Stone Sour Win Rock Band of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards

Roadrunner Records Kudos to Stone Sour  for winning Rock Band of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. In a heavily competitive heat, Stone Sour emerged as the victor with just over 23 percent of the final tally. The band’s big year was bolstered by their most ambitious release to date — ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1,’ which is only the first half of a two-part album project. Could that lead to a repeat victory in 2013? We’ll have to wait and see. As we stated, Stone Sour had a tough road to emerge as the victor. Halestorm gave them all they had, finishing second with close to 19.5 percent of the vote. With 10 nominees in the category, it speaks highly of the respect of the fan bases that only two of the competitors earned under five percent of the final sum. Congrats to Stone Sour  for nabbing the honor of  Rock Band of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. Tony Iommi Wins Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com In an incredibly close race that saw multiple lead changes throughout the entire voting process, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi narrowly beat out Slipknot / Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor for Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. The legendary axe-man and master of the riff was diagnosed with cancer early in 2012, and although it stopped the majority of Black Sabbath’s tour dates, one thing it never stopped was Tony Iommi. Despite the lymphoma diagnosis, Iommi continued writing for Black Sabbath’s massively anticipated next album, ’13,’ laying down guitar lines that will surely blow us away once its released in June 2013. Congrats to Tony Iommi. For his bravery and dedication to heavy metal, fans have voted the Black Sabbath legend their 2012 Rock Titan of the Year. Machine Head Win Metal Video of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards

Roadrunner Coming in strong in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards with more than half of the overall vote for Metal Video of the Year is Machine Head for ‘Darkness Within.’ The honor is incredibly well-earned, as the visual accompaniment for ‘Darkness Within’ plays more like an acclaimed short film rather than a music video. The brilliance of ‘Darkness Within’ managed to beat the cartoon clairvoyance of Dethklok, the messianic time traveling of High on Fire, the disturbing Job for a Cowboy and the acid-laced ape assault of Pig Destroyer. Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn praised bands such as Behemoth and Rammstein for their game-changing music videos, which inspired Flynn and the rest of Machine Head to create something more than just “dudes in a warehouse playing.” Congrats to Machine Head for winning the 2012 Loudwire Music Award for Metal Video of the Year. Metallica To Headline Japan’s Summer Sonic Fest

Ethan Miller, Getty Images With a 3D film and a new album in the works, Metallica may not be able to spend a huge amount of time on the road this year. Given that thought, the announcement that the band will headline  Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival in August makes that ticket much more valuable. The group will headline at Tokyo’s QVC Marine Field on Aug. 10, then turn around and finish things out at Osaka’s Maishima Summer Sonic site the following night (Aug. 11). In addition to Metallica, top concert draw Muse and the reunited Stone Roses have also been confirmed for the event. Aside from Summer Sonic, Metallica will kick off 2013 with dates as part of Australia’s traveling Soundwave festival running Feb. 23 through March 4. They’ve also booked a pair of shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa in April. In addition, Metallica have announced plans to bring back their Orion Music + More Festival for a two-night stand in June, this time located in the Detroit area. Their current final headlining appearance of the year comes Sept. 19 at the Rock in Rio festival. Though Metallica are working on new music, there’s not a high probability of any new material appearing during the band’s shows this year. The group has already stated that a 2014 release is more likely for their next disc.
