Scott Weiland Talks Stone Temple Pilots Future in Pre-Firing Interview

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Stone Temple Pilots  announced that they officially fired  singer  Scott Weiland  yesterday (Feb. 27), which met with a follow-up statement from the frontman in which he revealed that he was surprised by the announcement. “Surprised” is definitely the key word, as Weiland spoke with Rolling Stone earlier this week about the rumors and his future with Stone Temple Pilots and he did not let on that there was trouble on the horizon. In the interview, which took place only a few days ago, Weiland stated, “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired. We’re talking about when we want to tour next. My personal feeling is that we just need some new blood in the band. It’ll give it new energy, so that we’re not just playing the same greatest hits set we’ve been playing ever since we got back together after I left Velvet Revolver . I’d like to make a new record so it breathes new life into it.” As for hearing that Slash had been the one to make public talk of his firing from STP, the vocalist added, “Slash doesn’t know anything about STP. Those guys wanted to get together to talk about touring, but I don’t think touring right now is the best thing. STP has a legacy, and to protect that is very, very important to me. But to go and do the kind of offers that we were getting would be diminishing the brand, and I don’t want to do that. There are offers right now. There are offers that I passed up on. There’s offers that those guys didn’t want as well. There were some hurt egos, but that’s the way it is. Things are like a family. No one’s ever fired anybody in STP.” Weiland called Stone Temple Pilots “a partnership” and added that it was not uncommon for he or the other members to go off and do their other projects. He concluded, “I’ve always supported them. But no one’s been fired and I haven’t quit, so that’s all hearsay.” Shortly after the interview was conducted, the news of Weiland’s firing became public and he stated that he was unsure of how he could be terminated from the group he founded and fronted and co-wrote some of their biggest hits. He added, “That’s something for the lawyers to figure out.” At present, Weiland is set to head out on tour playing music from STP’s ‘Purple’ and ‘Core’ albums. He adds that he and his solo band cohorts are “halfway finished” with a new disc. Rob Zombie Reveals Title + Release Date for Upcoming Album

Jag Gundu, Getty Images Rob Zombie has been talking about his next studio album for quite some time, but now comes word that the disc has a title and is expected this April. In addition, Zombie revealed a firm release date for his upcoming film, ‘ The Lords of Salem ,’ which will closely follow the new album. The disc, titled ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor,’ is now on schedule for an April 23 street date courtesy of Zodiac Swan / T-Boy / Ume. Zombie worked closely with acclaimed rock producer Bob Marlette on the set. ‘The Lords of Salem’ film will follow in theaters April 26, though the music on the album is completely separate from the movie. Last fall, Zombie  revealed of the new disc, “It’s stylistically sort of a little bit of everything. Fans of my really old stuff will love it because there’s a certain aspect of it that’s very reminiscent of that. But it is also very looking to the future. It’s hard to describe music to somebody if they haven’t heard it, but I feel like it’s the best of all the things I’ve done. I’ve finally found a perfect match between the old stuff I did and then new stuff. That’s the way it sounds to me anyway.” The veteran rocker added that he’s got a special feeling about the new record, explaining, “It seems to happen every couple of years or every 10 years or every five years or whatever, you have a moment when it all comes together. Not that the other records are bad, but not every record can be like the most inspired event in your life. But for some reason, this one feels like it. The songwriting, the sound of it, the vibe, the production — it’s special.” The album details came with the announcement that Zombie would be honored at this year’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards on May. 2. Tool Member Badly Injured in Vespa Crash, Songwriting for New Album Delayed

