And it looks like Mustaine has another trick up his sleeve. In a new Facebook posting , the vocalist asks his followers, “Any ideas for a guest singer on a track? I have a few ideas, but wanna know what you think.” The timing of the posting is a bit of a head-scratcher as Megadeth recently completed recording on their new album and are currently in the mixing process, so it’s not known if the idea of having a guest vocalist on a song is meant for a future recording or something that might turn up on their next album. In the short amount of time the posting has been up, Mustaine has already received over 3,000 comments from fans with suggestions such as Anthrax ‘s Joey Belladonna , Metallica ‘s James Hetfield and Down ‘s Phil Anselmo among those frequently mentioned. Megadeth have been holed up in the Vic’s Garage studio in San Marcos, California over the last few months with producer Johnny K overseeing the effort. Bassist David Ellefson recently stated , “Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave [Mustaine] today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met — fast, rippin’ and fully bringing the REAL old-school Megadeth sound!!!” An official release has not been revealed, but it’s safe to say that Megadeth’s new album is on target for a 2013 street date. Metallica.com With a new album in the works, a 3D film set to arrive in the summer, plans for a second Orion Festival and a headlining gig at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards, Metallica have a busy 2013 ahead of them. And now the year got even more awesome with the announcement that the band will step up to the metal plate by performing the National Anthem and throwing out the first pitch at the San Francisco Giants game May 3 as part of the first ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park. The World Champion Giants will be playing against their arch rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that will even be more explosive with Metallica’s performance of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ Special event tickets for the game go on sale this Saturday morning, Feb. 9, at 8AM PT. Relapse Texas death metal band Devourment are soon to release their fourth studio album, ‘Conceived in Sewage.’ Produced by death metal royalty Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal / ex- Morbid Angel , the record is set to drop on Feb. 19, but we’ve got one of the album’s brutal songs, ‘Parasitic Eruption,’ available for streaming exclusively on Loudwire. Devourment have been creating death metal on and off for nearly two decades after experiencing a carousel of member changes. The band’s lightheartedly titled debut album, ‘Molesting the Decapitated,’ was released in 1999, followed by ‘Butcher the Weak’ in 2005 and ‘Unleashing the Carnivore’ in 2009. ‘Parasitic Eruption’ is a purely brutal piece of American death metal with a backbreaking vocal performance from Mike Majewski and solid instrumental work from guitarist Ruben Rosas, bassist Chris ‘Captain Piss’ Andrews and drummer Eric Park. Devourment have even filmed a music video for ‘Parasitic Eruption,’ with the band informing their fans via Facebook on Feb. 6. The latest confirmed participant on the band’s upcoming record is none other than the legendary Elton John . The piano man revealed his guest turn on ‘Chelsea Lately,’ which is being hosted this week by Queens of the Stone Age’s studio drummer Dave Grohl . The Foo Fighters frontman teased, “Recently Elton and I recorded something together, something that people wouldn’t imagine the two of us doing together,” setting up John to reveal his participation. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer revealed the bizarre consequences surrounding his recording session, explaining, “I was in Vegas and I can back to L.A. and Engelbert Humperdink had written me this very sweet letter and asked me to do a duet with him and I couldn’t say no. He’s 76 and still got a great voice and he’d been part of my history, so I said, ‘Of course.’ So I went there and sang the duet with him and then I drove three blocks in the Valley and went from Engelbert to Queens of the Stone Age, which was a bit of a mindf—.” John says it may seem like an unlikely pairing, but it’s not weird at all to him. He pointed out that he played on Alice in Chains ‘ last album and admitted that he rarely gets approached for rock guest spots because people think he’ll just say no. Speaking about the session, Elton recalled, “It was really a great track and you know I’m a piano player and guitar bands play differently …. And I think it was in B, which is a pianist’s nightmare, and we played for three hours, and [Grohl] played on every take and every take was amazing. He’s just built like a brick s— house when he plays the drums, you know, and it was fantastic.” In addition to John, the Queens of the Stone Age album has reportedly included guest contributions from Trent Reznor , Nick Oliveri , Mark Lanegan and