Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Stone Sour know how to set a mood, and frontman Corey Taylor certainly does just that vocally within the new lyric video for the band’s latest single, ‘Do Me a Favor.’ The track is the first single off the band’s upcoming ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 2 .’ The clip is set against the backdrop of a desolate landscape before finally directing the action inside a dilapidated house where the lyrics, and occasional silhouettes presumably of Taylor, come to light against a tattered wall. As we learned with ‘House of Gold & Bones, Part 1,’ the story centers on a person’s downward spiral and it feels as though lyrically the brutal nature of the character’s viewpoint is definitely intact on ‘Do Me a Favor.’ Taylor opens the song belting, “ I am an anti-everything man / A scab on the lips of the lord / My caustic dismissal / Is all I need to get you to fall on your sword ,” and he later offers the thought-provoking line, “ Ignoring your history is killing your past / You might run forever if death never lasts .” As for the chorus, the criticism comes harsh. The frontman sings, “ So do me a favor / Your behavior / Is just the reason there is no savior / When your wasted / Let’s face it / There’s a side of you that knows you’re a failure / Lives for the danger / Feels like an enemy / But looks like a stranger .” ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 2′ is set to drop on April 9, and ‘Do Me a Favor’ feels like the perfect transition from what we got on the first disc to lead into the second. The band is currently on tour in support of both ‘House of Gold & Bones’ discs. January 25th, 2013 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Stone Sour , Papa Roach and Otherwise brought the heat Tuesday night (Jan. 23) to a sold-out crowd that needed to be warmed up after stepping into New York City’s Terminal 5 on an extremely cold night outside. For anyone who has seen frontman Corey Taylor in action, it’s evident that he gives it his all when performing. Stone Sour gave a phenomenal performance as they began their set with their dual singles ‘Gone Sovereign’ and ‘Absolute Zero’ off their latest album, ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 1.’ They also played other new tunes such as ‘A Rumor of Skin,’ ’RU486,’ ‘The Travelers (Part 2)’ and ‘Last of the Reel.’ The crowd joined Taylor in belting out hits such as ‘Bother’ and ‘Through Glass’ and went crazy when Stone Sour performed favorites such as ‘Made of Scars,’ ‘Reborn’ and ‘30/30-150.’ Earlier in the night, co-headliner Papa Roach proved that the band is ‘Still Swingin’ as they kicked off their set with that very song. Despite having surgery on his vocal cords only a few months ago, singer Jacoby Shaddix delivered powerful performances of other tracks off their latest disc, ‘The Connection,’ such as ‘Where Did the Angels Go,’ ‘Silence Is the Enemy,’ ‘Give Me Back My Life’ and ‘Before I Die.’ The band also rocked out well known hits like ‘Getting Away With Murder,’ ‘Scars,’ and ‘Hollywood Whore.’ And fans really lost their minds as Papa Roach ended their set with a rousing rendition of ‘Last Resort.’ Otherwise kicked off the rocking night of music with a vigorous performance as they played various tracks off of their album ‘True Love Never Dies.’ Frontman Adrian Patrick and his brother, guitarist Ryan Patrick, have a certain energy, connection and perceptiveness onstage. January 24th, 2013 Metalkult YouTube There’s something to be said for moving on from heartbreak, and Otherwise capture that spirit in their most recent single, ‘I Don’t Apologize (1000 Pictures).’ If you didn’t get that from hearing the lyrics initially, the band has now provided a video that spells it out even further. The new clip for ‘I Don’t Apologize’ features a man who has taken a trip to the desert where there’s a lone, solitary leafless tree. As he stands by himself, he begins thumbing through photos taken with his ex, reflecting on some of the good times had and with each photo, he places it with a clothespin on one of the brittle branches. But as we see, the good times didn’t last and the love of his life was cheating on him, so each photo placed upon the tree serves as a way of shedding his past and moving on. If you follow the lyrics of the song, you can guess the fate of the aforementioned tree and the photos that adorn it. Otherwise are currently touring in support of their debut album, ‘True Love Never Dies.’ The band can be seen opening shows for Stone Sour and Papa Roach on their current North American tour leg. January 19th, 2013 Metalkult Facebook: Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour) Stone Sour are enjoying some of their greatest success to date with the two-part album ‘House of Gold & Bones,’ and drummer Roy Mayorga is very happy to be part of it. Back in 2011, Mayorga suffered a stroke and there was concern about whether or not he would be able to continue, but the musician is happy to report he’s recovered. Mayorga tells the Lehigh Valley Morning Call that doctors revealed that his years of violent head-banging led to a dissected artery that caused the stroke. The drummer added that there was “a good seven, eight months” where he was not playing music, and that he was having trouble moving his left side. But rather than replace him, the group called off their tour and waited a year while he recovered. Speaking about his bandmates, Mayorga stated, “That’s incredible. I mean, that’s a lot to be said for them. Those guys are truly my brothers, for them to do something like that … Most bands would have gotten somebody else to play drums, but they didn’t.” Over time, the improvement began. “I got off the meds and got the confidence again to play drums and got behind the kit and then started recording this new album,” explained Mayorga. “Almost two years later, I’m pretty much back to normal, and it’s a miracle, man, I gotta say. I thank God and the universe and lucky stars I’m still here today. I’m just glad that’s over with and I’m able to still walk and play drums and be here with my family.” As for the new record, the drummer says this was the most collaborative effort the band has enjoyed to date. “We all wrote everything together and we all brought songs individually to the table, but once we got them all, we just took them apart and put them back together again and each and every one of us put our own stamp on it,” explained Mayorga. The first part of the ‘ House of Gold & Bones ‘ album is out now, with the latter half expected in April .