Tool Dissectional An unidentified member of Tool recently suffered serious injuries after crashing his Vespa scooter along icy roads. The accident left the musician with several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder, thus pushing back jamming and writing sessions meant for Tool’s massively anticipated fifth full-length album. Posted on the band’s website on Jan. 26 as a Tool newsletter, the Vespa accident was described in detail while keeping the identity of the member affected hidden. Strangely enough, yet another anonymous person involved with Tool also wound up in the hospital from a separate Vespa crash, suffering a head injury along with multiple cuts and bruises. Tool were hoping to begin 2013 with some good news that would energize fans long awaiting a new record, but unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case. However, in a turn for the better, the band is now back to work on the album. Here’s an excerpt from the latest newsletter detailing the situation: The New Year started off on a bad note as far as writing and arranging sessions for Tool’s next record. For the most part this was due to a ‘minor’ accident on a Vespa scooter (slick road conditions being the cause) by a certain band member that resulted in several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. Because of the physical nature of the musical instrument involved, 9 DAYS of jamming were lost, although I’m happy to report that the person involved is recovering nicely, so much so, in fact, that writing sessions resumed last Monday (January 21), despite it being a holiday for many. Coincidently (?), a few days prior to the mishap on the scooter, another person involved with Tool also wound up in the hospital after crashing his Vespa in Hollywood. Although he suffered a head injury (as well as multiple cuts and bruises to his body), I’m quite certain that if you were to order an “Entaphiosis” Hoddie, you would receive an “Entaphiosis” Hoodie. Several days ago members of the press (from different magazines) conducted interviews with band members about upcoming events, and I would imagine that these writers, etc. also inquired as to how things were progressing with regards to the band’s next record. So, there’s something to look forward to reading, and I will certainly try to give updates as to when these publications hit the newsstands. I was hoping to be able to throw some of you a bone the first week of the New Year, but for certain reasons this announcement has been pushed back a month. Therefore, look for a news post that will be exciting to some towards the end of the first week in February. Maynard James Keenan and his side project Puscifer are set to release their latest EP, ‘ Donkey Punch the Night ,’ on Feb. 19. As for news on Tool’s upcoming record, stay tuned as news continues to break. Soundgarden Stream New Album ‘King Animal’ Ahead of November 13 Release

Seven Four Entertainment/Republic It’s been an awfully long time between new albums for Soundgarden , but the band’s comeback disc ‘King Animal’ is almost here — and thanks to iTunes, we can actually hear it a week ahead of its release. While ‘King Animal’ won’t officially arrive in stores until next Tuesday (Nov. 13), iTunes is offering a free stream of the full album now (click on link below). And although it isn’t exactly the complete listening experience — you can’t skip between tracks, and the stream doesn’t provide song titles — it’s still a nice surprise for the fans who have been waiting more than 15 years for a new record from the band. The ‘King Animal’ stream follows months of buildup for the reunion album, starting with the release of the ‘Avengers’ soundtrack anthem ‘ Live to Rise ‘ over the summer, and continuing with teases and streams of an assortment of other tracks, including ‘ Worse Dreams ,’ ‘ Been Away Too Long ,’ and ‘ Non-State Actor ‘ — as well as the announcement of an expanded edition , complete with bonus tracks, that will be available exclusively at Best Buy. In the weeks and months to come, fans also have a North American tour to look forward to — but today, just crank up ‘King Animal’ and see if you agree with frontman Chris Cornell ‘s assertion that Soundgarden’s current creative vibe is “almost like it was in the beginning of the band.” [button href=”http://bit.ly/KingAnimaliTunes” title=”Listen to Soundgarden’s ‘King Animal’ at iTunes” align=”center”] Note: Outside the U.S. and Canada, ‘King Animal’ can be streamed at NME.com . Bullet for My Valentine Announce New Album Title + Release Date

Sony Bullet for My Valentine are finally picking things up again with the announcement that their next album has a title — ‘Temper Temper’ — and also has a Feb. 11 release date. Not so coincidentally, Bullet for My Valentine also has a new single called ‘Temper Temper’ as well. It recently debuted online and is expected to arrive as a download next month. The ‘Temper Temper’ album finds the band reuniting with Don Gilmore, the producer behind their 2010 release ‘Fever.’ Earlier this year, singer Matt Tuck revealed that the band had been working on new music in Thailand . It’s been a pretty busy year for Tuck, who has also spent time recording and touring with his new project, AxeWound . The group recently issued their debut disc, ‘Vultures.’ That, combined with the fact that guitarist Michael “Padge” Paget recently underwent back surgery , may have had something to do with the album arriving in 2013 rather than this year. Paget had his surgery after the album was complete, and has been spending his time recuperating. NME reports that Bullet for My Valentine will hit the road shortly after the album’s release as four shows have already been announced in their native U.K. Stops include Birmingham’s O2 Academy (March 12), Glasgow’s O2 Academy (March 13), Manchester’s O2 Apollo (March 15), and London’s Roundhouse (March 17).