the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears , as well as Grohl’s drumming on the full disc. Chris McKay, Getty Images New York’s annual Governors Ball festival recently revealed its lineup for the 2013 event, and it’s an eclectic mix of primarily indie rock bands and hip-hop acts. But there was one headliner not announced that remained a mystery. Organizers have now filled in that rather conspicuous blank with legendary rockers Guns N’ Roses . The veteran outfit will take their stage show to Randall’s Island park in New York, where they’ll share the spotlight over the June 7-9 three-day weekend with fellow headliners Kings of Leon and Kanye West . The festival will be the band’s first major North American show since their Las Vegas residency and the Neil Young Bridge School benefit last fall. The Governors Ball festival is primarily indie-rock leaning, with GN’R serving as the primary hard rock option for festival-goers. Along with the headliners, fans can also catch the Avett Brothers, Grizzly Bear, Feist, The xx, Best Coast, Animal Collective, Gary Clark Jr., Kendrick Lamar, Nas and more. Frazer Harrison, Getty Images Tool fans were disappointed to say the least when singer Maynard James Keenan announced that there would be no release from the band in 2013. The modern experimental legends have been working on a new album for some time, and drummer Danny Carey says, along with a bunch of other news, that a 2013 release is still planned. When it comes to the upcoming Tool album, Carey stated that it is still planned to dropin 2013. “Sometime this year … that’s all I can say,” Carey tells TheRockFM about the record. “The sooner the better for us. We’re working everyday but you can never predict it, honestly. We’re really excited about it so I hope all the fans will be too.” Carey also reports that bassist Justin Chancellor has been the “main driving force” to get the album completed. Carey also told the radio station that he plays drums on the soundtrack to the upcoming Superman film ‘Man of Steel.’ In addition, he adds that Tool have a massive amount of live material that may be released on CD or DVD form in the future. “We have tons of stuff recorded,” says Carey. “I hope we do make that happen one of these days. We have lots of video stuff too, we could do a DVD or two whenever we get around to it. We’re kind of trying to focus on the new thing now, so we’ll go back at some point and do it.” In a separate interview with David Farrier , Carey spoke about an epic 20-minute piece being constructed for Tool’s next record. “We’re still – believe it or not! – still working on it,” the drummer says about the piece. “[Laughs] It’s like an ever-evolving thing, it’s probably going to turn into a thing that’s like, a big trilogy type of feel to it, sort of like ‘Disposition’ and ‘Intension’ and ‘Triad,’ like on the ‘Lateralus’ record or something. It will probably be over a 20-minute piece when it’s all finished, so it will be a good part of the record. We’re dealing with it in sections, but it’s coming together really well, we’re having lots of fun working on it, that’s for sure.” Finally, Danny Carey revealed that he was, in fact, the mystery Tool member that sustained injuries from what was reported as a Vespa accident . “It’s been tough lately because I cracked four ribs,” Carey begins, “broke three of them on a motorcycle the other day, so I am kinda laid up at this point, it’s making it really painful to play. It’s not an easy thing to do. [Laughs] … it was just over in the San Fernando Valley, I was just turning to go on the freeway, and I think I hit some antifreeze or oil or something, and the wheels just slipped right out from under me, and I just hit the pavement really hard. [Laughs] … Yeah, I’m still in one piece anyway, but I don’t know how lucky I was the way I feel right now [Laughs]. It’s pretty painful, but some painkillers and some scotch will get you through it.” Tool have also just announced a cluster of tour dates in Australia and New Zealand. Photo by Stevie D. Buckcherry have a busy year ahead of them with the release of their sixth studio album ‘Confessions,’ which drops Feb. 19. They are also in the midst of a U.S. tour with Kid Rock that runs through early April. Loudwire had the privilege to speak to frontman Josh Todd about the new album and the things in his life that influenced its theme of the seven deadly sins. We also discussed the film project he is working on to compliment the new disc. Check out our interview with Josh Todd below: You’ve said that ‘Confessions’ is based on the seven deadly sins, and I’m wondering if you can expand on that and also tell me what the album title means to you personally? There was a point in my life – when I was a youth, when I lost a family member and I acted out in my grieving process through the deadly sins so that’s kind of what the story’s about on the record. I think the seven sins are timeless and that everybody struggles with them in their daily lives all the