Columbia / Null Corporation How to Destroy Angels have a wealth of new details concerning their first full-length album today. While we already knew that the album from Trent Reznor ‘s band would be titled ‘ Welcome Oblivion ‘ and would be arriving on March 5, the group has now revealed the artwork (seen at left) and a full track listing for the new disc. Included in the new album are several tracks from the band’s recent EP, ‘ An Omen ,’ including the past singles ‘ Keep It Together ,’ ‘ Ice Age ‘ and ‘The Loop Closes.’ The EP’s ‘On the Wing’ also makes an appearance on the album, as well. How to Destroy Angels intend on releasing the disc in both CD and vinyl formats, with the latter including the bonus cuts ‘The Province of Fear’ and ‘Unintended Consequences.’ In addition, How to Destroy Angels have unveiled ‘How Long?’ as their latest single. The Mariqueen Maandig-led track is more of a moody, contemplative cut from the point of view of someone trying to move beyond a troubled past without unveiling themselves to others. The group also revealed a futuristic video for the track directed by Shynola. In the clip, a young man appears left to fend for himself amidst a treacherous and dark landscape until he happens upon another man just trying to survive as well. The video may be seen below. January 29th, 2013 Metalkult Facebook: Drowning Pool It looks as though Drowning Pool are maintaining their aggression with new singer Jasen Moreno leading the way. The new track ‘One Finger and a Fist’ is an amped up rocker and Drowning Pool are exclusively premiering the lyric video for the song right here at Loudwire. ‘One Finger and a Fist’ could arguably be one of the band’s most confrontational songs, boasting the lyrics, “ I’ve got news for you / you’re not the first one, won’t be the last / Won’t take abuse from you / I see you run, son, you’re running fast .” The band also states in the chorus, “ One finger and a fist / I’ll claw my way out any situation .” For the video, the lyrics fly at the viewer at rapid speed while set against the backdrop of computer generated visual effects mimicking hands, arms and a certain finger that appear occasionally independent of a full body. ‘One Finger and a Fist’ was offered as a free download for a limited period back in December. It’s also one of the key tracks to their first album with Moreno on vocals. Other cuts that have been heard since Moreno took over include ‘In Memory Of …, ‘ a song that was issued as a tribute to the band’s original frontman, the late Dave Williams, and their recent single, ‘ Saturday Night .’ Drowning Pool will hit the road in February, sharing the stage with another act employing a new vocalist — Flyleaf . The trek runs through March 24. Details on Drowning Pool’s new album are expected very shortly. January 25th, 2013 Metalkult Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com The new year is bringing a new Black Sabbath album, their first original disc with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978′s ‘Never Say Die!’ Though the group was unable to work out their contract dispute with drummer Bill Ward , they’re forging ahead with the new music and their first extended touring since regrouping. Bassist Geezer Butler addressed the upcoming disc as well as the band’s drummer situation in a video interview with 96.7 KCAL Rocks . According to Butler, the ‘ 13 ‘ disc has a familiar feel. He explains, “It’s sort of got the feel of the first three albums — back to the basic rawness. And the lyrics are very … they’re just about life … life and death and doom and everything else. You get Prozac with every album.” The bassist revealed that even though the members are very familiar with each other, this was a different recording process as all of the members were completely sober. “It’s been more professional in that way,” says Butler. “We’ve stuck to a schedule every day. We’d go in at one o’clock and finish at six, just to keep everything fresh. Five hours a day — that’s it.” As for the decision to invite Rage Against the Machine ‘s Brad Wilk to play drums on the effort, Butler credits that call to producer Rick Rubin. “He didn’t want a typical heavy metal drummer on the album,” says Butler. “It’s not really a heavy metal album. It’s more of a rock … heavy rock. And Rick Rubin suggested Brad cause he’s more in the vein of Bill Ward. So we jammed with him and he sounded great with the stuff, so we went with that … It’s sort of back to the way we used to be in the ’70s. That’s his feel — sort of a jazzy, bluesy feel to him, and that’s the way the music is now. It was great working with him.” Though the band employed Wilk in the studio and Tommy Clufetos when touring last year, Butler revealed that they hadn’t decided on a touring drummer for this year’s dates. January 23rd, 2013 Metalkult Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach has joined forces with Chicago non-profit organization ‘Hope for the Day’ and Alternative Press magazine to release their latest video segment of ‘Music Saved My Life.’ In the video, Leach goes in-depth about the positive emotional impact that music had on his life, especially during the darkest of times. Jesse Leach, who rejoined Killswitch Engage in 2012 after a decade away from the band, opens up about struggling with depression, anxiety and losing friends to suicide. He also speaks about exactly how music saved his life along with the band which cemented his dedication to his greatest passion. “I got involved with music at around 14 or 15 years old. I first heard the band Minor Threat and the visceral anger, emotion and just the sheer catharsis of the music is really what drove me and it’s something I can relate to, being a young, angry kid and sort of feeling like I didn’t belong in my high school.” Leach continues, “Punk rock and hardcore was really the music that first spoke to me, and made me want to have a voice and express myself. That music was definitely an outlet for my emotions, especially when you’re that young and still learning how to cope.” Hope for the Day is a movement dedicated to educate youth through music and the arts. It hopes to use these crafts as a defense mechanism against suicide by allowing youths to flourish through creative expression. January 23rd, 2013 Metalkult Vimeo Get ready to rock as Avatar are unleashing the video for their current single, ‘Smells Like a Freakshow’ and Loudwire is bringing you the exclusive premiere. The Swedish rockers have provided an interesting character study for the video, as each of the band members get to play the role of tormentor and the tormented in the Johan Carlen-directed video. The band tells Loudwire, “The video illustrates inner conflict in an explicit manner, using abuse of unjust power in different contexts. The lyrical themes of downfall, embracing of decadence and failed attempts to escape are pointed out by the fact that ultimately the bad guys win.” Though all of the members go through a rough conflict with themselves in the video, singer Johannes Eckerstrom has perhaps the most compelling battle. One version of himself stands tall and confident, whipping and taunting the other version of himself, which is slumped over and chained to a post before attempting to escape. ‘Smells Like a Freak Show’ is featured on the band’s fourth studio album and first proper American release, ‘Black Waltz.’ Eckerstrom says of their sound, “We’re in this weird field, caught in a triangle between extreme metal, rock ‘n’ roll and what can be described as Avant-garde.” But even with that eclectic nature, the singer says he feels the band has hit their stride. He adds, “We finally came to understand what a good groove is all about and what a great fit it was for our sound.” The ‘Black Waltz’ album is currently available for purchase here . January 23rd, 2013 Metalkult Facebook: Children of Bodom The mighty Children of Bodom have secluded themselves within the icy woods of their native Finland to work on their eighth studio album. From an undisclosed location in Helskini, the band is constructing and recording 10 new tracks for their follow-up record to 2011′s ‘Relentless Reckless Forever.’ “It’s a nice change to the regular method where we lock ourselves up at a studio in the middle of the woods, usually also during the darkest time of the year,” Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho tells Soundi magazine. “However, we did track drums at the tried-and-tested Petrax studio in Hollola this time as well, so we got our fix of that modus operandi too. But for the guitar and bass, we don’t require a big facility in the countryside, so we decided to stay closer to home for this part of the session.” Interesting enough, Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala has made it clear that he is dedicated to elevating the guitar to greater prominence for the band’s next album, a goal which fans with surely appreciate. Although Children of Bodom’s music has remained strong throughout their career, the band has focused less on massively addictive guitar leads since their 2005 album, ‘Are You Dead Yet?’ “Roope did voice his opinions more than usual this time around,” Alexi says. “And maybe the others, too. As far as the actual question goes, the usual rule applies: all good ideas are taken into consideration.” Although there is no ballpark estimate of a release date, Bodom will be continuing their tradition of recording hysterical covers of pop songs, with the band planning to create metal versions of Bananarama and Roxette tracks.
