Pantera vs. Slipknot – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Semifinals

Loudwire Rock Bowl Semifinals You may need some padding after this 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl semifinal matchup is complete. It’s the circle-pit favorite ‘F—ing Hostile’ from Pantera squaring off the brutality of Slipknot ‘s own slamming anthem ‘Wait and Bleed.’ Pantera eeked out the narrowest of victories against Drowning Pool’s ‘Bodies’ in the first round, taking home 53 percent of the vote, but they had an easier time in the quarterfinals against Korn’s ‘Freak on a Leash,’ earning 72 percent of the final tally. With the full-force guitar work of Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul’s speedy yet powerful beats, Rex Brown’s thumping bass line and Phil Anselmo’s pent-up aggression, this song is as energetic as they come and captures the fighting spirit represented on the football field. And speaking of aggression, Corey Taylor certainly delivers while singing about the hate rising up inside of him. Much like an NFL player psyched up for competition, Slipknot ‘s ‘Wait and Bleed’ comes out of the gate ready to erupt. ‘Wait and Bleed’ easily bested P.O.D.’s ‘Boom’ in round one with 71 percent of the vote, while Slipknot also had a decisive victory in the quarterfinals against Rob Zombie’s ‘Superbeast,’ with 72 percent of the final tally. It’s Pantera vs. Slipknot in a battle to advance to the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl semifinals and you can hear both songs below. You can vote once per hour between now and Friday (Feb. 1) at 10AM ET, so vote as often as you can. Metallica vs. Avenged Sevenfold – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Semifinals

Loudwire Rock Bowl Semifinals Well, isn’t this an interesting matchup? Metallica ‘s ‘Seek and Destroy’ squares off against Avenged Sevenfold ‘s ‘Seize the Day’ to determine which act will advance to the finals of the 2013 Loudwire Bowl. Two very different songs, but each with a title that helps define football. Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ has enjoyed a relatively easy patch to the semifinals, besting Volbeat’s ‘A Warrior’s Call’ in the first round earning 71 percent of the vote and staving off Papa Roach’s ‘Last Resort’ in the quarterfinals with just shy of 64 percent of the final tally. As for ‘Seek and Destroy,’ the hard-hitting song has what it takes to amp up just about anyone and the talk of starting a fight is just the competitive spirit you want out of a football song. As for Avenged Sevenfold, they outlasted Shinedown’s ‘Devour’ in Round 1 by earning just shy of 64 percent of the vote. Then, in the quarterfinals, their fans rallied to boost them past Disturbed’s ‘Indestructible’ with 60 percent of the vote. Though the track may not be as hard as some of their competitors, the song is no less inspiring. Name an NFL player, especially during playoff time, that can’t identify with the sentiment “Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost.” The song rings true with the idea of making every moment count. Will ‘Seek and Destroy’ advance and survive or will ‘Seize the Day’ live up to its title? The battle begins now and you can vote once per hour to help ensure your favorite moves on to the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. Voting continues through this Friday (Feb. 1) at 10AM ET. Marilyn Manson Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Woman Who Claimed They Were Engaged

Frazer Harrison / Allen Berezovsky, Getty Images Earlier this month, Marilyn Manson reached out via his lawyer demanding a public apology from Seraphim Ward (real name Yolanda Tharpe) for spreading false stories about him in the press. Now that that hasn’t happened, he’s following through on a defamation lawsuit against Ward. According to the Hollywood Reporter , the complaint was filed Tuesday (Jan. 29) in Los Angeles Superior Court. Manson claimed he was the target of “a months-long campaign of defamation and harassment.” It’s also stated that Manson does not know Ward, whose occupation is listed as musician and independent occult filmmaker in the complaint. Ward’s claims first got attention when she stated in a widely circulated story that she was engaged to the rocker. Though Manson and his representatives denied he even knew Ward, that apparently didn’t stop her from continuing to make claims concerning Manson, including accusations that he is ‘pro-Nazi’ and racist. According to the filing, Ward did eventually retract the engagement announcement, but later made public accusations that Manson refused to marry her because he “did not want to be seen with [African-American] women” like her. She also claimed that he was responsible for the death of her two cats and that he was stalking her. The rocker is reportedly seeking $50,000 relating to five cases of defamation, misappropriation of common law right of publicity, unlawful use of Manson’s name for commercial advantage, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Black Veil Brides Deliver Rock ‘N’ Roll Sermon to the Wild Ones in Massachusetts

