Hollywood Undead Bring Their ‘California’ Flavor to New York City

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Los Angeles-based outfit  Hollywood Undead kicked off the weekend by bringing their fusion of hip-hop and rock to a sold out crowd at New York City’s Gramercy Theater on Friday (Jan.18). The band played without an opening act as they took the stage to their breakout hit, ‘Undead,’ which got their fans bouncing and singing. Their hour-and-a-half long set consisted of 18 tracks, including cuts from their latest record ‘ Notes From the Underground ’ such as ‘Another Way Out’ and ‘Dead Bite.’ One of the cooler parts of the evening was the dueling drum solos between touring drummer Daren Pfeifer and percussionist Da Kurlzz. Surprisingly the band did not perform their past single ‘Levitate,’ but they did hype up the crowd with fan favorites like ‘My Town,’ ‘California,’ ‘Paradise Lost’ and ‘Hear Me Now.’ When the band teased the crowd by walking off stage after ‘Hear Me Now,’ the “One more song” chants turned into “Two More Songs” chants and Hollywood Undead gave fans just that. They performed an encore consisting of ‘Everywhere I Go’ and their lead single, ‘ We Are ,’ from their new record. Anthrax Unleash Thrash Cover of Rush’s ‘Anthem’

Megaforce Anthrax have just unleashed the first track from their upcoming EP, ‘Anthems.’ The thrash legends have compiled six cover songs along with two versions of the band’s ‘Worship Music’ track ‘Crawl,’ but this cover of Rush ‘s ‘Anthem’ is perfectly fitting as the first to be released by the group, as it is the EP’s namesake. Along with Anthrax’s new version of ‘Anthem,’ the soon-to-be-released EP will include covers of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Jailbreak,’ AC/DC’s ‘TNT,’ Cheap Trick’s ‘Big Eyes,’ Boston’s ‘Smokin” and Journey’s ‘Keep on Runnin’.’ The upcoming 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees of Rush are one of Anthrax’s biggest influences, as drummer Charlie Benante tells Rolling Stone . “When I was first learning to play drums, I would strap on my headphones, play along with [Rush’s live album All the World’s a Stage] and be transformed,” Benante describes. “I remember talking with Cliff [Burton] and Kirk [Hammett of Metallica] back when we first met, and we all agreed how much of an influence Rush was on all of us. I don’t [know] if you would hear anything that sounds like Rush in Anthrax’s music, but the passion, the drive, the musicianship and the appreciation is all there.” Both Anthrax and Rush fans have something unique to hear with this ‘Anthem’ cover, as Anthrax throw their trademark thrash spin on the prog classic. Funeral for a Friend, ‘The Distance’ Lyric Video – Exclusive Premiere

The End Records Funeral for a Friend are ramping up to the release of their sixth studio album, ‘ Conduit ,’ and Loudwire is proud to bring you the exclusive premiere of their new lyric video for the single, ‘The Distance.’ The ‘Conduit’ album finds the band working with producer Romesh Dodangoda and is their first official release with new drummer Pat Lundy. Singer Matthew Davies-Kreye says of the album’s title, “Five people on a stage, a conduit for the message and the music, delivering that to people who want to listen to it, be a part of whatever it is that we’re doing and being involved. It’s purely about delivering the message.” The vocalist says that he enjoys seeing how their music can affect people and how the songs transcend the band and become something more to a lot of people. He adds, “It sounds lofty I know, but that’s how it feels to us when we meet the folks who dig our band and who treat these songs with so much love and respect. It blows our minds constantly.” Will ‘The Distance’ soon be among the songs receiving that respect from fans? The track itself fits right in with the album’s theme. It’s a driving rocker that speaks to making a connection. As for the clip, the words for the song appear over a backdrop of muted colors. Meanwhile, at the top of the screen, a wave-like file is monitoring the intensity of the music. Funeral for a Friend’s ‘Conduit’ album arrives Feb. 5 and can currently be pre-ordered here . Bullet for My Valentine Unveil ‘Riot’ Video

YouTube Bullet for My Valentine ‘s audience has grown considerably over the recent years and their latest video, ‘ Riot ,’ reflects that evolution on a somewhat smaller scale. The band recently shot the clip in Brooklyn, N.Y., with director P.R. Brown and the video finds singer Matt Tuck as a bit of a hard rock pied piper as he roams the tough city streets. In the video, Tuck belts the track’s anti-establishment lyrics as he passes graffiti covered walls and multiple youths seem to heed his call, popping up as he walks by. As the song suggests, it’s not long before the sirens and the law are hot on the tail of Tuck and his growing following. But before you think that Tuck is rounding up the troops for some Michael Jackson ‘ Beat It ‘-like showdown, he heads down a dark alleyway and enters an abandoned warehouse lit only with swinging light bulbs as he and his bandmates rock the ‘Riot’ song for their newfound fans. ‘Riot’ can be heard on Bullet for My Valentine’s upcoming album, ‘ Temper Temper ‘ (due Feb. 12). Oblivion, ‘Reclamation’ (End of World Version) – Exclusive Video Premiere

All Shall Perish guitarist Ben Orum announced his sudden departure from the band on Dec. 12. Citing his family life and desire to be an attentive father, Orum felt the amount of touring with All Shall Perish would affect his personal life too greatly. However, Orum’s passion for music remains in tact, as he now handles bass duties for death metal band Oblivion, who are unveiling a music video for the song ‘Reclamation’ exclusively here on Loudwire. Deemed the ‘End of the World Version,’ Oblivion’s new video for ‘Reclamation’ delivers an apocalyptic theme just in time for fans to experience before the world actually ends later today. Oblivion definitely didn’t phone it in when it comes to their ‘Reclamation’ video, as proven by some captivating visuals crumbling city centers and full-on nuclear disasters. “This is our second video from our upcoming debut album, ‘Called to Rise,’” vocalist Nick Vasallo tells us. “This is also the first video to feature our two new members: Ben Orum (ex-All Shall Perish) and Victor Dods (from Hacksaw to the Throat, R.I.P.). The director, Brandon Hunt, made a special ‘End of the World’ version for all our fans just for today. Enjoy.” Although Orum has moved from guitar to bass after leaving All Shall Perish, his technical abilities are still acutely spotlit within ‘Reclamation,’ as are the talents of his fellow Oblivion band mates. Check out the debut of Oblivion’s music video for ‘Reclamation’ in the player below, and pre-order the band’s debut album, ‘Called to Rise’ (packaged with a t-shirt for only $10 total) by clicking here .
