Ethan Miller, Getty Images Godsmack singer Sully Erna is extending the life of his ‘Avalon’ solo album with a limited edition box set . Only 5,000 copies of the collection will be sold, and Erna had done his best to pack the box sets full of material that will bolster its value for those who purchase it. Described as “the ultimate Sully Erna fan package,” the box set includes a full performance of the ‘Avalon’ record live from Boston’s Wilbur Theatre that was recorded last December. During the set, the singer displayed his many musical talents by tackling drums and piano, as well. The collection also includes the ‘Sully Erna: Journey to Avalon’ documentary, ‘The Making of Avalon Live’ featurette, and seven discs of material in total. There’s also a bloopers CD, an audio CD of the album, and plenty more. As if that weren’t enough, Erna is also packing the collection with a number of collectible items. Fans will get a coffee table book, hat t-shirt, guitar pick, poster, incense, Sully’s biography, a commemorative backstage pass, and a Sully Erna necklace. The entire set comes in a custom metal Sully Erna-engraved box with a suede lining. There will also be several golden tickets included with the box set, and those receiving them will have a chance to join Sully on all-expense paid trips to Las Vegas, Catalina Island, Napa, New York, and Boston. Other items like autographed guitars, handmade drums, and handwritten lyrics may also turn up as prizes for those purchasing the box set. Though an official release date has not been announced, the ‘Avalon’ box set is expected in November. Guitarist DJ Ashba: Axl Rose Has ‘Tons of Stuff Done’ for New Guns N’ Roses Album

Ian Hitchcock, Getty Images When, oh, when will fans get served the uber-anticipated follow-up to Guns N’ Roses ’ 2008 album, ‘Chinese Democracy’? According to guitarist DJ Ashba , new music from GN’R may not be too far away! “[Axl Rose] has tons of stuff done [and] recorded that he’s played for me and wants my input on,” Ashba says in an interview with Rolling Stone . “Axl’s put together such a talented group of musicians and there are so many songs that are already worked out. So we’ve got a good jump on it, for sure.” Right now, Guns N’ Roses are gearing up for their 12-date residency at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas, which kicks off Halloween night. DJ Ashba says the residency provides a great opportunity for GN’R to get serious about writing music for their next album. “[The Vegas residency] is the first time we’re all gonna be in the same place for a month solid and that will be, and already has been talked about, our main focus,” he said. “So I think we’re gonna get a lot of done. He adds, “There’s a lot of stuff recorded and I think it’s just a matter of sitting down and working together as a band, putting together what we feel is gonna be the next best Guns N’ Roses record. And I can’t wait; I’m so excited to dive even deeper into that.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/guns-n-roses-announce-fall-2012-las-vegas-residency/” title=”Next: Guns N’ Roses Announce Vegas Residency” align=”center”]

Rage Against the Machine to Release 20th Anniversary Editions of Self-Titled Debut Album

Sony Legacy Rage Against the Machine and Sony Legacy are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band’s eponymous debut in a big, big way with the incredibly deluxe release ‘Rage Against the Machine –XX,’ which will be available in several configurations on Nov. 27. The politically charged 1992 album, which meshed rap and rock in a fresh, uncompromising way that has not been adequately copied since, fused Zack de la Rocha’s fire-in-his-belly lyrical proclamations with Tom Morello’s unique, sounds-like-a-turntable guitar tone. The incendiary, call-to-arms original was released in November of 1992 and the time to celebrate its power and legacy is now. ‘Rage Against the Machine – XX’ is newly remastered and will be offered in three formulations: -The 20th Anniversary Edition Deluxe Box Set houses two CDs, two DVDs, one 12″ 180gm vinyl LP, one 40-page booklet and a two-sided poster. -The 20th Anniversary Special Edition collects two CDs and a bonus DVD featuring six tracks in an oversized softpack. -The 20th Anniversary Edition single compact disc includes three bonus tracks. Additionally, a 12″ 180gm vinyl edition–a picture disc and a facsimile reproduction–of the original LP has been remastered and will be available, sans bonus tracks. Compact Disc One of the newly remastered ‘Rage Against the Machine – XX’ will include the original album in its entirety, as well as three collectible b-sides from the era. Compact Disc Two presents the original Rage Against the Machine demo tape, which was recorded in 1991 and sold for $5 at the merch table at the band’s earliest gigs. So it’s quite an artifact and a piece of RATM history, a “must own” for collectors, since it helped the band secure its record deal with Epic. This marks the first time the entire demo tapes have seen a full official release. DVD #1 included in the Deluxe Box Set features Rage Against the Machine’s free concert in Finsbury Park on June 2010, which was a “thank you” to U.K. fans for making ‘Killing in the Name’ the U.K.’s No. 1 single during Christmas Week 2009. Also included are music videos plus live concert performance clips. DVD #2 features Rage’s debut album, focusing on live performance from 1991-1994 and includes the full set of RATM’s first public performance as well as various live, rare clips. New liner notes were penned specifically for this release by friend, fan and hip-hop icon Chuck D. of Public Enemy. If you’ve got a RATM diehard in your life, your holiday shopping just got a whole lot easier. CD 1 – Rage Against The Machine – Remastered 01. Bombtrack 02. Killing In The Name 03. Green Day Reveal ‘Troublemaker’ Video, ‘¡Dos!’ Track Listing + ‘Twilight’ Contribution