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com It may have only been a Saturday night, but when the Black Veil Brides rolled into the Palladium in Worcester, Mass., on Jan. 26, church was officially in session. With their ‘Church of the Wild Ones’ tour now in full swing, the Black Veil Brides resided over their pulpit delivering a sermon of good-for-the-soul, raw, rock ‘n’ roll. Rife with theatrics, gratuitous guitar solos, and just enough attitude to carry it all off, the Black Veil Brides deliver a live show that’s reminiscent of the decadence of glam rock in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s but completely transformed for a new generation, or an army as the case may be. Their fans, known as the BVB Army, were out in full force paying homage to the band with face paint and all the signature BVB trappings. Frontman Andy Biersack, bassist Ashley Purdy, guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx and drummer CC Coma – collectively known as the Black Veil Brides, rang in the new year with their latest disc ‘Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones’ – a conceptual disc that largely inspired their current stage show and set list. From kicking off the show with ‘I Am Bulletproof’ to new tracks like ‘Nobody’s Hero,’ ‘Wretched and Divine’ and ‘Shadows Die,’ the set list brilliantly showcases their latest work. With that in mind, fans hoping to hear music from BVB’s first two discs won’t be disappointed on this tour at all. ‘We Stitch These Wounds’ was represented with tracks like ‘Knives and Pens’ and the single ‘Perfect Weapon.’ 2011’s ‘Set the World on Fire’ provided some of the loudest crowd sing-a-longs of the evening from ‘Fallen Angels’ to ‘The Legacy’ and ‘Rebel Love Song.’ The Black Veil Brides are a young band building on something big. With a vision for their music that includes not just the audible but the visual and visceral, the Black Veil Brides provide more than just a concert, it’s an overall rock experience. In addition, they seem to understand the importance of the intangible things in the music world like the relationship they’ve cultivated with their fans throughout the years. The Black Veil Brides continue their tour run through the beginning of March; check out all of the remaining tour dates here . The Bronx Stream New Album ‘IV’ in Full

UTO California-based hardcore group the Bronx have created a truly awesome album with their fourth full-length record. After creating two punk-meets-mariachi albums in 2009 and 2011, respectively, the Bronx have returned to the grit with ‘The Bronx (IV),’ and it’s being streamed in full online. The Bronx attacked the underground punk and hardcore scene with their first full-length in 2003, boasting powerful modern classics such as ‘False Alarm,’ ‘Heart Attack American’ and ‘They Will Kill Us All (Without Mercy).’ The band released two more albums before venturing into mariachi territory, but now the Bronx are back to hard-hitting and catchy hard rock tracks with their 2013 album. ‘The Bronx (IV)’ showcases a more melodic style than their grittier-than-dirt sound 10 years ago. Drummer Jorma Vik explains this change, along with how it’s affected the performance of vocalist Matt Caughthran. “Matt doesn’t scream as much, but he’s got that thing in his voice where he can scream in pitch,” Vik describes to NME . “Mariachi has helped his confidence as a singer and ours as songwriters.” This album is definitely a must-hear recording, and may even become one of the defining underground rock albums of 2013. We certainly love it, so we give ‘The Bronx (IV)’ our seal of approval and highly recommend you give standout tracks such as ‘Along for the Ride,’ ‘Too Many Devils’ and ‘Torches’ a good listen courtesy of Rolling Stone . Five Finger Death Punch Drummer Jeremy Spencer Penning Autobiography

Gareth Cattermole, Getty Images Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer has embraced the rock and roll lifestyle and all that comes with it over the years, and now that he’s sober he’s ready to tell his tales in the new autobiography, ‘Deathpunched: Cheers to My Sobriety.’ The book, which is expected next year, features Spencer on the cover with adult film legend Ron Jeremy. The drummer told Los Angeles’ ‘ Heidi & Frank Show ,’ “The story behind that is … obviously being in a rock band, you dabble in the party lifestyle from time to time. So after years of that catching up to me, I got sober. But we always used to have this saying about doing cocaine, like you would get so cranked on sexually in your brain when you do it — like everything is exciting — but then you get numbed out beneath the belt line area. So we always said, ‘Man, you feel like Ron Jeremy from the neck up and Christopher Reeve from the neck down.’ So the cover of the book is me in, like, a Superman kind of costume in a wheelchair cheersing a martini glass with Ron Jeremy and two hot chicks. So that’s the cover of my book.” Spencer, who just past a year of sobriety on Jan. 8, says he initially planned to self-release the book but now has a deal in place with a publisher and expects it out next year. As for the Five Finger Death Punch’s current status, he reveals that the band are “cocooned up” at the moment working on new music, but do have plans for some spring shows in Europe followed by a summer North American trek.
