Metalheads can get their hands on the two latest items available in Metallica’s official online store : jigsaw puzzles. That’s right, after you crank up your favorite ‘Tallica record, clear the table and get ready to put a puzzle together. As of right now, fans have two options when deciding which puzzle to tackle: ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘…And Justice for All.’ If you’re an amateur at this sort of thing, you might want to start out with the latter as it includes 200 pieces, whereas the former boasts 500 pieces. The completed task for each puzzle will look like the cover of the respective albums. The ‘Master’ puzzle will run you $16.99 while ‘Justice’ is a bit cheaper at $14.99. The puzzles are just the latest in new merchandise the band is making available to fans. These items are released on the heels of Metallica’s collaboration with Vans to produce a special pair of ‘Kill ‘Em All’ shoes , and don’t forget about getting your hands on James Hetfield’s signature sunglasses , too. October 11th, 2012 Metalkult Donald Kravitz, Getty Images When we arrived at Bader Field the day before Metallica ‘s Orion Music + More festival, we were greeted with the band rocking out to one of our favorite tunes, ‘Creeping Death.’ It turned out that they were performing their usual pre-show soundcheck, working out all the kinks before they kicked off their first ever two-day fest. For those who weren’t lucky enough to be in Atlantic City to experience Orion, the band released both nights’ performances as downloads via LiveMetallica.com . While those cost money to download, Metallica has now released that Friday soundcheck as a free download . The soundcheck includes the aforementioned ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Hell and Back’ from the ‘Beyond Magnetic’ EP and the instrumental ‘The Call of Ktulu.’ With this being a soundcheck, the band was not playing as serious as they would during an actual live performance. This is obvious when frontman James Hetfield, while jamming on ‘Creeping Death,’ decides to skip out on singing the first verse. This looseness provides a unique listening experience for ‘Tallica fans, making this a download you won’t want to miss. Orion Music + More was held at Bader Field in Atlantic City on June 23 and 24, 2012. October 3rd, 2012 Metalkult Vans Metal legends Metallica are teaming up with the iconic skate shoe company Vans for a new line of sneakers that celebrate the band’s storied career. “I’ve been wearing Vans on stage my whole freakin’ career (and way before that!),” said Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo. “Whether I’m walking the streets of Venice or San Francisco, Vans provides the funk in my stride!” The collaboration kicks off with a limited edition Vans x Metallica 20th Anniversary Half Cab Pro . It’s part of of the year long celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the Half Cab, the most popular skate shoe of all time. The heavy-duty canvas and suede “black to the floor” Metallica edition features classic band lyrics embossed in the side, exclusive Vans x Metallica x Steve Caballero labeling and a unique clear rubber sole with ‘Kill ‘Em All’ album artwork showing through. “To have Metallica, my all-time favorite metal band, collaborating with me on this 20th anniversary Half Cab shoe is an honor and a dream come true,” said Caballero. “I’m very stoked that Vans is working with such a legendary band and the Half Cab is just the beginning.” In early 2013, the ‘Passion Projects’ will launch. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo each designed shoes for the collection. They created Vans shoes reflecting their own style, drawing from music, art and action sports. Members of the band’s fan club (Met Club) will have the first opportunity to buy the Vans x Metallica Passion Project shoes in January. They’ll go on sale to the general public in February. September 28th, 2012 Metalkult Megaforce For a long time, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has sported one of metal’s most celebrated beards. Once predominantly black, these days Ian has taken a more natural approach to the beard, allowing some gray into the mix. Ian’s beard deserves a prominent spot in some sort of Rock and Roll Facial Hair Hall of Fame next to James Hetfield’s goat-like chin-plant and Kerry King’s whimsical bristles. Few possess the pure manliness to grow such a beard. The dedication involved is staggering in itself, no doubt taking many months or even years to cultivate. But what if everyone was able to grow a beard like Scott Ian? Obviously we would all grow one, but what would it look like on some of the world’s most recognizable faces? A beard of this stature deserves the upmost reverence, so we’ve decided to attach Ian’s breathtaking chin-locks to various lucky recipients. So, what if everyone had Scott Ian’s beard? December 5th, 2001 Metalkult Mary Ouellette, shewillshootyou.com Metallica may not be releasing new music until 2014 , but that doesn’t mean you won’t still hear them next year. In fact, the band has just announced a headlining appearance at the 2013 Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Just to make sure their fans have enough advance notice, the group is giving their faithful followers a full 11-month head start on planning for the event. This will be Metallica’s sixth time playing the festival, and they’re set to perform on Sept. 19. Pre-sale tickets will be available Oct. 23 for those who have Rock in Rio membership cards, which are exclusively for Brazilian residents. Further information can be found here . For those outside of Brazil, there will be an international ticket sale beginning in April 2013. Metallica will have further details on that sale posted on their website once the info becomes available. In addition to Metallica, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Iron Maiden have been named as headliners for next year’s event. At present, the only other shows on Metallica’s schedule beside Rock in Rio is their appearances at Australia’s Soundwave Festival early next year and at New Orleans’ Voodoo Music Festival on Oct. 27 of this year.
