30 Seconds to Mars to Launch ‘Up in the Air’ Single Into Outer Space

30 Seconds to Mars: Facebook It may not quite reach the red planet, but 30 Seconds to Mars are about to make their debut in the realm of outer space. The band’s new single ‘Up in the Air’ will actually be launched into orbit on Friday (March 1) to eventually reach its destination of the International Space Station. ‘Up in the Air’ is the first single from 30 Seconds to Mars’ as-yet-untitled fourth album, which will see a 2013 release. The band has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of what an act is capable of, setting a Guinness World Record for Most Shows Played During a Single Album Cycle, racking up a total of 311 shows in nearly 60 countries on six continents over a period of two years while supporting their 2009 full-length, ‘This Is War.’ As if the band’s previous accomplishments weren’t epic enough, including over 5 million albums sold worldwide, this next astronomical event will take place on March 1 at 10:10 AM ET as ‘Up in the Air’ is rocketed into outer space. The very first copy of ‘Up in the Air’ will be part of a SpaceX cargo mission carrying over 1,200 pounds of scientific equipment and another miscellaneous gear needed to aid astronauts within the International Space Station. Fans will be able to watch the launch live thanks to NASA, who also offer full details and updates on the mission via their official website. 30 Seconds to Mars will also meet with Tom Marshburn, one of the astronauts currently aboard the space station, on March 18. The chat will also be broadcast online, with specific details soon to be announced on 30 Seconds to Mars’ website . ‘Up in the Air’ will make its Planet Earth debut on March 19. Kyng Forced to Pull Out of Tour With Clutch Due to Injured Band Member

Stephanie Cabral California rock trio Kyng are known as road warriors but they have been forced to drop off their most recent trek with Clutch due to an injury sustained by their bassist Tony Castaneda. Castaneda was involved in an unfortunate auto accident and this unexpected situation will also delay Kyng’s plans to record their sophomore follow up to their debut ‘Trampled Sun’ with producer Jim Rota (Fireball Ministry, Sound City), and Andrew Alekel in Los Angeles this spring. Although the injury has affected the band’s touring schedule and recording plans, Kyng will continue the process of working on their forthcoming record with a planned release for this Summer. Below are a list of Kyng’s canceled tour dates. Clutch will move forward on the road with supporting acts Orange Goblin and Lionize. Def Leppard Announce 2013 Las Vegas Residency

Yet another rock band has announced that they will launch a Las Vegas residency. With bands such as Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses having successful tenures in Sin City, Def Leppard are the latest act to confirm a series of shows in Vegas. Def Leppard’s residency will be titled ‘Viva Hysteria!’ and will be focused around the band’s most beloved album, ‘Hysteria.’ The group will be playing the record in its entirety, which features the legendary tracks, ‘Animal,’ ‘Love Bites’ and ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me,’ along with select hits from their other albums. The famed Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will host Def Leppard’s residency, with nine shows scheduled to begin on March 22. “We’re very happy to be part of what I call the first wave of rockers to take Vegas back from the lounge singers — Wayne Newton and his type,” Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott tells USA Today . “Things like ‘Run Riot,’ ‘Don’t Shoot Shotgun’ and ‘Love and Affection’ got left by the wayside because of the popularity of other songs that, to be frank, if you don’t play them live, you don’t get out of the building alive. The oddest thing is going to be doing ‘Sugar’ fifth. In many respects, it’s like the Troggs opening with Wild Thing.” Elliot continues, “The downtime will not go to waste. Two of the guys in the band live in Dublin and the other three live in California. This is a great opportunity for a band that has decided to live all over the world to be in one room at one time, to look each other in the eyes and to come up with ideas.” Ultimate Classic Rock actually spoke with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen earlier this year about the possibility of a Las Vegas residency. “We’ve been talking about this for 10 years, me and Joe Elliot, more than anyone else. We [would] do [whole albums like] ‘Hysteria’ or we do ‘Pyromania’ one night and something like that would be great, but we’ve just talked about it. Obviously we haven’t got it into gear, it would be cool. It’s getting the time to do it in a venue; I think that’s brilliant Motley Crue doing it.” Check out Def Leppard’s upcoming Vegas dates below.
