Slipknot vs. P.O.D. – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Round 1

It’s time to get amped up for some football and in our 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, we’re attempting to find out which track gets you most in the mood for gridiron aggression. This first round matchup pits the masked rockers of Slipknot against the “Southtown” favorites, P.O.D. While Slipknot offer plenty of unrelenting tracks, ‘Wait and Bleed’ is arguably the best fit the most for football. As Corey Taylor sings about the hate raising up inside of him, the listener can definitely apply that to the competition at hand. And given the violent nature of football, there will definitely be some bleeding coming soon. P.O.D.’s hit song ‘Boom’ has long been a sports anthem, with singer Sonny Sandoval seemingly calling out the competition after a particularly hard hit. As the song says, “ Boom! / Here comes the boom! / How you like me now? ” There’s no mistaking that sentiment when it comes to football. Which one of these rock warriors will be left standing when Round 1 is complete? That’s up to you to decide. Listen to both tracks below, then vote in the poll provided. You can also vote in the next 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl matchup by clicking on the red button at the bottom of this post. Voting in Round 1 concludes Sunday, Jan. 27, at 11:59PM ET. P.O.D. to Perform During Halftime of NFC Championship Game in Atlanta

Payableondeath.com P.O.D. may be homers for the San Diego Chargers, but with their team out of the playoff picture, they’ll travel to Atlanta this weekend to serve up some hard-hitting rock for those in attendance at the NFC Championship game. The rockers have been chosen as the halftime performers at the event, in part, due to the popularity of one of their tracks during Falcons football games. Roddy White, the director of event marketing for the Atlanta Falcons (not related to the wide receiver of the same name), told San Diego’s NBC affiliate , “This is kind of a neat thing. Since 2002, when I came to work for the Falcons, their song ‘ Boom ‘ has been a fan favorite. Virtually every game we have played since then, their song has been played as part of our presentation.” Singer Sonny Sandoval also tweeted about their appearance at the event: Excited to be playing the @ nfl @ atlanta_falcons @ 49ers #Playoff Game #Halftime Show this Sunday!!!! @ pod @ thewhosoevers — Sonny Whosoever (@SonnyWhosoever) January 15, 2013 ? This isn’t the band’s first foray into NFL promotions. Back in 2007, P.O.D. created a theme song for their hometown San Diego Chargers. In addition to P.O.D., the Falcons have lined up country superstars the Zac Brown Band to perform the national anthem for the game. Sunday’s game between the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers will air at 3PM ET on FOX. Aside from the NFL appearance, P.O.D. will be plenty busy in the coming months. P.O.D. Lyrical Controversy Leads California Festival to Switch Venues

Razor & Tie P.O.D. was scheduled to perform in Ventura, Calif. Sunday (Oct. 28), but canceled the gig  after some controversy erupted with the venue. Originally scheduled for the Ventura County Fairgrounds, the Monster Jam Fest was moved to a smaller venue after fairground officials objected to the lyrical content of the P.O.D. song, ‘Youth of the Nation.’ According to the Ventura County Star , a fairgrounds official emailed the promoter Ezio Van Horst saying they did not want P.O.D. to play ‘Youth of the Nation’ because some of the song’s lyrics were “too touchy and controversial.” The lyrics refer to a school shooting, and the paper says the email described the song as “too violent to be played at a family event.” Except for a tweet announcing the cancellation and a link to the Ventura County Star article, the band has not commented on the issue. The scaled down show apparently took place without P.O.D.’s participation. P.O.D. will be getting back on the road in November, opening for 3 Doors Down and Daughtry . They will take a few days off from that tour to set sail on the 2012 ShipRocked Cruise Nov. 27 – Dec. 3, then return to land to wrap up the last couple of weeks of the 3 Doors Down/Daughtry tour. Their latest single ‘Higher,’ from the ‘Murdered Love’ album, recently entered Loudwire’s Cage Match Hall of Fame .
