Soundgarden’s ‘King Animal’ Best Buy Edition Bolstered With Bonus Tracks

Facebook: Soundgarden Fans have been anxiously awaiting a new album from  Soundgarden for more than 15 years, and the Nov. 13 arrival of ‘King Animal’ is just a couple weeks away. A deluxe edition of the release will also be available at Best Buy that includes extra tracks. In addition to the 13 songs on ‘King Animal,’ demo versions of the songs ‘Black Saturday,’ ‘Bones of Birds,’ ‘By Crooked Steps,’ ‘A Thousand Days Before’ and ‘Worse Dreams’ will also be included.  Finished versions of all five songs also appear on the album. ‘Been Away Too Long’ is the first single from ‘King Animal.’ Frontman Chris Cornell describes the song as “a look back at history in sort of a strange atmospheric way.” Cornell called the song’s lyrical narrative a way of saying, “We’ve been gone for 15 years and now we’re back. It’s about time, and we still have something to say about rock music that no one else is saying — and I feel confident about saying that.” So why did the band split up back in 1997? Cornell says , “We broke up because we were bored of the periphery, all of the things that are outside of the band playing music and writing songs, playing shows – that part got really boring.” Bassist Ben Shepherd adds, “The part that is outside of writing songs and playing shows. So it wasn’t the Soundgarden thing, it was the outside of Soundgarden.” Soundgarden will play the British TV show ‘Later With Jools Holland’ on Nov. 6. According to Grunge Report , they’ve also just booked a ‘Live on Letterman’ mini concert following their Nov. 12 appearance on the ‘Late Show With David Letterman,’  and they have two European concerts scheduled on Nov. 7 (Dortmond, Germany) and Nov. 9 (London, England). Suffocation’s Frank Mullen Avoiding Long Tours, Replacement Filling In on Select Dates

Nuclear Blast Suffocation vocalist Frank Mullen recently stated that after over 20 years of making death metal’s most brutal music, he will be playing a smaller role when it comes to the future of the band. Mullen no longer feels like he can go off on tour for long periods of time, so during future shows, the vocalist will be playing some shows, while a guest vocalist will be used to fill whatever additional dates there may be. This comes as sad news for many Suffocation fans, as Mullen is not only the innovator of the modern death metal guttural, but also a personality beloved by fans. Whether he’s threatening to kill members of the audience through ridiculous means or utilizing the famous Mullen air-chop, the Suffocation vocalist is almost as entertaining as he is brutal. Mullen revealed his diminished role in the band to Horns Up Rocks! earlier this week, but has since given a detailed explanation of his future plans. “I am not leaving Suffocation,” begins Mullen. “Massive one month long touring on my side cannot be done anymore though. When the new album is released next year I will be touring as much as possible to support the album as well as the following year in 2014.” The vocalist continues, “When I was asked that question in the interview I was taken off guard and didn’t really know what my schedule was going to look like next year and wanted to try and answer. I haven’t given much thought to what our touring schedule would look like since we’ve been in the studio recording the new release. So I’m going to be getting out there as much as I can to support the album and get out there in front of the ones who have supported Suffocation over the years, the true fans. So we are going to be supporting this record as soon as it comes out” The other members of Suffocation also commented on the situation. “We have respected this decision that Frank has made, but by no means does this mean Suffocation will ‘replace’ him with new singer or stop touring. Death metal has been good to us, and we feel fortunate with the success we have achieved. For shows or tours he can’t be a part of there will be a well respected, talented, fill in singer, so we as a band can continue to prosper and bring Suffocation to the fans. Bill Robinson (Decrepit Birth) is a good friend of ours and came through during the European tours when Frank was unable to make the shows, but he was just filling in those two times. The fill-in singer will be announced soon, and we promise that our fans will not be let down. We have been fortunate to make a great living playing music, and are willing to continue to give our fans what they want.” Suffocation are planning to release their seventh full-length album, ‘The Pinnacle of Bedlam’ sometime in early 2013.