time – it’s something that we’ve been throwing around for a long time, [guitarist] Keith [Nelson] and I as far as doing a record. There’s a lot of people who’ve done it but we wanted to do our take on it and I feel like we really did it justice. As a lyric writer, I wrote all the lyrics — it was really challenging for me and fun, as well. When I sit back and listen to this I’m so proud that it’s part of the Buckcherry catalog. The record makes me look at the seven deadly sins in a different way – when I listened to ‘Sloth,’ I didn’t expect it to be so soulful. When thinking about specific sins, did you already have a certain direction in your mind that you would go with them? I’m glad you brought that up about ‘Sloth,’ because nobody’s really talked about it. That was the hardest song for me to get through. When you look up sloth it relates to suicide and my father committed suicide when I was 10. It’s about how I felt when that happened – when he actually called my sister and I on the phone that night before he did it. I can’t remember what he said to me because I was just too young to process it. He was just saying goodbye and I didn’t know what that meant, until the next day. It was heavy and I struggled getting through recording those vocals and Keith worked with me and was really sensitive about what I was going through to get it out, but I think it turned out to be really beautiful. There are songs named after the seven deadly sins, but there’s a total of 16 tracks on the record. How did you choose what other songs would accompany the theme of the album — such as ‘Nothing Left But Tears,’ ‘Water,’ ‘The Truth’ etc. I wrote a short film to go along with the record and we’ve had such a hard time with the funding and we’re still working on that. The original idea was to have the record be the soundtrack to the film and we wanted to incorporate some of the elements like ‘Air’ and ‘Water’ and that’s why those are there. ‘The Truth’ coincides with the love interest in the story and it’s a real beautiful story but I also wanted to write songs that were memorable and mean something to somebody else not just me and what I was focused on at the time. That’s part of the challenge with writing songs – you want to take enough of your personal experiences so that you can get excited about performing it every night and you can go back to that place and get motivated because you have to sing your songs thousands of times. What did you notice about writing a screenplay that differed from writing songs for you? I’m a really big fan of storytelling and writing and I read a lot of books and I’ve done some acting and I’ve read a lot of scripts. Maybe about six or seven years ago I took a swing at writing a screenplay on my own, and I wrote a comedy actually, and Stevie D., our guitar player read it at one point and was like, “Why don’t you ressurect a character that was in the comedy?” and make it about this film. At the time I was just writing a screenplay based on my life so I just combined the two. What’s the progress on the film project? We got a great director, his name is Billy Jayne and he just directed both of our first two videos ‘Gluttony’ and ‘Wrath,’ and we introduce the character in the movie. His name is Gilby Stretcher. He basically is me in the movie as an adolescent 17-year-old kid. It’s going to be good, it’s a beautiful little journey about a kid that comes home from school and finds his dad dead and acts out through his behavior and the seven sins and then finds a love interest. In the end, he forgives his father and his this girl that he’s down with who’s the complete opposite of him. It’s really cool. If you had to choose a well-known actor to play you in a biopic, who would it be and why? Let’s see I’d like a young Leonardo DiCaprio. He did ‘Basketball Diaries’ and I think he’s just a great f—ing actor. I’m a big fan of his and I think he’d do a good job. ‘Confessions’ is the sixth studio album for Buckcherry. How was the recording process of this album for you? This record took a long time and it was aggravating at times – a lot of writing and re-writing, we just put a lot of work into it. I think it’s going to pay off and I think it’s our best record, honestly. As a whole, as a body of work, I think people will take us a little more seriously than they have in the past. We did it again with Keith [Nelson] who produced it with Marti [Frederiksen] and that’s how we’ve been doing the last two records so that was familiar which I like. I like having Keith there because he and I have a long history and I can talk to him in ways that nobody understands. What is one of your favorite tracks off the record and why? Probably the one I’m most lyrically proud of and spent a lot of time on is ‘Pride.’ I think that’s a very cool song for us and really off the beaten path. It was more poetry, that song and I’m a big fan of The Doors and Jim Morrison. I wanted a song that was poetry and the verses are like that so I’m proud of that song.
