Theo Wargo / Michael Loccisano / Paul Kane, Getty Images The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Award Show looks to be the event’s biggest ceremony to date, as Metallica , Rob Zombie and Tony Iommi will be among the honorees. This year’s Revolver Golden Gods takes place May 2 at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia and also features a headlining performance by Metallica. Metallica have been chosen to receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, joining such past honorees as Rush , Motley Crue , Lemmy Kilmister and Ozzy Osbourne . Drummer Lars Ulrich stated, “Since the Revolver Golden Gods Awards is fast becoming THE most rocking awards ceremony in the hard rock world, we are beyond psyched to be at the receiving end of this shout out and in the distinguished company of Rush, Lemmy, Ozzy and Motley Crue. I was hanging out and presenting at the shenanigans two years ago and the energy in the room and the vibe backstage was beyond f—ing cool, so Metallica is chomping at the bit to partake in this year’s event.” The Golden God award, given to an honoree that embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, will be presented to Rob Zombie this year. “What can I say?,” said Zombie. “It is a complete honor to receive this award and have my name join the list of such legendary past winners as Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons . Pretty cool deal to be part of the Golden God club.” The timing of the ceremony will also work well for Zombie, who also used the opportunity to announce that his next album, ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor,’ will drop April 23, followed by the release of his ‘Lords of Salem’ film on April 26. The night’s other major honoree, Black Sabbath ‘s Tony Iommi, will be adding the Riff Lord award to his mantelpiece. Iommi says, “What a great honor to receive the Golden Gods Riff Lord Award for 2013, especially with our new Sabbath album coming out. I hope there will be some new favorite riffs in these songs.” Last year’s winner of the Riff Lord honor was Slash . The evening will also feature performances from Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch , Anthrax , Stone Sour , Dillinger Escape Plan and Halestorm , with more acts expected to be added in the coming weeks. Fans can currently vote in 11 other categories (listed below) at goldengodsawards.com . Tickets for the show, which will once again be hosted by Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho , can be purchased here . The event will broadcast live on AXS TV, and also via Xbox Live and Facebook. Rockers Sebastian Bach and Dee Snider will host the red carpet event prior to the ceremony. 2013 Rock on the Range Festival The 2013 Rock on the Range lineup has been unveiled and it’s packed with must-see bands. Rock on the Range will celebrate its seventh year of festival madness with perhaps its best lineup to date. The three-day event will feature Soundgarden , Alice in Chains , Smashing Pumpkins , Korn , Stone Sour , Lamb of God and many more. The 2013 installment of the Rock on the Range festival will take place May 17-19 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Columbus Crew Stadium. Korn will be welcoming former guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch to join them onstage. The band has already booked some dates with Head in Europe, but this is their first U.S. show of the year so far that will feature the axeman. “Head is back!!,” says Korn’s Jonathan Davis . “Rock on the Range is going to start it all off!! Get ready, we are going to hit it hard!!” Another band to pay close attention to for Rock on the Range is Lamb of God. Although LoG are confirmed for the festival, vocalist Randy Blythe is scheduled to appear in Czech court on Feb. 4 for his controversial manslaughter case. Depending on the outcome, there is a question of whether Lamb of God will indeed be able to remain on the bill. Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains is excited about the band’s slot in this year’s Rock on the Range, saying, “We’re really looking forward to returning to Rock on the Range with a batch of brand new killer Alice tunes to play for everyone!” Additionally, Bush singer Gavin Rossdale offers, “Bush are thrilled to be playing Rock on the Range with such great bands. We look forward to seeing you all out there.” Check out the full festival lineup below, and find out all the ticket pre-sale and onsale information at the official Rock on the Range website . Universal Live Act of the Year proved to not only be one of the most popular categories of the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards, but also the most surprising in terms of the final result. With monster acts such as Metallica and Slipknot breathing down their necks, comedic heavy metal act Steel Panther have captured the crown of Live Act of the Year. Anyone who has seen Steel Panther live understands not only how hilarious and raunchy the show is, but also the technical prowess of each member. Steel Panther’s live performance is tighter than their spandex pants, and bringing female fans who will flash their boobies onstage doesn’t hurt either. A huge congratulations is due for the saviors of heavy metal, Steel Panther. The band is constantly touring, so if they happen to stop at your town, do yourself a favor and take in 2012′s Live Act of the Year. Donald Bowers, Getty Images Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Hellyeah has captured the Drummer of the Year award in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. In what has been a storied career, 2012 proved to be one of Vinnie Paul’s landmark years for various reasons. The legendary stickman’s drumming appears on the Pantera track ‘Piss,’ which was released as a never-before-heard track on the 20th anniversary edition of ‘Vulgar Display of Power.’ The long lost tune won Metal Song of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. But it doesn’t stop there: Vinnie Paul delivered some crushing beats on ‘Band of Brothers,’ the latest album from his band Hellyeah. In the end, he dominated the competition with 37 percent of the vote for 2012 Drummer of the Year. Raise your shots of jack and get ‘Drink Drank Drunk’ in honor of Vinnie Paul. Congrats Vinnie! Michael Buckner, Getty Images Congrats to Nikki Sixx , the winner of the 2012 Loudwire Music Award for Bassist of the Year. The veteran rocker carried over some of his Sixx: A.M. momentum from 2011 and then kept things going by joining Motley Crue for their summer tour with Kiss. In addition, the Crue did keep fans satiated with their new single, ‘Sex.’ Sixx took home a massive 30.45 percent of the vote, showing that his popularity has not waned over his storied career. In fact, it was another well-known veteran bassist that Sixx beat to take home the title. Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, who entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band this year, finished a distant second with just over 19 percent of the vote. The only other bass hero to receive a double-digit voting tally was Tremonti and Van Halen wunderkind Wolfgang Van Halen, who eeked out 10 percent of the fan voting. Congrats to Sixx on winning the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards Bassist of the Year honor. Look out for a potential repeat victory in 2013 with Sixx expected to have new records out from both Crue and Sixx: A.M. Photo by Ty Watkins Metal Band of the Year was one of the closest categories in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards, but during the final moments of voting, metalcore titans As I Lay Dying surged ahead to claim the win. As I Lay Dying took a comfortable lead over bands such as Anthrax and Machine Head early in the voting, but one band that they couldn’t quite shake was Lamb of God. After many lead changes made the possible result too close to call at times, As I Lay Dying fans rallied together and launched the band into a slick first-place finish, earning over 28 percent of the votes. Congratulations to your 2012 Metal Band of the Year champs, As I Lay Dying. Watch out for them in 2013 on a co-headlining tour with the Devil Wears Prada.
