Three Days Grace’s Brad Walst Joins Neuroblastoma Research Fundraiser

Ethan Miller, Getty Images Three Days Grace are usually pretty good about signing on for causes, but bassist Brad Walst has a personal reason for participating in the James Fund’s walk-run fundraiser for neuroblastoma research. His young son was diagnosed as having a cancerous neuroblastoma tumor several years ago. Walst will join the group of runners and walkers around the world in taking part in the international event on Oct. 28. He’s started a page where fans can sponsor his participation. It’s his goal to reach $3,000 in donations and at last check he’d raised 46 percent of the figure with just over $1,400 contributed. In the seven years the James Fund has been in existence over $275,000 has been raised for neuroblastoma research. Walst posted a photo of his son James rocking out at the Rockstar Uproar Tour earlier this year, along with his personal appeal for support. His message read: Hello Everyone… On October 28, 2012, I will be participating in the Walk/Run for The James Fund. Four years ago, my life was changed forever when I heard the dreaded news that my son James (who hadn’t even celebrated his second birthday yet) had neuroblastoma, one of the most devastating childhood cancers. When I look back on all that he has been through, it is still shocking to know that his tiny spine has been taken apart and put back together again (not once, but twice!) to rid his body of this awful disease. It has been over 3 years since his tumor has stabilized – James is one of the lucky ones. Not all children with neuroblastoma are as lucky, in fact the majority are not. This is the reason we support the James Fund. In the past 4 years the supporters of our team James Rocks! have raised over $65,000 for the Walk/Run! There are no words to express our extreme gratitude – THANK-YOU!! This year’s event will support a national Neuroblastoma Drug Discovery Project to discover new drugs to treat neuroblastoma. This project has many facets, from the lab bench to the clinic.?? There are no cures for neuroblastoma, and it is the goal of the Drug Discovery Project to discover an effective treatment to save our kids. Sincerely,? Metallica’s Robert Trujillo to Show Jaco Pastorius Film Clip at Bass Player Event

Theo Wargo, Getty Images / Facebook: Jaco Pastorius Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo is just about finished with the documentary honoring his idol, Jaco Pastorius, and he’s ready to share a bit of the film with a crowd that would truly enjoy it — the audience members at this weekend’s Bass Player LIVE! bash in Hollywood. Back in May, Trujillo revealed that he was financing the project on Pastorius , who is considered one of the most influential bassists in music history despite his battles with mental illness and his death at an early age. Trujillo said at the time, “Jaco was my hero growing up. Hearing him was like hearing Eddie Van Halen doing ‘Eruption’ for the first time. You thought, ‘What instrument is that?’ I love jazz fusion and branched out from there. But Jaco had an edge that far exceeded his jazz persona. He was funk, he was rock, he was soul, and his whole attitude was punk.” Trujillo has created a specially-edited advance clip of his documentary specifically for the Bass Player LIVE crowd. In addition, Pastorius’ family will be on hand to accept the bass great’s posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony. Other honorees at the two-day bash (Oct. 20-21) include Yes ‘ Chris Squire and Bob Marley’s Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who are also receiving Lifetime Achievement honors. Both musicians will perform during tonight’s concert and appear at the live clinic for interviews. The weekend will also give bass players a chance to check out the latest in gear and watch a few clinics, with Anthrax ‘s Frank Bello , Megadeth ‘s David Ellefson , Whitesnake ‘s Marco Mendoza all on hand to take part in the exhibitions. Korn’s Munky Unveils Fear and the Nervous System Documentary

Ethan Miller, Getty Images Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer has taken his experimental rock side project Fear and the Nervous System on the road for the first time, playing two shows over the weekend in California. He has also unveiled a documentary on the project (watch below). The band’s self-titled debut album was released last month, and the documentary features never-before-seen footage of 2007 jam sessions with Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion) and Billy Gould ( Faith No More ) that shaped the album. “Zac Baird (Korn touring keyboardist) and I had worked on a few ideas while touring with Korn,” Shaffer says. “So, when we started to record, those song ideas were our jumping off point. But, 90 percent of the album was created on the spot, then recorded. We were lucky to get the people we wanted to become involved with the project.” Rehearsal footage of Fear and the Nervous System preparing for last weekend’s kickoff of their first tour is also included. In addition to Shaffer, Baird, Wackerman and Gould, the band includes Repeater vocalist Steve Krolikowski and guitarist Leopold Ross. Fear and the Nervous System have two more shows scheduled next weekend. On Friday (Oct. 19), they will play in Bakersfield, Calif., and on Saturday (Oct. 20), they are in West Hollywood at the Roxy. Zakk Wylde Unveils Video Teaser For ‘Guitar Apprentice’ Instructional Video Series

