New Music Releases – December 2012

Reprise New music releases are usually sparse as the calendar year comes to an end. Despite this, there are still some albums, box sets and other releases to pick up this December. Perhaps the most anticipated album the year’s final month will come Dec. 11 when  Green Day  complete their trilogy with the release of ‘¡Tré!’ The first two albums of the band’s project, ‘¡Uno!’ and ‘¡Dos!’ were met with critical acclaim, and there’s no reason to expect a different reaction to ‘¡Tré!’ Metallica will be releasing their ‘Quebec Magnetic’ DVD/Blu-ray in December. ‘Quebec Magnetic,’ a double DVD and single Blu-ray disc, was recorded during a two-night stint in Quebec City, Canada, in the fall of 2009 during the ‘World Magnetic Tour.’ Bands such as Chevelle , Hinder , KISS , Sully Erna and the Smashing Pumpkins will also be unleashing material. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Jams With Death Angel at ‘Too Much Horror Business’ Book Launch

Kevin Winter, Getty Images / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Metallica ‘s Kirk Hammett is making the rounds showing off his ‘Too Much Horror Business – The Kirk Hammett Collection’ book of horror memorabilia, but during a stop in San Francisco to promote his page-turner, he worked in some music for those in attendance as well. Hammett welcomed Death Angel as guest performers at the event and joined them for a set. The show took place at San Francisco’s Public Works Thursday night (Nov. 1), with Hammett hopping onstage to jam. The set included a performance of the Metallica classic ‘Trapped Under Ice.’ As for the new ‘Too Much Horror Business’ book, Hammett made sure to not only include the items he owns, but also a little conversational background on how the items came to be in possession. Speaking about the interview portion of the book, the guitarist explained , “It was important for me to be able to interject some of my own personality into the book, to bring it to a different place. I didn’t want it to be a stock coffee table art book, I didn’t want it to be a reference book, I didn’t want it to look like an auction catalog, which a lot of art books end up looking like, at least to me. It was important to me to interject some of my own personality and some of my own humor and my own opinion on this stuff. How and why I’m into all this stuff. It was a way for me to make it more my book than just another coffee table book.” He added that while it’s hard to narrow down his favorite horror films to just a few, he rates the original ‘Mummy,’ the ’70s low-budget ‘Dracula Vs. Frankenstein,’ and the 1935 film ‘Mad Love’ among the best. As for Death Angel, they too have something to promote as their ‘ A Thrashumentary ‘ DVD is expected to arrive in early 2013. Dethklok’s ‘Dethalbum III’ Lands in Top 10 of Billboard 200 Chart

Cartoon Network Dethklok , the stars of the animated series ‘Metalocalypse’, find their latest release ‘Dethalbum III’ debuting at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart with roughly 20,000 units sold. It also hit the No. 1 slot on the Hard Music Albums chart. This was Dethklok’s highest chart debut to-date, and the band’s real life voice and creator Brendon Small is grateful. “Thanks to the fans for actually buying music in a world where they don’t have to.” Loudwire’s review of ‘Dethalbum III’ says it “is able to take a super serious (and often gore-slathered) genre like death metal and make it ‘deth metal.’ That is, it fuses skilled playing with a sense of humor, which is often not the case in the genre’s offerings.” Dethklok will be kicking off a North American headline tour with Machine Head , All That Remains and the Black Dahlia Murder on Tuesday, Oct. 30. When discussing the upcoming tour, Small said, “Dethklok are excited to be a part of the best tour of 2012. We spared no expense on production for the tour. We are unleashing tons of new animation, new comedy, and new sketches and are very excited to play many new songs and can’t wait for new people to see our show. I’ll be honest, I don’t know when we will be able to pull off anything this massive again, so don’t miss it.” To celebrate the album and the impending Dethklok tour kickoff, Loudwire, the band and Gibson Guitars are teaming up to give away an Epiphone “1958” Korina Explorer. Enter the contest below. Season 4 of ‘Metalocalypse’ will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray Oct. 30 as the tour launches. All 12 episodes from the show’s fourth season are included along with more than two hours of bonus material, highlighted by the 90 minute feature film ‘Nathan Reads Shakespeare 4: Comedy of Errors.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/dethklok-epiphone-guitar-giveaway/” title=”Enter the Dethklok Epiphone Guitar Giveaway” align=”center”]
