Linkin Park Participate in ‘Centerstage Powered by Grammy Amplifier’ Mentoring Program

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Linkin Park have been part of the ‘ Grammy Amplifier ‘ talent search competition since its inception last month, but they’re taking the next step in the process by also signing on for the ‘Centerstage Powered by Grammy Amplifier’ mentoring program. Linkin Park member and program mentor Mike Shinoda joined The Recording Academy’s Evan Green and Hyundai New Media Senior Group Manager Jon Budd at a Los Angeles press conference announcing the online platform that will provide professional mentoring services to aspiring acts discovered through the ‘Grammy Amplifier’ program. The ‘Grammy Amplifier’ program invited musicians to create a profile and upload their music at which point they could then invite their social media fanbases to vote for them as many times as possible. Those with the most votes, known as “amplifies,” would then be introduced to the program’s curators — Linkin Park, Ozzy Osbourne , Kelly Clarkson , Rza, Kaskade , My Morning Jacket ‘s Jim James, and Snoop Lion — who would then help increase their exposure by promoting the aspiring acts on their own social networks. As part of the ‘Centerstage’ program, three of the most “amplified” acts will receive awards that include a recording session with a leading Grammy producer, the production of a music video with a noted producer and/or director and the opportunity to open shows on a major tour or music festival. The winning artists will be announced during the Grammys annual SXSW party in March. For more details on the ‘Grammy Amplifier’ program, click here . Linkin Park Announce Clean Energy Promotion + Rock American Music Awards

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Linkin Park are definitely in the giving spirit year-round, but the rockers are doing something special this holiday season by proclaiming what’s called #GivingTuesday. The day-long event, held Nov. 27, finds the band’s charitable arm, Music for Relief, supporting the work of the United Nations in giving the unique gift of clean energy solutions to people who have no access to electricity and rallying fans to donate. The idea is that fans can give a solar light, solar power for hospitals and health clinics, or Power the World’s latest clean energy tool — the Soccket — which is a soccer ball that is also a portable generator (it’s available at powertheworld.org ). You can also make a donation on behalf of a loved one, and they’ll get an e-card in return, while someone without electricity receives the safe, clean energy they need to improve their quality of life. Linkin Park have been active in supporting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative, and urge their fans to take part in the #GivingTuesday by donating at Powertheworld.org . In other Linkin Park news, the group not only performed ‘Burn It Down,’ but also walked away with a trophy for Favorite Alternative Rock Artist at the American Music Awards Sunday night. (Nov. 18). The band has enjoyed a stellar year buoyed by the success of their ‘Living Things’ album. One Fan Dies and Several Injured at Linkin Park’s South Africa Show After Scaffolding Collapse

Photo: James Minchin Tragedy struck at the stadium where Linkin Park performed in Cape Town, South Africa, tonight (Nov. 7). One female fan died and about 20 others were injured when an advertising structure collapsed prior to the concert due to high winds. Apparently, the wind gusts caused a temporary scaffolding structure to collapse onto fans who were on their way into the concert, but the show went on as scheduled. Linkin Park learned of the tragedy shortly after the concert ended. The band was performing in South Africa as part of their International Linkin Park Underground Summit in which they interact with fans. Following the show, Linkin Park posted a message on their official website expressing their condolences to the family of the deceased fan and their concern for those injured: Following our performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue. We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries. Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy. Prior to the news of the concertgoer’s death, Cape Town authorities released the following statement: “Twenty concert attendees were injured at the Cape Town Stadium this evening when a temporary scaffolding structure in the stadium precinct collapsed due to high winds. The injured were treated on scene and have been taken to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.” Raw video footage of the aftermath of the scaffolding collapse has been released below. The tragedy follows similar deadly incidents involving Radiohead and the country band Sugarland. Raw Footage of Scaffolding Collapse at Linkin Park Show
