The Offspring, 3 Doors Down + Stone Sour Headline Inaugural Fort Rock Festival

Kevin Winter / Michael Loccisano / Adam Bettcher, Getty Images Hard rock fans can add another great festival to their must-see list this spring when Fort Myers, Fla. hosts the inaugural Fort Rock Festival. The lineup for this year’s event features such top acts as the  Offspring , 3 Doors Down and Stone Sour leading the way. In addition, organizers have revealed that Papa Roach , Volbeat , In This Moment , Escape the Fate , Device , Pop Evil , Otherwise , Mindset Evolution and more will take part in the event, which takes place at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers April 14. Additional acts will join the festival as well and the bands will be divided up into the Main Stage and the Jagermeister Second Stage. Fort Rock comes from Danny Wimmer Presents and AEG Live, part of the team that has produced the Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion and Welcome to Rockville festivals. Tickets for the Fort Rock Festival go on sale Saturday, Feb. 23 at 6AM ET at the event’s website . There will also be special VIP and hotel packages available as well. Bryan Carlstrom, Engineer for Alice in Chains and The Offspring, Dies at 51

Bryan Carlstrom: Official Facebook Acclaimed sound engineer Bryan Carlstrom ( Alice in Chains , the Offspring ) has tragically passed away at the age of 51. Carlstrom was one of the most important engineers/producers in the world of hard rock, modern punk and metal, having contributed to well over 100 albums, including engineering the Alice in Chains masterpiece ‘Dirt’ and the Offspring favorites ‘Ixnay on the Hombre’ and ‘Americana.’ Bryan Carlstrom left behind an incredible legacy in production, engineering, mixing and mastering. Along with Alice in Chains and the Offspring, Carlstrom worked with significant acts such as Anthrax , Rob Zombie , Social Distortion , Public Image Ltd. and Queen. As of this posting, the cause of Carlstrom’s death has not been made public, but the Offspring’s Dexter Holland paid tribute to the life of the ‘Ixnay on the Hombre’ and ‘Americana’ engineer via the band’s Facebook page: “R.I.P. Bryan Carlstrom … Godspeed … As the engineer on ‘Ixnay’ and ‘Americana,’ he brought out the best in us.” Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian also posted a short tribute on his Twitter account : “RIP Bryan Carlstrom. Great guy, great engineer, we’re a better band for knowing you.” Along with these musicians, a multitude of fans flocked to Bryan Carlstrom’s personal Facebook page to post memorial after memorial for the brilliant studio mastermind. The Offspring and Dead Sara’s Emily Armstrong Team Up for Performance of ‘Gone Away’

YouTube In late 2012, the  Offspring toured with Dead Sara . During the Offpsring’s set, Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara would join the band for a stripped down version of ‘Gone Away.’ A video of an October performance of the song at a show at the Hollywood Palladium, as well as footage of the pair recording a studio version of the song, has been released (watch below). “When we started building our own set list, I realized the stripped-down version of ‘Gone Away,’ which we’ve been doing for a few years, would fit Emily’s voice really well,” Offspring singer Dexter Holland tells Rolling Stone . “It turned out to be a special moment in the show each night.” ‘Gone Away,’ off the album ‘Ixnay on the Hombre,’ recently made our list of the  10 Best Offspring Songs . A new version was re-recorded by the band and Armstrong with help from producer Bob Rock. The Offspring released their ninth album ‘ Days Go By ‘ last June. They are set to play the 2013 Soundwave Festival in Australia. They will play Feb. 23 in Brisbane, with shows to follow in Sydney (Feb. 24), Melbourne (March 1), Adelaide (March 2), and Perth (March 4). They will also play a few dates in Australia after the festival wraps up. Dead Sara will continue opening for high profile acts in 2013. They are slated to open for Muse on their North American tour that kicks off Feb. 22. Armstrong is excited about the trek . “We never thought in a million years it would happen like this.
