Death to All: Facebook On Dec. 13, 2001, the world of death metal lost its official MVP. In a recent tribute to Death frontman and late legend Chuck Schudiner, the charitable ‘ Death to All ‘ tour was put together in mid-2012 with an all-star lineup of metal heroes, and in 2013, Death to All hits the road once again. The 2012 Death to All dates were performed by Death guitarists Paul Masvidal (‘Human’), Shannon Hamm (‘The Sound of Perseverance’) and Bobby Koelble (‘Symbolic’), bassists Steve DiGiorgio (‘Human’ / ‘Individual Thought Patterns’) and Scott Clendenin (‘The Sound of Perseverance’). The original string of dates also included drummers Sean Reinert (‘Human’) and Gene Hoglan (‘Individual Thought Patterns’), along with various special guests. The 2013 Death to All dates will once again feature ‘Human’ musicians Masvidal, DiGiorgio and drummer Sean Reinert. Completing the lineup and filling the massive shoes of Chuck Schuldiner will be vocalist / guitarist Max Phelps of Cynic / Exist. Once again, proceeds from the Death to All shows will go towards Sweet Relief , an organization which helps provide financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to stay out of debt while facing illness, disability or age-related issues. February 14th, 2013 Metalkult Universal The Ronnie James Dio album ‘Dream Evil’ is a must-own for any fan of the late legend. For those of you who don’t own a copy of the record, or if you’re just an avid Dio fanatic, ‘Dream Evil’ is set for a deluxe edition re-release, which will come out on March 4. Originally released on July 21, 1987, Dio’s fourth album, ‘Dream Evil,’ contains the classic tracks ‘All the Fools Sailed Away,’ ‘I Could Have Been a Dreamer’ and ‘Night People,’ the last of which Dio had been fooling around with since his days with Rainbow. ‘Dream Evil’ is also significant for being the last album Dio made with Kill Devil Hill / ex- Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice . The deluxe edition of ‘Dream Evil’ will contain not only the album in full, but an extra disc featuring 14 extra tracks, both in-studio and live. The majority of the second disc, however, showcases live performances of tracks such as ‘Holy Diver,’ ‘The Last in Line’ and ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ from Dio’s gig at the 1987 ‘Monsters of Rock’ festival at Castle Donington, England. The album will also include a special expanded booker with notes by British metal journalist Malcolm Dome, which has been endorsed by Dio’s widow, Wendy. January 24th, 2013 Metalkult Facebook: Finch There were a lot of happy fans last fall when Finch decided to regroup to play some dates commemorating the tenth anniversary of their breakout album ‘What It Is to Burn.’ There are even more ecstatic people now that the group has decided to expand the trek outside of California to other North American and European stops this year. Adding to the excitement, the band has also revealed the support acts for a number of their upcoming dates. At present, the band will resume touring in support of their influential disc on Feb. 1 at the Glass House in Pomona, Calif. The group scheduled four dates over consecutive February weekends to give their West Coast fans every opportunity to catch their performance. Late Night Revival and Weatherbox will support on Feb. 1, with Hancox and Particles Like Planets opening on Feb. 2. Just Eleanor and XO will open the Feb. 8 date, with Reverend Crow and Fluf rounding out the support acts on Feb. 9. As the band expands to a wider audience in March, they’ve announced that The Almost have signed on to provide support throughout their remaining North American stops. That leg of the tour runs from March 7 in Chicago through March 16 in Boston. After that, Finch will pack up and head to Europe for the remainder of March. Anthrax Tap Shadows Fall Guitarist Jon Donais to Fill Vacant Band Slot on Upcoming Tour
January 11th, 2013 Metalkult ESP Guitars / Megaforce Anthrax have not named a full-time replacement yet for exiting guitarist Rob Caggiano , but they will at least be covered for their upcoming tours. The band revealed that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will sit in with the band for their upcoming Fly Festival dates in India, the Soundwave Festival shows in a Australia and the group’s headlining slot on the Metal Alliance trek in North America. Caggiano recently surprised fans by announcing his departure from Anthrax, stating he’d like to concentrate on producing and other studio work. With so many gigs on their 2013 itinerary, Anthrax acted swiftly to add Donais to their touring lineup “Jon is a bro and he’s a total f—ing ripper,” says Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian of Donais. “I’ve worked with him twice on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. ’13′s gonna be a good year.” Donais expresses his excitement at the opportunity, adding, “I grew up on Anthrax. They’re the thrash scene, they’re one of the Big Four. I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.” The guitarist revealed that he’s also working closely with the man he’s replacing, as he and Caggiano are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts. “He’s being great,” reveals Donais. “I also have to give special thanks to my band [Shadows Fall] — Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed — who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.” Shadows Fall, meanwhile, have t our dates scheduled from Jan. 26 through April 19. No word on who will be filling in for Donais on the block of dates that conflict with his stint on Anthrax’s trek. The Devil Wears Prada + As I Lay Dying Join Forces for 2013 Marathon Metalcore Tour
December 18th, 2012 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It was a massive year for The Devil Wears Prada and As I Lay Dying , as both bands played 2012′s extremely successful Mayhem tour over the summer. And now the two acts will continue the momentum with a 2013 co-headlining North American trek dubbed the ‘Marathon Metalcore Tour.’ The Devil Wears Prada will trek around the States and Canada in support of their latest album, 2011′s ‘Dead Throne,’ while As I Lay Dying will be touring behind their sixth studio album, 2012′s ‘Awakened.’ The two bands are no strangers, especially since As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was the guest vocalist on the Devil Wears Prada track ‘Constance’ off of ‘Dead Throne.’ Perhaps we will see Lambesis grace the stage with TDWP vocalist Mike Hranica to perform the tune live? For Today will serve as support on all dates except March 7 and 8. The Color Morale will serve as opening act from Feb. 22 – March 7, while the Chariot will join the lineup from March 8 – April 4. Both Testament and Overkill successfully raided 2012 with awesome new albums, and luckily for thrash fans, the two bands have teamed up to create the must-see ‘Dark Roots of Thrash’ tour, beginning in January 2013. Many veteran thrash bands deserve the utmost respect when it comes to their accomplishments in 2012. Testament released their ‘Dark Roots of Earth’ album and toured extensively with Anthrax and Death Angel throughout the year; both the album and the tour were incredible well-received. Fellow thrash veterans Overkill unleashed their sixteenth studio album, ‘The Electric Age,’ in 2012 and embarked a mass of festival dates along with a monster tour with God Forbid .
