Hard Rock / Metal Performance Grammy Award – Readers Poll

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com (4) / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will take place this Sunday (Feb. 10) in Los Angeles and we’ll soon have a new winner in the Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance category. It’s safe to say that over the years there have been a few head-scratchers when the nominees were announced, but since combining the two categories in 2012, the selection committee has done a pretty solid job in choosing the nominees. This year may just be the strongest group of competitors yet. So, before “music’s biggest night,” we ask you — the Loudwire readers — to tell us who you think should win the Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance category Sunday night. There are six nominees, beginning alphabetically with Anthrax and their single ‘I’m Alive.’ The band has three prior Best Metal Performance Grammy nominations — the last coming in 1995 for a live version of ‘Bring the Noise’ with special guests Public Enemy — but they’ve yet to win a Grammy. Next up is Halestorm , a first-time nominee that may have enjoyed the most commercial success of any of the nominated tracks with ‘Love Bites (So Do I).’ And there’s also Iron Maiden , the 2011 Best Metal Performance Grammy winner for ‘El Dorado’ and a three-time nominee. This year they’ve been nominated for the live version of ‘Blood Brothers.’ Lamb of God earned a nod for ‘Ghost Walking’ this year, which marks the fourth time they’ve been nominated. However, the band has yet to hear “And the Grammy goes to…” at any of the previous ceremonies. Marilyn Manson rebounded in 2012 and his ‘No Reflection’ singer earned a Grammy nomination, marking his third ever nod with no wins as of yet. And finally, there’s Megadeth , who might as well be the Susan Lucci of the Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance category. They earned their eleventh nod for the song ‘Whose Life (Is It Anyways?),’ but still have yet to win their first Grammy. So there you have it — six great Grammy nominees for Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance. While you may have an inkling which one will win, we’re asking you to vote for which of these six tracks should win the Grammy in our poll below: Sorry, you need to have javascript running to see this poll. Rush, Heart + Public Enemy Lead 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Class

Mike Lawrie / Mark Davis / Stephen Lovekin, Getty Images The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2013 inductees, and leading the charge are Rush , Heart and Public Enemy. There have been many fans on the hard rock and classic rock side who have been clamoring for Rush to get their due, and next year they will be among the class of new inductees. “It’s a terrific honor and we’ll show up smiling,” said vocalist-bassist Geddy Lee to Rolling Stone . “It made my mom happy, so that’s worth it.” Lee was well aware of the fan support to get them into the Rock Hall, adding, “It was a cause they championed. I’m very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure.” Heart , like Rush, had been passed over on their first try, but sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson  & co. will enter the Rock Hall in 2013. Singer Ann Wilson said, “Some people have an idea of what the shape of rock and roll is supposed to look like. We’re not really it. Personally, that’s why I think it’s taken awhile … We’re always traveling and out there doing it. It can start to feel like you’re a tree falling in the forest, but nobody notices. So this kind of acknowledgement is really sweet.” On the rap side, Public Enemy became the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted, following Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys . The group crossed boundaries with their collaboration with  Anthrax  on the rap-meets-metal single ‘Bring the Noise.’ This year’s other inductees include singer-songwriter-composer Randy Newman, disco queen Donna Summer and blues great Albert King. Also joining the Rock Hall are Quincy Jones and Lou Adler, both of whom will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers. The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Apr. 18 at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater and will air on HBO May 18. Meanwhile, finalists like Deep Purple, N.W.A. and Joan Jett didn’t make the cut for the 2013 class. Avenged Sevenfold Members Guest on Machine Gun Kelly Track

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Rap/metal collaborations have been common since  Anthrax and Public Enemy teamed up for ‘Bring the Noise.’ Now, Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates have lent their talents to a new song by hip-hop artist Machine Gun Kelly. ‘Save Me’ (listen below) is the opening song on Kelly’s debut album ‘Lace Up,’ which was released today.  He talked about the track recently on MTV’s RapFix Live. “I actually got one of the greatest metal bands to be featured on it, Avenged Sevenfold. It’s definitely an eargasm if you’re into cross genre.” In addition to A7X, ‘Lace Up’ has guest spots from hip-hop luminaries such as Lil Jon, Waka Flocka Flame, Lil Jon, DMX, Young Jeezy, Twista, Tech N9ne, Dubo and Bun B. Speaking of Avenged Sevenfold collaborations, Shadows also shared vocals with Chris Jericho the song ‘Sandpaper’ off Fozzy’s recent album ‘Sin & Bones.’ He recently joined Fozzy   onstage in Los Angeles to perform to perform the song. As fans anxiously await a full album of new material, Avenged Sevenfold have released the single ‘ Carry On ,’ which is from the ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ video game that’s set for a Nov. 13 release. That song has entered the Loudwire Cage Match Hall of Fame after defeating tunes by artists including  Five Finger Death Punch, Soundgarden and Marilyn Manson . Listen to Machine Gun Kelly feat. M.
