Ozzy Osbourne Rings in New Year With Granddaughter Pearl

Jack Osbourne: Official Instagram Get ready to say, “Awwwww.” Above is a pic of legendary Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne holding his newest granddaughter Pearl as the two celebrate the New Year together. Ozzy became a grandfather for the fifth time last year, when son Jack and now-wife Lisa Stelly welcomed the baby girl into the world. Jack Osbourne posted this picture of Ozzy and Pearl on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages last night (Jan. 1). This is the second picture of Ozzy and Pearl together that we’ve seen, as an earlier pic of the duo on the Sabbath singer’s private jet was revealed in November (see below). Hello! magazine was the first publication to introduce Pearl to the public shortly after she was born on April 24, 2012. “People say when you have a kid, it’s like instant love, but unless you’ve experienced it, it’s impossible to comprehend,” Jack Osbourne told Hello! “The moment I saw her, I felt more love than I’d ever felt for anything. It was the weirdest, most overwhelming thing.” Not only are we jealous of Pearl for having the coolest grandpa ever, but it’s likely that the child has already heard some of the new Sabbath album. Unfortunately for us, Pearl probably can’t be convinced to mail us a digital copy … yet. Black Sabbath Legend Tony Iommi Joins the National Guitar Museum Board of Advisors

Robert Cianflone, Getty Images Black Sabbath guitarist and master of the riff Tony Iommi has been welcomed into the National Guitar Museum Board of Advisors. Iommi strives to help preserve the legacy of the guitar through the traveling institution, which will showcase its unique exhibit in six different cities between now and September 2015. The National Guitar Museum ‘s traveling instillation, ‘Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked the World,’ launched its first show in 2011, proclaiming the guitar as “The Most Popular Instrument. Ever.” As metal music’s most important six-string strummer, Tony Iommi is a natural fit to bring additional credibility to the museum and exhibit. “I welcome the opportunity to be part of the National Guitar Museum’s goal to highlight the history of the guitar — the instrument that has been part of my life since I was a teenager,” states Iommi. “There is so much more to the guitar than six strings and a slab of wood. Everything about it is fascinating, from how it is crafted to the legion of people who have played it.” Adds HP Newquist, executive director of the NGM, ”Tony is one of the most important rock guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. His guitar playing has defined the sound of heavy metal for more than four decades, and he has influenced countless thousands — if not millions — of players. Tony’s also had a huge affect on the instrument itself, from establishing the Gibson SG as an iconic guitar on to his own innovations in pushing the boundaries of string and pickup technology.” Iommi has joined a legendary group of guitarists already on the museum’s Board of Advisors, including Steve Vai, Ritchie Blackmore ( Deep Purple , Rainbow), Johnny Winter, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Howe (Yes), Liona Boyd, Pat Kirtley and Pete Huttlinger. Once the National Guitar Museum completes its string of instillations, one U.S. city will be named the permanent home of the Museum. Meanwhile, Tony Iommi is currently competing for Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. Place your vote here . Tom Morello Unsure If Rage Against the Machine Will Ever Perform Again

Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images With the recent release of ‘Rage Against the Machine – XX,’ the 20th anniversary edition of Rage Against the Machine ‘s self-titled debut disc, fans had plenty of reason to celebrate in hopes that it marked only the beginning of fresh new things to come from the band. However, guitarist Tom Morello has squashed that dream for now, even going so far to say that the band may never play together again at all. Say it isn’t so, Tom! In a new interview with Rolling Stone , the Rage guitarist gave his honest assessment on the current status of the band and what the future holds. “Whether or not we ever play music again in any capacity is unknown,” Morello said. “I’m grateful for the music we played together, and thank goodness the cameras were rolling.” Morello made it very clear that the resilience to record new music and tour is not coming from him directly. “If it were up to me, I would’ve made two records a year,” Morello confided. “As it is, we have just three records of original material over 20 years.” He also talked about what he hoped the anniversary release might spawn, explaining, “It was my great hope that we’d celebrate the 20th anniversary with a five-continent world tour.” Without a tour in sight, Morello is still grateful about everything the box set stands for and hopes that in addition to making longtime fans happy that it will turn on some new fans as well. “The reason why we’re doing this is very clear and simple: it’s for our fans, which I believe are the single most dedicated, wild in concert, and patient fans maybe in the history of rock music,” said Morello.“It was past due that we really did something that honored their commitment to us over the course of 20 years.” While this might not breed a lot of hope for a future Rage Against the Machine tour, the idea is always on the table. “Once a year, the band meets and very seriously discusses and turns down awesome offers to tour the world,” admitted Morello. “That’s part of the program.” Morello doesn’t seem to harbor any resentment regarding the frustrating situation though, he considers his Rage bandmates family, “I love them,” he said. “I consider them brothers and brothers-in-arms.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/best-rage-against-the-machine-songs/” title=”10 Best Rage Against the Machine Songs” align=”center”]

