me up!! Dude rules. After that intro I could have farted for 10 minutes and people would have at least politely clapped. Did ‘Die Young’ first, went down good. I sang the end a lot better than at the Mitch [Lucker] benefit, and then came time for the debut of the acoustic version of ‘Darkness [Within],’ just me and an acoustic, no sing-alongs, no band to kick in the heavy — a new version I had never played live. It worked, it totally worked. I nailed most of it, was a little flat in some parts at the very end, but overall it felt good and I was proud of myself for taking up the challenge.” Flynn returned for the finale, joining all the evening’s performers and headliner Tony Orlando in taking on ‘Hey Jude’ with a little bit of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ thrown in to rock out. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Killswitch Engage have had an incredible year to say the least, on top of reuniting with original vocalist Jesse Leach , touring nonstop and recording a new record, the band celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their album ‘Alive or Just Breathing’ with a headlining tour. We had the recent pleasure of catching Killswitch Engage along with Shadows Fall and Acaro in Brooklyn, N.Y., at a sold-out show. Acaro kicked off the night with an incredible set, frontman Chris Harrell had complete command of the stage and when he wasn’t getting the mosh pit he wanted, the vocalist jumped into the crowd and started one himself. Guitarist Felipe Roa shredded it up in front of his family, who flew in all the way from Chile just to attend the show. Shadows Fall took the stage next and put on an explosive set – there’s nothing like seeing, and for many fans in front, feeling singer Brian Fair’s lengthy dreads whipping back and forth. Fans moshed around to tracks such as ‘The Light That Blinds,’ ‘Destroyer of Senses’ and ‘Still I Rise.’ The band also performed new tracks ‘Weight of the World’ and ‘Divide and Conquer’ off of their new record ‘Fire From the Sky.’ Killswitch Engage got a warm welcome from their New York fans. They not only performed ‘Alive or Just Breathing’ in full but they kicked off their stellar set with ‘A Bid Farewell’ and ‘Rose for Sharyn.’ Jesse Leach’s vocal abilities are out of this world and his lyric delivery is intense and extremely powerful. The entire band gave their full attention to fans as they worked the stage left and right. Of course, guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz showed off his toned legs by donning his infamous short shorts. He also teased fans and made hilarious faces, not to mention he entertained fans by doing some jumping jacks and push-ups while his guitar was being tuned. Killswitch ended their set with an invigorating performance of ‘My Curse’ and ‘End of Heartache’ which had fans crowd surfing and belting out lyrics word for word. This show was one of the best the Music Hall of Williamsburg has ever been graced with, as these bands rocked Brooklyn so hard, their sound resonated throughout all five boroughs. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Motionless In White literally shook the foundation of New York City’s Irving Plaza on Sunday night (Dec. 15), along with Chelsea Grin , Stick to Your Guns, The Witch Was Right and Upon This Dawning. It was a big night for Motionless In White, who stopped in New York City for their first North American headlining tour. Not one person in the venue was standing still during their set as fans went crazy as the band performed ‘Creatures,’ ‘Abigail,’ and ‘Immaculate Conception,’ among other tunes. Irving Plaza felt as if were about to cave in as fans moved with force as Motionless in White played new tracks such as ‘If It’s Dead We’ll Kill It,’ off of their latest release ‘Infamous.’ Earlier in the evening, Chelsea Grin took the stage and gave an energetic performance which had the crowd bouncing to songs such as ‘The Second Coming,’ ‘The Foolish One,’ ‘Recreant’ and ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,’ among others. Stick to Your Guns preached positive messages in between songs but during their performance fans voraciously crowd surfed so much that security guards could barely keep up with them. The Witch Was Right and Upon This Dawning also served as support for the night. The show as a whole gave off a Warped Tour like atmosphere inside the intimate space of Irving Plaza. Although Motionless In White’s 2012 headlining tour has wrapped up, the band is set to hit Europe with Asking Alexandria in 2013. Check out a full list of dates and countries here .