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Zakk Wylde ’s new signature edition guitar instruction collection titled ‘Guitar Apprentice’ is now available exclusively at Guitar Centers in the U.S. as of Oct. 1 and now the leader of the Black Label Society has released a humorous clip to promote his rock ‘n’ roll lessons. Recorded live at Wylde’s on Black Vatican studio in Los Angeles, Calif. ‘Guitar Apprentice’ takes a song and methodically breaks it down to fifteen different levels of playing so anyone can follow along. Starting with one chord, users work their way up to playing all the guitar parts including all headbanging solos, but at their own pace. The set offers detailed explanations of all the details from signature rhythm patterns to tones and even pedals and gear. In the clip below Wylde barks out ‘This ain’t no video game!’ to the camera, but it actually was a video game that inspired the project. Wylde told MusicRadar.com that when the developers of the project approached him they asked him what he thought about the ‘Guitar Hero’ video franchise. “I said it was awesome,” Wylde said. “Who knows – you could have the next Jimmy Page or Dimebag or Yngwie coming out of that thing. Some kid starts out on that, and eventually he says, ‘Man, I want to get a real guitar.’ That’s what you want to happen. To me, anything that promotes the guitar is good.” Wylde also noted that this isn’t easy, so be prepared. “We’re talking from a very beginner to being about to play the solo to f—ing ‘Crazy Horse’,” Wylde explained. “And you can do it, too, but you have to put in the hours. You’ve got to practice and get your technique together. But it’s all there, man.” Head over to www.guitarapprentice.com for more information on the Zakk Wylde Signature Edition Guitar Apprentice. Corey Taylor Talks About His Near Involvement in Anthrax’s ‘Worship Music’

Adam Bettcher, Getty Images ? In a recent interview with Radio Metal , Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor  recalls the time he was asked to contribute vocals to Anthrax’s critically acclaimed 2011 album ‘Worship Music’ prior to the thrash metal veterans’ reunion with singer Joey Belladonna. A few years back, Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson departed the band after ‘Worship Music’ was recorded. It was then assumed that John Bush would re-record the vocals on the album, but he ended up parting ways with the band, as well. ‘Worship Music’ ended up being re-recorded with Belladonna handling vocals and reworking some of the lyrics from the scrapped version. However, prior to the Belladonna reunion, Taylor was asked to help out, but his record label wouldn’t let him. “I didn’t record anything with Anthrax, actually,” Taylor explains. “It’s one of those things that I would have loved to do, but never had the chance to do it. When they sent me some riffs and some music they had done, I thought it would be fun, not only as a friend but as a fan too, to see where the demos could go after my involvement.” Taylor continues, “But my label forced me out of this project so I wasn’t able to do it. Then, I went to do [ Slipknot ‘s] ‘All Hope Is Gone’ and Anthrax called Joey Belladonna back. After hearing ‘Worship Music’, I really think it’s their best record. Although I didn’t record anything with them, I told them that I would love to help them in writing stuff in the future. …At first, I was really mad about it, but I let it go after a while. But it would have been interesting to see what Anthrax and I could have done, for sure.” In the same interview, Taylor talks  Stone Sour ‘s upcoming album, ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ? (due Oct. 22) and its follow-up ‘Part 2′ (due in 2013). “We had a lot of fun doing this,’ remarks Taylor. “Part Two is a wonderful difference from Part One: it wasn’t just getting together and re-recording some stuff on Part One. I’m really excited about it: the songs we’ve written are above the best stuff we’ve ever made and can’t wait for people to hear it all put together.” Stone Sour recently released a snippet of the track ‘The Travelers, Pt. 1.’ Listen below.