Metallica Take Full Ownership of Master Recordings, Launch Own ‘Blackened’ Label

Blackened Recordings Metallica have just revealed the beginning of a new era in their history. Not only has the band launched their own record label, Blackened Recordings, but as of today, all of Metallica’s master recordings have reverted back to the band, giving them full ownership of their entire catalog. All the way back in 1994, Metallica made a deal with Warner Music Group that on Nov. 30, 2012, the band would exclusively own all of their recordings, including all their music videos and long form videos. According to statements from various band members, there is no ill will against Warner, the move is simply to possess full creative control of what happens with the music of Metallica from here forth. “We would like to thank everyone at the Warner Music Group for 28 years of a fantastic relationship, particularly since 1994 where we truly felt we had partners in every aspect of our business in North America,” says James Hetfield . Blackened Recordings will now be the home of everything Metallica, and will handle all marketing and promotion duties. The label is set to personally license their releases to Universal Music Group internationally. “It’s always been about control for us as a band,” says drummer Lars Ulrich .  “Forming Blackened Recordings is the ultimate in independence, giving us 100% control and putting us in the driver’s seat of our own creative destiny.” Blackened Recordings will put out it’s inaugural release, the ‘ Quebec Magnetic ‘ DVD, on Dec. 10, which showcases footage from two Quebec City live performances recorded in 2009. Quiznos Goes Power Metal in Commercial for Free Toasted Cookies

Quiznos What planet are we living on? Not only has metal music successfully taken over the underground music world, but the world of TV commercials, as well. In one of creative culture’s strangest dichotomies, metal has inspired memorable commercials for Google, ESPN Sportscenter, FedEx, Norton Antivirus, Kentucky Fried Chicken and many, many more. The newest heavy metal commercial, however, features a power metal parody band flying on a magic cookie for sandwich chain Quiznos. Once again, we need to give credit where credit is due, and this commercial is hilarious. The creators of all these different metal-inspired ads have been hitting home runs, so it’s no wonder why the theme has been popping up all over television. In this new Quiznos commercial, the first band name that comes to mind is DragonForce . The British princes of power metal seem to have been the basis for the ad, as a falsetto-singing frontman, who looks an awful lot like DragonForce guitarist Herman Li, provides vocals for the cookie-riding act. In another strange twist, the lead guitarist of the fictional band is sort of reminiscent of  System of a Down / Scars on Broadway  singer-guitarist  Daron Malakian . The aforementioned in-flight pastry reaches its destination (a man’s mouth) with an explosive impact, leaving the befuddled gentleman’s palate vehemently satisfied through a melty chocolate cookie crunch. Although this commercial is a hilarious success, the title of greatest metal-inspired commercial ever remains with Suffocation and their History Channel ‘ Dark Ages ‘ ad. Iron Maiden to Headline Graspop Metal Meeting 2013 in Belgium

Karl Walter, Getty Images Winter may be upon us, but European festival organizers are already thinking ahead to summer and with it, the region’s booming concert season. After a five-year hiatus, Iron Maiden will headline the Graspop Metal Meeting 2013, which will take place in Dessel Belgium from June 28 through June 30. Maiden bassist Steven Harris commented on the gig and offered a little insight as to what fans can expect at the show, saying , “We know how popular the history of Maiden tours are with fans of all ages and we will be bringing with us the full production we had on tour in North America earlier this year. Thanks to modern technology, we’ve been able to update and improve on the original 1988 production for Maiden England. We will be bringing with us a huge new light show, stage set, various incarnations of Eddie, plenty of pyro and all kinds of other exciting stuff for the fans.” Judging from Harris’ comments, Maiden will be pulling out all the stops and are planning a massively entertaining show for fans at Graspop Metal Meeting. Harris offered even more detail about the band’s planned set list, saying, “We’ve also had a huge amount of fun with the set list as we got to play songs we’ve not played in a very long time like ‘Seventh Son,’ ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘Afraid to Shoot Strangers,’ as well as fan favorites like ‘The Trooper,” ‘Aces High,’ ‘The Clairvoyant,’ ‘The Number of the Beast,’ ‘Wasted Years’ and ‘Run to the Hills.’” He continued, “The opening leg of the tour was so enjoyable for the whole band, we’re really looking forward to taking this whole show to our fans around Europe and we’re especially happy to be coming back to headline Graspop, as it is a real metal festival and a place we always really love to play.” All those factors combined mean it’ll be a Maiden performance to remember.
