Orgy Announce Dates for 2013 ‘Wide Awake and Dead’ North American Tour

Orgymusic.com Orgy  continue their return to the music scene, as the band just revealed dates for their 2013 ‘Wide Awake and Dead’ North American tour. The trek launches March 2 in Phoenix and continues through an April 2 finale in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Joining Orgy on the tour will be upstart acts Vampires Everywhere and Davey Suicide. In late 2010, Orgy’s original lineup underwent a shakeup with singer Jay Gordon retaining the rights to the name and restocking the band with new musicians. In the time since, Gordon and new Orgy members Nic Speck (bass), Jamie Miller (drums), Carlton Bost and Ashburn Miller (guitars) have sparingly toured and ducked into the studio to record the recent single, ‘ Grime of the Century .’ The band also released a video for the track last fall. In the downtime between touring, the group has been working on a new album and while details have yet to be revealed on the forthcoming disc, the return to the road is a good sign that more music may be coming from the band fairly soon. Anthrax Tap Shadows Fall Guitarist Jon Donais to Fill Vacant Band Slot on Upcoming Tour

ESP Guitars / Megaforce Anthrax have not named a full-time replacement yet for exiting guitarist Rob Caggiano , but they will at least be covered for their upcoming tours. The band revealed that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will sit in with the band for their upcoming Fly Festival dates in India, the Soundwave Festival shows in a Australia and the group’s headlining slot on the  Metal Alliance trek in North America. Caggiano recently surprised fans by announcing his departure from Anthrax, stating he’d like to concentrate on producing and other studio work. With so many gigs on their 2013 itinerary, Anthrax acted swiftly to add Donais to their touring lineup “Jon is a bro and he’s a total f—ing ripper,” says Anthrax guitarist  Scott Ian of Donais. “I’ve worked with him twice on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. ’13′s gonna be a good year.” Donais expresses his excitement at the opportunity, adding, “I grew up on Anthrax. They’re the thrash scene, they’re one of the Big Four. I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.” The guitarist revealed that he’s also working closely with the man he’s replacing, as he and Caggiano are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts. “He’s being great,” reveals Donais. “I also have to give special thanks to my band [Shadows Fall] — Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed — who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.” Shadows Fall, meanwhile, have t our dates scheduled from Jan. 26 through April 19. No word on who will be filling in for Donais on the block of dates that conflict with his stint on Anthrax’s trek. Testament, Overkill + More to Embark on 2013 Dark Roots of Thrash Tour

You will see this tour and you will like it ! Both Testament and Overkill successfully raided 2012 with awesome new albums, and luckily for thrash fans, the two bands have teamed up to create the must-see ‘Dark Roots of Thrash’ tour, beginning in January 2013. Many veteran thrash bands deserve the utmost respect when it comes to their accomplishments in 2012. Testament released their ‘Dark Roots of Earth’ album and toured extensively with Anthrax and Death Angel throughout the year; both the album and the tour were incredible well-received. Fellow thrash veterans Overkill unleashed their sixteenth studio album, ‘The Electric Age,’ in 2012 and embarked a mass of festival dates along with a monster tour with God Forbid . It’s only right that two of the greatest thrash acts outside of the ‘Big 4′ converge for a tour of mammoth proportions, taking along Arizona thrashers Flotsam and Jetsam along with Australian thrash metal act 4ARM. “It’s a thrill to announce our upcoming dates with Overkill and Flotsam and Jetsam,” says Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick . “It’s a tour that brings together three different metal bands from three different regions: West Coast, East Coast and Southwest. All three bands sound very different from one another yet are highly compatible. All have been around the block (and the world) a few times and all have managed to keep a sound that feels current. This tour will be a ‘must see’ for fans who remember the early days of thrash/speed metal as well as those whose age is younger than the genre itself.” Find out where you’ll be kicking in skulls by checking out the official tour dates below. ‘Dark Roots of Thrash’ 2013 Tour Dates: 01/30 – San Francisco, Calif. @ The Filmore (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 01/31 – Anaheim, Calif. @ House Of Blues (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/01 – Tempe, Ariz. @ The Marquee (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/02 – Hollywood, Calif. @ House Of Blues (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/04 – Albuquerque, N.M. @ Sunshine Theater (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/05 – Austin, Texas @ Emo’s 02/06 – Houston, Texas @ House Of Blues 02/07 – Dallas, Texas @ House Of Blues 02/09 – Atlanta, Ga. @ Masquerade 02/10 – Charlotte, N.C. @ The Fillmore 02/12 – Silver Spring, Md. @ The Fillmore 02/13 – Philadelphia, Pa. @ Trocadero 02/14 – New York, N.Y. @ Best Buy Theatre 02/15 – Huntington, N.Y. @ The Paramount 02/16 – Worcester, Mass. @ The Palladium 02/17 – Buffalo, N.Y. @ Town Ballroom 02/18 – Toronto, Ontario @ Phoenix Concert Theatre 02/20 – Cincinnati, Ohio @ Bogart’s 02/21 – Grand Rapids, Mich. @ The Intersection 02/22 – Milwaukee, Wis. @ The Rave 02/23 – Minneapolis, Minn. @ First Avenue 02/25 – Denver, Colo. @ The Summit Music Hall 02/26 – Salt Lake City, Utah @ In The Venue 02/27 – Reno, Nev. @ Knitting Factory 02/28 – Sacramento, Calif. @ Ace Of Spades

AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ Album Inducted Into Grammy Hall of Fame

Getty Images AC/DC ‘s ’Back in Black’ album is among the pack of new titles entering the Grammy Hall of Fame this year. The band’s classic 1980 disc joins more than 900 recordings that make up the Grammy Hall’s collection. This marks the 40th year of the Grammy Hall, and Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow says , “It’s especially important to note that these entries continue the tradition of including a wide variety of recordings that have inspired and influenced both fans and music makers for generations. Memorable for being both culturally and historically significant, we are proud to add them to our growing catalog of outstanding recordings that have become apart of our musical, social and cultural history.” The addition of AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ in the Grammy Hall of Fame partly makes up for the band being overlooked at the Grammy Awards over the years. AC/DC have received seven Grammy nominations, but only have one Grammy statue — Best Hard Rock Performance for ‘War Machine’ in 2010 — to their credit. It is also significant as ‘Back in Black’ is one of the very few hard rock albums ever to be inducted. There is the qualification that a recording must be at least 25 years old. ‘Back in Black’ is one of 27 new recordings chosen this year, entering alongside such major acts as  Paul McCartney & Wings, Elton John , Billy Joel , Bob Dylan , Frank Sinatra, and Whitney Houston .