Singer Jill Janus Tells the Story of Huntress – Exclusive Video

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It’s been a busy year for metal band Huntress with the release of their debut album ‘Spell Eater.’ In a new video, premiering right here on Loudwire, the band’s frontwoman Jill Janus talks all about the music of Huntress and their creative process. “Huntress is true heavy metal. We stay true to the roots of heavy metal, it’s fast, it’s vicious but melodic,” says Janus. “That’s the way that we write, we want to be melodic in all of our songwriting, the thrash elements, the elements of black metal and death metal and I wail. That’s what I do, I scream.” Janus also reflects on when she first met her current bandmates: “When I came to Los Angeles, I met a band named Professor and saw them perform and immediately I knew, I knew that we needed to join forces – so I begged them to listen to a demo that I had written. We rehearsed once and after that we decided to team up and Huntress was birthed.” Anyone who has seen the band live or watched their videos knows the intensity of Huntress. The song ‘Spell Eater’ was their lead single off of the debut record and fans have been hooked ever since. Check out a list of the band’s European tour dates below. As far as touring goes, Janus says Huntress are “conquering the world one metal head at a time, I’m coming for my crown and there will be blood.” Watch Huntress Frontwoman Jill Janus Discussing the Band’s Origins + More Huntress 2012 European Tour Dates: 10/9/12 Tillburg, Netherlands 013 10/10/12 Vosselaar, Belgium Biebob 10/12/12 Hanover, Germany Capitol 10/13/12 Cologne, Germany Live Music Hall 10/14/12 Copenhagen, Denmark Amager Bio 10/15/12 Oslo, Norway Rockeffeller 10/16/12 Stockholm, Sweden Tyrol 10/18/12 Seinajoki, Finland Rymikorjaamo 10/19/12 Helsinki, Finland Nosturi 10/21/12 Lund, Sweden Mejeriet 10/22/12 Gothenburg, Sweden Brewhouse 10/23/12 Arhus, Denmark Train 10/24/12 Hamburg, Germany Markthalle 10/26/12 Bournemouth, UK Sound Circus 10/27/12 Cardiff, UK Bogiez 10/28/12 Stoke-on-Trent, UK Minister’s Bar 10/29/12 London, UK 02 Academy 10/30/12 Munich, Germany Backstage 10/31/12 Berlin, Germany Postbahnhof 11/1/12 Dresden, Germany Reithalle 11/2/12 Erfurt, Germany HsD 11/3/12 Bochum, Germany Zeche 11/5/12 Frankfurt, Germany Batschkapp 11/6/12 Vienna, Austria Szene 11/7/12 Zurich, Switzerland Komplex 11/9/12 Florence, Italy Viper Theatre 11/10/12 Treviso, Italy New Age Club 11/11/12 Milano, Italy Alcatraz 11/12/12 Solothurn, Switzerland Kofmehl 11/13/12 Marseille, France Le Moulin Club 11/15/12 Barcelona, Spain Salamandra 1 11/16/12 Madrid, Spain Sala Arena 11/17/12 Lisbon, Portugal Cine-Teatro de Corrois 11/18/12 Barakaldo, Spain Rock Star Live 11/20/12 Toulouse, France Le Saints des Seins 11/21/12 Bordeaux, France Rock School Barbey 11/22/12 Paris, France La Cigale 11/23/12 Strasbourg, France La Laiterie 11/24/12 Lille, France Le Splendid 11/26/12 Amsterdam, Netherlands Melkweg 11/27/12 Esch/Alzete, Luxembourg Rockhal [button href=”http://loudwire.com/guys-of-huntress-talk-debut-album-spell-eater-odd-jobs-more/” title=”Check Out Our Interview With the Guys of Huntress” align=”center”]

Stone Sour Talk ‘House of Gold & Bones,’ Reveal Touring Bassist

Roadrunner Records Stone Sour ‘s ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ? is set to be released Oct. 23 as the first of a two part concept album, with the second part expected in May of 2013. In a new interview, singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Josh Rand spoke with Metal Shrine  about a number of topics, including the band’s new touring bassist. Taylor explains the genesis of the album, saying, “I’ve had the idea for the concept for a few years actually, but I’ve never given myself the time to really flesh it out and see it clearly. It was right about the time when we did the Sonisphere shows that for some reason “Boom!”, it f—ing hit me! I saw it as clear as day, beginning, middle and end. I knew the characters, I knew the world that I wanted to create, I knew what I wanted to do.” After the exit of Stone Sour bassist Shawn Economaki earlier this year, the band recruited Rachel Bolan from Skid Row to play bass on ‘House of Gold & Bones.’ Rand says it was a great experience: “He’s a phenomenal writer on top of being a phenomenal bass player and he brought this style into it that we felt had been lacking. Instead of following the guitars, he actually plays bass and it elevated all of the songs to a whole new level.” Rand adds, “He came in, a super cool guy and did all 24 songs in five days. It was insane! I don’t think people realize how great of a player he is. It was just insane to watch him knock these songs out. With him coming in and doing that, it just added another level of energy to the whole project and he took a lot of the songs to a different level.” Bolan’s schedule with Skid Row won’t allow him to play live shows with Stone Sour, and Rand revealed the touring bassist will be Johny Chow. Chow has played with Cavalera Conspiracy, Soulfly and Fireball Ministry. Stone Sour will  embark on a European tour at the end of October that will last for the rest of the year. They”ll also play Australia in early 2013. Korpiklaani + More Bring Folk Metal Show to New York City

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire The Finnish folk metalers of Korpiklaani graced New York’s Gramercy Theater on Saturday (Sept. 22) with a stellar performance along with Moonsorrow, Tyr and Metsatoll. The New York crowd moshed, danced and crowd surfed during the entire Korpiklaani set. The band had charming stage presence as they played fan favorites such as ‘Levan Polka,’ ‘Kunnia,’ ‘Wooden Pints,’ ‘Journey Man’ and numerous others. They also played some tavern tunes that the crowd appreciated such as ‘Beer Beer,’ ‘Vodka,’ ‘Tequila,’ ‘Happy Little Boozer,’ just to name a few. The Helsinki pagan metalers of Moonsorrow rocked fans with their heavy sound as they donned fake blood all over their faces and body. Sweaty and smelly doom metal never sounded so killer. While the gentleman of Tyr, from the Faroe Islands, had an outstanding set as they won over some New York City fans. The band had the ability to incite mosh pits with one song and cause couples to slow dance with another. Estonian group Metsatoll kicked off the incredible night of European metal, which was a true treat for the NYC crowd. Korpiklaani’s North American Tour in support of their album ‘Manala’ has ended, but you can check out our photos of the New York gig below. The band is currently on tour in Europe.
