Dave Grohl: Foo Fighters Are Beginning Work on New Album

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire So much for that Foo Fighters hiatus announced in October 2012! According to frontman Dave Grohl , work on a new Foo Fighters album is set to begin this week. Dave Grohl may be the hardest working man in rock today, having just premiered his ‘Sound City’ documentary, rolling out shows with his Sound City Players supergroup and recording a track with Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana . And instead of taking a presumed long break from his main gig, Grohl is already at work on a new Foo Fighters album. The Foo’s most recent album, ‘Wasting Light,’ was unleashed in 2011 to much acclaim, earning the band a handful of Grammy Awards. According to NME , Grohl has decided that it’s time to work on another effort. “I return to Los Angeles tomorrow to start work on a Foo Fighters record,” Grohl divulged on Feb. 19, only four months after announcing a Foo Fighters hiatus in 2012. In an earlier NME news piece, Grohl spoke of his plans  for Foo Fighters after the ‘Sound City’ engagements were finished, and the frontman has since stuck with those plans. “We have a plan,” begins Grohl. “We know exactly what’s coming next, and I have the music for the next record and we’re going to start working on it once we finish doing all this stuff … And we have really awesome, big plans for the next album and I’m really excited about it.” Stay tuned for more Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters news as it continues to break. Mastodon’s Troy Sanders Joins Max Cavalera in New Supergroup

Michael Buckner / Carlos Muina, Getty Images Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera has spoken in the past about an upcoming musical project with Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato and former Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch, but a new member has been added to the yet-unnamed supergroup. That man just happens to be Troy Sanders , the bassist and co-vocalist of modern metal outfit  Mastodon . During an interview with Singapore metal radio show ‘Vicious Volume,’ Max Cavalera announced the inclusion of Sanders in the upcoming experiment. “Troy from Mastodon just joined the band, too, so now we’ve got three singers for the project, which is also really killer,” says Cavalera. “I’m really excited about that, too. I think it’s gonna be a very original project. I don’t know any other metal projects out there with three people singing like this. So it can be almost like a Transplants of metal. Transplants had three singers; this also has three singers, and it can be very, very great.” He continues, “I’m following, in a lot of ways, some of the same footsteps as Nailbomb in my approach to this project — a lot of do-it-yourself, punk-rock kind of feeling to the project. So the songs are written really quick — I don’t think too much about it. I like it more like that, so they are very raw. We are working on the [music] in December and then we’re hoping to get in the studio in January. The main thing we don’t have is a name.” Mastodon are currently cruising through South America and Mexico for a small amount of dates, and none of the other acts with members in the upcoming project are currently on tour, so it seems like the new project will being to grow right on schedule. Brian ‘Head’ Welch ‘Really Excited’ About Reuniting With Korn for 2013 Gigs

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Korn ‘s former guitarist, Brian ‘Head’ Welch , is spending more and more time with his one-time bandmates. After saying yes to joining the band for shows overseas , it was announced earlier this week that Welch would be playing with Korn at the upcoming Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio. Welch, who also just released an album with his other band Love and Death , is looking forward to balancing both of his musical loves. He tells ARTISTdirect , “This is going to be crazy for me in a great way.” Speaking about his reunion with Korn, he explains, “It’s a bit surreal because I didn’t expect it to happen. We have no hate for each other like some of these other bands that haven’t talked in years. People grew. Everyone went to different places in life. I don’t know. It was so long that I didn’t see it happening, but then when it crept up on me last May during Carolina Rebellion, I saw the emotion. Nothing else mattered except reconciliation, brotherly love, and that family feel with the guys and the fans. People were in tears. I thought, ‘This is a really good thing.’” The guitarist adds, “When they hit me up about the shows this year, to me, it was time. This is the proper time. The reason I felt like it would never happen because it wasn’t the proper time yet. As soon as the day hit when I felt it was right, it felt so good. I’m really excited about this year with them.” Welch will pull double duty over Rock on the Range weekend, as Love and Death are also part of the bill. “It’s going to be great,” he concludes. “I can’t wait to hook up with my old friends and the old fans, and it’s really cool Love and Death is opening.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/brian-head-welch-on-upcoming-korn-gigs-its-the-right-time-to-reunite/” title=”Next: Brian ‘Head’ Welch Discusses Korn Reunion” align=”center”]
