Soundgarden Celebrate Release of ‘King Animal’ With Sold-Out Show in New York City

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire A little more than a year ago, Soundgarden played a show at a venue just outside of New York City that has a capacity of well over 15,000, but for the release of their latest album, ‘ King Animal ,’ the band decided to get a little more intimate. As part of a string of small-venue shows , Soundgarden celebrated the release of ‘King Animal’ at New York City’s Irving Plaza with a sold-out crowd of just over 1,000 screaming fans on Nov. 13. Taking the stage a few minutes after 9 PM, Soundgarden tore into a jamming rendition of ‘Incessant Mace.’ In a set that lasted nearly two and a half hours, the band played songs like 1989′s ‘Gun’ and the Grammy Award-winning ‘Spoonman’ that were sure to please long-time Soundgarden fans. Throughout the night, the band also played several new tracks like ‘Non-State Actor,’ ‘Eyelid’s Mouth’ and their latest single, ‘Been Away Too Long.’ Song after song, Soundgarden rocked Irving Plaza with no signs of slowing down. Only addressing the crowd a handful of times, frontman Chris Cornell was more worried with delivering a memorable performance than chit-chatting with fans. During his first break, Cornell explained to the crowd that this was not just a concert, but it was “kind of a record release party.” During another break, he poured his heart out to the fans and thanked them for allowing Soundgarden to get back together and create new music. The band sounded just as tight as they ever did in the 1990s. From guitarist Kim Thayil’s face-melting shredding to bassist Ben Shepherd’s insane finger-picking, to drummer Matt Cameron’s ferocious style, Soundgarden took every single note they played extremely seriously. This was even more apparent with Cornell’s intense and methodical focus on his beautiful lyrics and dynamic vocals. Albums like ‘King Animal’ and live shows like the gig at Irving Plaza – not to mention their appearance on CBS’ ‘ Live on Letterman ‘ – don’t come around very often. If this is what happens when you take a 16-year-long break, perhaps more bands should follow Soundgarden’s lead. Soundgarden Nov. 13 Set List: ‘Incessant Mace’ ‘Gun’ ‘Jesus Christ Pose’ ‘By Crooked Steps’ ‘Outshined’ ‘Room A Thousand Years Wide’ ‘Spoonman’ ‘Taree’ ‘Been Away Too Long’ ‘Worse Dreams’ ‘My Wave’ ‘Ugly Truth’ ‘Fell On Black Days’ ‘Hunted Down’ ‘Drawing Flies’ ‘Non-State Actor’ ‘Black Saturday’ ‘Blow Up the Outside World’ ‘Eyelid’s Mouth’ ‘Blood on the Valley Floor’ ‘Rowing’ Encore: ‘Slaves and Bulldozers’ Second Encore: ‘Rusty Cage’ Check Out Photos of Soundgarden Performing at Irving Plaza in New York City Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Liz Ramanand, Loudwire

Stone Sour Visit Mysterious Realms in Music Video For ‘Absolute Zero’

Roadrunner Stone Sour have just released a new video for ‘Absolute Zero,’ their first single off ‘House of Gold & Bones – Part 1.’ The tripped-out video documents a man trapped inside a bizarre graffiti-covered room with images of Stone Sour lining the walls. The clip for ‘Absolute Zero’ definitely offers some interesting creativity as the main character is stuck in some sort of other-worldly realm. Within this realm, two versions of Stone Sour perform the track throughout the area; one colored grey and the other colored gold. The man is presented with a choice, represented by two buttons in the respective colors of Stone Sour’s dueling identities. We won’t give away his decision, but it is sure to stir up the imagination of fans. “‘Absolute Zero’ is the anti-hero anthem of House of Gold & Bones – Part One,” Corey Taylor tells Rolling Stone . “It essentially lets you know that the hero isn’t perfect, but he will do whatever is necessary. The video is loosely based on the fact that in the short story, the hero ends up in a very strange world and he has to figure out what’s going on and what he’ll do.” Stone Sour are set to begin a comprehensive world tour beginning Nov. 25 in Paris, France. Head on over to RollingStone.com to check out the band’s new video for ‘Absolute Zero.’ [button href=”http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/stone-sour-warp-reality-in-absolute-zero-premiere-20121114″ title=”Watch Stone Sour’s New Video For ‘Absolute Zero'” align=”center”]

Hatebreed Unleash New Track ‘Put It to the Torch’

Razor & Tie Hatebreed have fired up a brand new track from their forthcoming sixth album ‘The Divinity of Purpose.’ The tune, ‘Put it to the Torch,’ is a compact, short and to the point song that we’ve come to expect from this Connecticut hardcore institution. The band released the song with an accompanying lyric video (watch below). The track is just two minutes and 12 seconds, so the ‘Breed get in and get out, making its point with chugga chugga, caveman riffs and Jamey Jasta’s fist-pumping, positive lyrical affirmations about putting all the BS to the torch and letting it burn, baby, burn! Jamey Jasta commented on the tune, saying, “I’m pumped for everyone to check out our new song. Thanks to all of our fans for the continuous support! We’re super excited to release new music and hit the road hard in 2013!” ‘The Divinity of Purpose’ drops on Jan. 29. But ‘Put it to the Torch’ is certainly a satisfying taste of what’s to come. It certainly heats up the cold winter months. System of a Down’s Daron Malakian Recording New Scars on Broadway Album by Himself

Frank Micelotta, Getty Images With uncertainty surrounding  System of a Down ‘s future recording plans, fans of the band are anxiously awaiting the next offering from Scars on Broadway . Fronted by System singer-guitarist Daron Malakian , Scars on Broadway released one solitary self-titled album in 2008, but according to Malakian, a new Scars effort will likely drop in early 2013. System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan was once a part of Scars on Broadway, having announced his exit from the band in August of this year. Along with his statement of departure, Dolmayan encouraged fans by hyping the upcoming album from the project, “You will definitely hear some Scars on Broadway within the next four or five months … And it’s a good album, by the way.” Although Scars on Broadway consists of a full lineup, Malakian has just revealed that he’s recording the new album completely by himself, playing all instruments, including drums. “It was just this secret, personal thing I wanted to do for myself,” says Malakian. “I didn’t want there to be any hype behind it.” “I could have just recorded music and put it out under my own name,” Malakian tells Revolver magazine. “But I actually want to tour these songs and get behind them. And I was ready to do another Scars On Broadway record. I’ve just been going with the flow, and the flow’s taken me here.” The frontman also discusses how he differentiates possible System material from possible Scars material. “It’s a little tough. Because there are some things that would work for either band. But right now System is just playing live. To get that band back together in the studio means getting four different guys back together, and I don’t know when that will happen. But, let’s just say I do have some ‘rainy day’ songs just in case.” Scars on Broadway are currently in the midst of a North American tour with  Deftones .