Reprise The good thing about having an album trilogy is that there’s a lot of music to pick from, and Green Day have new info regarding all three records – ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!,’ and ‘¡Tre!’ First up, the group is digging deeper into the ‘ ¡Uno! ‘ disc by premiering another video for the song ‘Troublemaker.’ The video once again focuses on the performance aspect of the band, taking the viewer both inside the studio as the track was being recorded and up onstage for the audience reaction to the song. The clip can be seen below. Secondly, with the ‘¡Uno!’ album out, the group has started turning their attention to the ‘¡Dos!’ disc. The 13-track collection, due Nov. 13, has primarily been kept under wraps until now even though the group has played the song ‘F— Time’ at shows. Fans can start speculating about the next disc as the full ‘¡Dos!’ track listing has been revealed. It can be seen below. ‘¡Dos!’ can be pre-ordered here . And finally, Green Day has landed a song on the upcoming ‘ Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ‘ soundtrack. The group is easily the biggest act on the primarily alternative and indie-leaning collection. ‘The Forgotten’ is the name of their contribution, and it will also be featured on the ‘¡Tre!’ album. Green Day are currently taking some time off the road while singer Billie Joe Armstrong completes his substance abuse treatment . 3 Doors Down To Unleash ‘Greatest Hits’ Collection With Three New Songs

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com 3 Doors Down have enjoyed a decade-plus of hit after hit after hit, and now the Mississippi rockers will package all of their favorites onto one best-of disc, with a trio of new tracks adding a little something special to the release. The set, simply titled ‘Greatest Hits,’ is due Nov. 19 from Republic Records and features such favorites as the group’s first smash single ‘Kryptonite’ through standouts like ‘It’s Not My Time,’ ‘When I’m Gone,’ and ‘Here Without You.’ As for the new songs, fans are already embracing the track ‘One Light,’ which made its live debut earlier this year as part of the band’s Republican National Convention appearance. The set also features the new songs ‘There’s a Life’ and ‘Goodbyes.’ The ‘Greatest Hits’ collection comes after 3 Doors Down  reluctantly parted ways with guitarist Matt Roberts earlier this year. Roberts has dealt with circulation problems for years, and things had worsened to the point that he realized he could no longer keep up with the grueling tour schedule the band follows each year. Chet Roberts, unrelated to Matt, has stepped in to fill the vacated slot. Three Days Grace, ‘Transit of Venus’ – Album Review

RCA Records In astrological terms, the transit of Venus is when the planet passes between the Sun and the Earth, displaying as a black disc moving across the sun for a period of several hours to stargazers around the globe. The occurrence happens approximately every 240 years or so and is not entirely predictable making it a very rare phenomena. In musical lingo, ‘Transit of Venus’ marks the return of Canadian rockers Three Days Grace and the follow up to their 2009 disc ‘Life Starts Now.’ While the connection between the two transits may not be completely transparent, the anticipation and excitement surrounding both mixed with the unpredictable nature of the two seem to pull them together, or at least into the same galaxy. Three Days Grace went into the making of ‘Transit of Venus’ with a very focused goal of digging a little deeper, pushing a little further, and allowing themselves to experiment with new instrumentation and layers without completely diverting from the Three Days Grace brand that they have cultivated throughout their career. ‘Transit of Venus’ definitely marks a new direction for the band infusing electronic elements over textured sonic landscapes while maintaining their love for catchy hooks served up courtesy of guitarist Barry Stock and drummer Neil Sanderson, pounding bass lines provided by Brad Walst, and the signature raspy rock vocals of Adam Gontier. The celestial disc begins with ‘Sign of the Times,’ an out of this world, ethereal, slow-moving opus that starts things off with a moody, sullen vibe before it kicks into high gear, reminding music fans of why they fell in love with Three Days Grace in the first place. The rest of the disc tends to follow that same path, new progressive elements hitting the Three Days Grace of old head on, melding into well-rounded tunes that sound meticulously crafted and built from the ground up, layer by layer, brick by brick. The first single, ‘Chalk Outline’ is a chugging, dark, anti-love song of good times gone bad allowing guitarist Barry Stock to shine throughout. Most of the disc’s 13 songs cater to an angrier, darker place but then up from the ashes comes ‘Unbreakable Heart,’ one of the most ambitious songs on the album. The tune blends acoustic melodies with orchestral hues hugging the inspirational lyrics being sprung from Gontier’s soul, “ You want to fight back / It’s building inside you / Holding you up / Taking you hostage / It’s worth fighting for .” 3DG also give a nod to Michael Jackson on the disc with their version of the King of Pop’s ‘Give in to Me,’ speeding the song up a bit but staying pretty true to the overall vibe of the song. Overall, Three Days Grace accomplished what they set out to do with ‘Transit of Venus,’ they’ve stepped out of their comfort zone, ditched the formula, and went all in, holding nothing back in the true spirit of rock. The reward clearly outweighed the risk on this one and the additional elements enhance the songs without taking them hostage and the identity that Three Days Grace has forged for the past 20 years is clearly better for it. Here’s to 20 more.
